| I'm Going To New Zealand!
I got into a study abroad program where you do geology for 6 straight
months (spring semester) in fucking Middle Earth. Holy shit, I'm excited
about this. January can't come soon enough. | 1 | | Process of Guilt Faemin
Really solid post-metal with a touch of death/doom. The title track is fantastic. | 2 | | Sufjan Stevens Illinois
I can't believe I hadn't heard this already. Casimir Pulaski Day is legitimately the
saddest song I have ever heard. | 3 | | Irreversible Surface
Post-metal with a touch of stoner sludge. I wasn't a huge fan of their past efforts,
but they've stepped up the production and fixed a lot of the songwriting issues
present on Ashes. | 4 | | Septicflesh Titan
I have no idea what all the whining is about. This album is just as solid as anything
else I've heard from these guys. The vocal performance here is his best yet by far. | 5 | | Manchester Orchestra Hope
I actually liked Cope, but this is just as good, if not better. Some tracks, I think,
work better with the heavier style, but some absolutely soar with this more
stripped-down approach. | 6 | | Thou / The Body Released from Love
Thou's style of sludge definitely takes precedence over The Body's here, which I'm
honestly okay with: while I love The Body, Thou are a lot more consistently
awesome. For those of y'all who don't know, they'll actually be releasing a second
collaborative effort later this year, titled 'You, Whom I Have Always Hated.' If
there's a title more fitting for a collaboration between these two bands, I can't
think of it. | 7 | | The Body I Shall Die Here
This collaboration between The Body and dark ambient act The Haxan Cloak is,
imo, one of the most overlooked releases of the year. This is some straight fucked
up stuff. On a slightly related note, the 2011 collaboration between The Body and
Braveyoung (titled 'Nothing Passes') is an easy 4.5/5 and only has four fucking
votes. Get both. | 8 | | Hexis Abalam
This, an unholy mix of black metal, sludge, and crust punk, is the single heaviest,
most evil thing to be released this year. Get on it. | 9 | | Saor Aura
Black/folk metal. Just reminding y'all that this is still the best thing that's been
released so far this year. However, Jakob's new album drops in a month or so, so I
expect this to drop to second. | 10 | | Hans Zimmer The Last Samurai
Nothing much to say here besides that this movie fucking rules, and the score is
even better. Red Warrior... Hnnnggggg. | |

09.29.14 | After their collabs with Thou, The Haxan Cloak, and Braveyoung, I'm thoroughly convinced that The Body are at their best when collaborating with other artists.
On another note, I might well get a volcanology- and/or igneous petrology-related thesis out of this New Zealand deal. Fuck yeah. Grad school and a life of looking at thin sections, here I come. | Friday13th
09.29.14 | watch out for nazgul | ZombicidalMan

09.30.14 | "Thanks for the headsup, I will inform customs to turn you away ;) Where are you studying?"
Geology: specifically, the program offers a volcanology track that I'm doing. Seems like as good a place as any to study that kind of thing, and by "as good as any" what I really mean is "I can't imagine any places that are a lot better." | Ignimbrite

10.01.14 | Surprised I didn't think of Christchurch as soon as you said Geology. Try and avoid earthquakes | osmark86
10.01.14 | coincidentally I have a friend who studies Geology and spent 6 months in NZ as well. seems like Middle Earth

10.01.14 | I have a geology exam on Igneous, Sedimentary, and Metamorphic processes tomorrow, and a lab practical on mineral and rock identification on Tuesday.
So much stuff to memorize. | Ignimbrite
10.02.14 | I actually get a weird, kinda perverse pleasure from memorizing mineral formulas and IDs and looking at thin
sections... Pretty sure I'm gonna end up doing something igpet-related, haha.
What class are you taking? | Deviant.
10.02.14 | "burger fuel is gud but have you had Wisconsin Phlegm shit is off the chain"

Eh, but BF has THOSE TENDERS. And yeah, I live in Hataitai. Seems kind of funny saying that on here haha | zakalwe
10.02.14 | Knock about for 6mnths looking at pebbles, talking to others about pebbles, shagging sheep as a result of nobody having the slightest interest in pebbles.
Enjoy.
