I'm Going To New Zealand!

I got into a study abroad program where you do geology for 6 straight months (spring semester) in fucking Middle Earth. Holy shit, I'm excited about this. January can't come soon enough.
1Process of Guilt
Faemin

Really solid post-metal with a touch of death/doom. The title track is fantastic.
2Sufjan Stevens
Illinois

I can't believe I hadn't heard this already. Casimir Pulaski Day is legitimately the
saddest song I have ever heard.
3Irreversible
Surface

Post-metal with a touch of stoner sludge. I wasn't a huge fan of their past efforts,
but they've stepped up the production and fixed a lot of the songwriting issues
present on Ashes.
4Septicflesh
Titan

I have no idea what all the whining is about. This album is just as solid as anything
else I've heard from these guys. The vocal performance here is his best yet by far.
5Manchester Orchestra
Hope

I actually liked Cope, but this is just as good, if not better. Some tracks, I think,
work better with the heavier style, but some absolutely soar with this more
stripped-down approach.
6Thou / The Body
Released from Love

Thou's style of sludge definitely takes precedence over The Body's here, which I'm
honestly okay with: while I love The Body, Thou are a lot more consistently
awesome. For those of y'all who don't know, they'll actually be releasing a second
collaborative effort later this year, titled 'You, Whom I Have Always Hated.' If
there's a title more fitting for a collaboration between these two bands, I can't
think of it.
7The Body
I Shall Die Here

This collaboration between The Body and dark ambient act The Haxan Cloak is,
imo, one of the most overlooked releases of the year. This is some straight fucked
up stuff. On a slightly related note, the 2011 collaboration between The Body and
Braveyoung (titled 'Nothing Passes') is an easy 4.5/5 and only has four fucking
votes. Get both.
8Hexis
Abalam

This, an unholy mix of black metal, sludge, and crust punk, is the single heaviest,
most evil thing to be released this year. Get on it.
9Saor
Aura

Black/folk metal. Just reminding y'all that this is still the best thing that's been
released so far this year. However, Jakob's new album drops in a month or so, so I
expect this to drop to second.
10Hans Zimmer
The Last Samurai

Nothing much to say here besides that this movie fucking rules, and the score is
even better. Red Warrior... Hnnnggggg.
