10.08.14 | Pretty good list!
|
GmemberKills
10.08.14 | 11, 8,6 and 1 rule so damn hard |
SharkTooth
10.08.14 | Edgar Winter Group-Frankenstein |
Friday13th
10.08.14 | [2] didn't even know Frankenstein was a big hit |
SharkTooth
10.08.14 | It was. Sadly they never made a song quite as good ever again(sigh) |
AtomicShane
10.08.14 | ya most of these still suck |
ArsMoriendi
10.08.14 | "Ms. Jackson" is pretty legendary.
Are you counting older ones? Because "Venus" by Shocking Blue is pretty cool. Also Stevie Wonder had at least 6 #1's that were great, and The Doors had 2. |
Tunaboy45
10.08.14 | You forgot Addicted To Vaginal Skin. |
ChoccyPhilly
10.08.14 | but Rolling in The Deep does suck... Set Fire to The Rain is where it's at |
KrazyKris
10.08.14 | @Choccy
I'd say they're pretty much on the same level quality-wise. Both really strong tracks. Rumour Has It > both though |
ChoccyPhilly
10.08.14 | RITD just never appealed to me. That chorus is just so cringeworthy and I've always thought Adele is at her more powerful when she's a bit more melancholic |
KrazyKris
10.08.14 | Yeah, but the intro is pretty cool I think. But sure, compared to Someone Like You it falls a little flat. Still definitely on the better side of 21, just so much filler on it.
Also, 13 & 11 rock, 2 is between lame and abominable imo |
ChoccyPhilly
10.08.14 | needs:
Usher - Yeah
Ne-Yo - So Sick
Kanye West - Stronger
Owl City - Fireflies
Boys II Men - End of The Road
R. Kelly - Bump n' Grind
Cyndi Lauper - Time After Time |
ChoccyPhilly
10.08.14 | Come to think of it, old school r&b pop was always pretty strong |
TalonsOfFire
10.08.14 | ^^Choccy I hope that Owl City - Fireflies was a typo... |
ChoccyPhilly
10.08.14 | I liked it when it first came out, but it's the weakest on that list. It's not amazing, but it is a solid pop song |
KrazyKris
10.08.14 | Just looked up the No. 1 from 1990 onwards. Would add:
MJ - Black Or White
Will Smith - Gettin Jiggy With It
Santana - Smooth
Maroon 5 - Makes Me Wonder (yes, I'm serious) |
KrazyKris
10.08.14 | Also, many no. 1 weren't really horrible, just mediocre. And you people had far too much hip-hop up there over the last 15 years |
SharkTooth
10.08.14 | Needs:
Stevie Wonder-You Haven't done nothin
Stones-Brown Sugar
Carl Douglas-Kung Fu Fighting |
SharkTooth
10.08.14 | Also:
Walter Murphy and the Big Apple Band-A Fifth of Beethoven
Edgar Winter Group-Frankenstein(no list of best #1 hits is complete without it) |
ChoccyPhilly
10.08.14 | True. It hasn't been very good recently tbh
I mean... Harlem Shake? |
theacademy
10.08.14 | haha rolling in the deep was simply horrid! |
BertMacklinFBI
10.08.14 | Most old Maroon 5 songs were really good for radio, and they used to be good in general before post Hands All Over. Just heard California Love on the radio this morning |
TalonsOfFire
10.08.14 | Choccy fireflies is laughably terrible and you know it, harlem shake is more of a trend than a real song |
SharkTooth
10.08.14 | List is lacking Stevie Wonder/Elton John |
scottpilgrim10
10.08.14 | 12-20 are all sweet. I don't really know any of the songs in the top 10 |
KrazyKris
10.08.14 | If we go back further it's definitely lacking Beatles, Dylan, Beach Boys, Stones, .... |
ChoccyPhilly
10.08.14 | Naaaah, there's nothing wrong with Fireflies, it was just overplayed so damn much |
ChoccyPhilly
10.08.14 | 80's pop was really good over here in the UK |
SharkTooth
10.08.14 | @ScottPilgrim10
Don't you be hatin' on Ms. Jackson |
SharkTooth
10.08.14 | "80's pop was really good over here in the UK"
Well duh you had all the cool New Wave bands |
BertMacklinFBI
10.08.14 | Why does Owl City get so much hate? Fireflies was a cool song. Not all of their stuff is good, but it was a solid single. It had pretty, colorful lyrics, a quirky beat, and nice vocals. |
AmericanFlagAsh
10.08.14 | Good list.
I don't dislike any one of these. |
KrazyKris
10.08.14 | @Choccy
Still jamming Sweet Dreams? |
ChoccyPhilly
10.08.14 | SWEET DREAMS ARE MADE OF THIS.
that creeped me out as a kid. It's more about stuff like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJOLwy7un3U
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oc-P8oDuS0Q
Classics, i tell ya |
KrazyKris
10.08.14 | Come On Eileen??? Really surprised by that, not that I hate it, just seems to be one of the most uncool songs to like.
And Sweet Dreams is still creepy, isn't it? Still cool though. |
ChoccyPhilly
10.08.14 | The vocals are a tad annoying but it's still fun enough to be more enjoyable than stuff these days. Madness are better needless to say |
scottpilgrim10
10.08.14 | wow I'm an idiot today.
11-20, 11 is probs the best song on the list |
KrazyKris
10.08.14 | Madness is one of those bands that didn't make it out of the UK though it seems, apart from Our House. Never heard Baggy Trousers before for example |
ChoccyPhilly
10.08.14 | A lot of UK bands never made it out of the UK at the time. Surely you've heard It Must Be Love? Arguably their most popular song. |
KrazyKris
10.08.14 | A lot of UK bands still don't really make it out of the UK. Seems like you're the kings of one-hit wonders. And I just listened to It Must Be Love. Can't really say, if I've heard it before. |
Shuyin
10.08.14 | kiss from a rose is really damn good tbh |
ArsMoriendi
10.08.14 | "Every Breath You Take" by the Police was a #1 single in the US. |
ChoccyPhilly
10.08.14 | @kris. back then and in the 90s i suppose it's true. hmm, i never really noticed that. I would have thought a lot of it would have crossed into europe at least |
KrazyKris
10.08.14 | Maybe, I was never the big radio guy. Though I guess most of it just didn't survive for more than a few years round here and doesn't get any airplay nowadays (especially not those videos!) |
ChoccyPhilly
10.08.14 | Surely you have a couple of radio stations that play some of the classic 80s and 90s hits? That's partially how i got to know the stuff |
Pangea
10.08.14 | Lorde - Royals
Justin Timberlake - Sexyback
Fun. - We Are Young
Goyte Somebody That I Used To Know |
KrazyKris
10.08.14 | Yeah, only never ever listened to them, especially not for the last decade. Actually the last time I listened to some radio program voluntarily was about six or seven years ago. I know pretty much all of the early 2000s crap that was played endlessly, but for example I don't remember ever hearing Fireflies. |
oltnabrick
10.08.14 | D4L - "Laffy Taffy" >>>> every song on this list |
wtferrothorn
11.04.14 | Cee-Lo Green- F**k You |
trackbytrackreviews
11.04.14 | As overplayed as it is Sweet Child o Mine |
ChoccyPhilly
11.04.14 | Crazy > Fuck You
Dunno if Crazy was no.1 over there though |
KrazyKris
11.04.14 | Nope, #2. Also, as good as it might be in general, that thing was even more overplayed than Beautiful Day, Boulevard Of Broken Dreams or Your Beautiful |
ChoccyPhilly
11.04.14 | Nothing is more overplayed than Beautiful
Your Beautiful?
Do you mean the Emili Sande & Labrinth song?
Or the James Blunt song, You're Beautiful? |
KrazyKris
11.04.14 | Of course the James Blunt song, really need to use more than two brain cells when writing here. |
ChoccyPhilly
11.04.14 | You're beautiful is great and had some quality lyrics too.
Damn, I feel like going on a pop-spree now |
KrazyKris
11.04.14 | You're Beautiful is endless whimpering, an embarrassing video and without any musical value. It would be the one-man version of Chasing Cars, if it weren't for the latter's pathos. |
ChoccyPhilly
11.05.14 | idk, it's like reading out of a man's diary. There's something oddly sincere about it and I like it |
KrazyKris
11.05.14 | Yeah, get that. Almost always on that side too. Damn Joshua Radin is one of my fav artists and it doesn't get much cheesier than him. Just could never stand this. And somehow - maybe because of experience - the sad and angry songs in that department often feel more honest and believable to me. |
ChoccyPhilly
11.05.14 | But there's the cliche kind of cheese and then this kind of cheese that turns heads, in my mind at least. It's not the mechanical, formulaic cheese commonly found in pop, it's a more personal kind, which i appreciate a lot more.
Never listened to Joshua Radin much. I'm more of a Jason Mraz kinda guy |
KrazyKris
11.05.14 | That's true and I can't really figure out, why I despise it somehow. Maybe it's the fact that he sounds like Damien Rice just without any pain in his message, kind of disturbing. All in all it's incredibly subjective in an already subjective field like music. Just like everyone got his own favorite and it is neither justified nor unjustified. It just is.
Never to big on Mraz, but listen to this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cXKIER2jVk
probably my fav positive love song |
SharkTooth
11.05.14 | Edgar Winter Group-Frankenstein
/thread tbh |
ChoccyPhilly
11.05.14 | I haven't listened to that kind of stuff in a long time; can't say i'm too keen on it. Anyway, jason mraz is awesome at times. This will sway your opinion:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wb46k2HHX_A |
KrazyKris
11.05.14 | Cool musically and his voice is quite good on this. Lyrically, well, that's another story. |
ChoccyPhilly
11.05.14 | Would you rather that or Jason Derulo tier lyrics? |
KrazyKris
11.05.14 | That is a good question...Can't answer it, cause I don't recall ever hearing anything from Derulo. For me that's one of those many guys from the last 5 or so years that are nothing more than a name. |
DustyTill
11.05.14 | Wrong, they all sucked. |
ChoccyPhilly
11.05.14 | lol, if only you knew.
He sings his name in many songs. it's like his signature thing
Anyway, if you liked Butterfly then I insist you check out jason Mraz a little more |
KrazyKris
11.05.14 | Probably gonna do that. 2014 is fully planned musically though, maybe I'll throw in an album early next year. |
bach
11.05.14 | shouts out aaliyah and tlc |
sublimefan1991
01.29.15 | Love me some 16 and 19. |
Sharkattack
03.08.20 | All of these were bad |
