12.29.14 | 1 was the shit when i was younger. 7 should be way higher and 6 is total shite so i'd put it at the bottom. haven't seen 2 or 4 but never read the books either |
Pangea
12.29.14 | Read the books. I find it hard to rank the books or movies |
Artuma
12.29.14 | the reason why i never read the deathly hallows is that i grew out of potter. don't really care for it anymore |
Keyblade
12.29.14 | Checked list just to see if 1 was 1 |
baldymort
12.29.14 | i agree with 1 and 2 but i would put 7 and 8 ahead of the rest. the first 3 films capture the feel of the books so damn well and richard harris as dumbledore was next level. |
AliW1993
12.29.14 | The top two are probably about right, but I'd probably have Chamber at #3. Always found that one to be underrated. I'd put Goblet at the bottom. |
RadicalEd
12.29.14 | 1 is 1. But these ratings are way to high. Like... 1 is the best ovie, but it's more of a 7. |
KrazyKris
12.29.14 | I don't get the love for 1. Never liked it that much. Would probably go with either the Goblet Of Fire or Order Of The Phoenix as my fav. Liked they darker and more mature feel or both of them.
|
PortraitsOfDecay
12.29.14 | Honestly deathly hallows are probably the only ones that I'd still find entertaining at this point, kinda sad how much I've grown out of the series now. And damn, never knew most people loved azkaban this much |
TalonsOfFire
12.29.14 | Completely agreed on the ranking, much as I love the imagination and nostalgia of the first two |
Mongi123
12.29.14 | 4 should be number one. No question for me. Fantastic film. I just love how this developed into a kiddy movie to something a lot darker and more involving. |
zakalwe
12.29.14 | I was sucked into the world of Harry Potter when Goblet (the book) came out. I was old enough to know better but I loved it.
Must have been fucking amazing being a child when it was all going on. |
KingdomOfTyrant
12.29.14 | 4
1
6
2
3
5
7
8
for me. |
Mongi123
12.29.14 | @zak yea I stuck with it from day 1 haha. It was really weird and sad wen the eighth one ended because there's usually the new harry potter movie trailer to look forward to but nope. It's no Lord Of The Rings of course but it was still a great fantasy story. |
NakedSnake
12.29.14 | Deathly Hallows is the greatest book ever written. Never saw the movie because there would be no point. |
Mongi123
12.29.14 | It's great but you need to read more books if you seriously think that. |
SpiritCrusher2
12.29.14 | "the reason why i never read the deathly hallows is that i grew out of potter"
same. by the time it came out I've read all six books, but never got around to reading that one. never seen the last two movies either, just because I haven't read the book haha. I've enjoyed the books a lot more, but films were good too |
wwf
12.29.14 | The Prisoner of Azkaban is obviously one, good choice.
2 is way too high but other than that you pretty much nailed it |
riffariffic7
12.29.14 | I agree with most of the placements on this list. The films definitely got better and better as they went along IMO, so I sometimes find my rankings switching around once in a while. My favourite is easily The Prisoner of Azkaban, though the only problem I had with it was Michael Gambon as Dumbledore, that wasn't necessarily his fault, obviously the death of Richard Harris had a big impact on the production and the sudden switch of actors in that role was distracting until we got partway through Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix. My rankings (along with my favourite scenes) would look something like this:
1. Prisoner of Azkaban [best scene: Harry learning the "expecto petronum" spell thanks to Professor Lupin]
2. Goblet of Fire [best scene: the second challenge, a.k.a. that amazing dragon chase]
3. Deathly Hallows - Part 2 [best scene: Snape's memories and Harry's reaction]
4. Deathly Hallows - Part 1 [best scene: Ron destroying the necklace horcrux]
5. Order of the Phoenix [best scene: Dumbledore vs. Voldemort]
6. Half-Blood Prince [best scene: retrieving the faux horcrux in the caves]
7. Chamber of Secrets [best scene: Harry stabbing the diary]
8. Philosopher's Stone [best scene: giant wizard's chess] |

Mongi123
12.29.14 | One is overrated as fuck I don't get the hype for that one. Goblet of fire is way better. |
Shiranui
12.29.14 | I don't remember if it was Phoenix or Halfblood, but one of them was basically a comedy movie which bored me to death. |
FlyheadMetal
12.29.14 | I think even if you hate HP, you'd still kinda like 1. |
riffariffic7
12.29.14 | Probably Half-Blood, Phoenix had a lot of funny moments, but Half-Blood was like a teenage-love comedy half the time, it was a really weird tone going from one scene to the next. I loved the serious scenes though, like with Draco finding Harry hiding with the invisibility cloak on the train, but the forced comedic scenes made it a pain to sit through at times, plus Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) apparently had a big drinking problem during that film according to interviews so that in of itself is funnier than all of the comedy scenes in that film combined. |
riffariffic7
12.29.14 | @FlyheadMetal - I agree. I thought the first-two films were fairly boring and I can't remember much about them apart from the child actors being really obvious and bad. My friend hated the first-two films and chose not to bother with the rest, I told him to at least give 3 and 4 a chance, which he did, and he ended up loving the 3rd one and most of the 4th one (he didn't like the romance scenes which felt forced, I whole-heartedly agree on that one, but I still find the film is fantastic despite a few annoyances, every Potter film has its flaws). |
TalonsOfFire
12.29.14 | ^The part where he gets drunk with Hagrid and Slughorn after the spider's funeral was pretty great, especially with that in mind |
RadicalEd
12.29.14 | 1. Aszkaban 7.5
2. Goblet of Fire 7
3. Sorcerers Stone 7
4. Chamber of Secretes 6.5
5. Deathly Hallows Part1 5.5
6. Deathly Hallows Part2 5
7. Order of the Phoenix 3
8. Half-Blood Prince 2.5 |
riffariffic7
12.29.14 | @TalonsOfFire - Oh yeah! I forgot about that scene. That's actually one of my favourite parts of the film with Harry taking that luck potion, such a fun scene. That's probably the funniest scene in the whole series looking back on it. |
TalonsOfFire
12.29.14 | The thing about Half-Blood Prince is that it just feels like all the characters hanging out at Hogwarts with random humorous scenes that don't fit thrown in, it's a pretty enjoyable and weird entry of the series and a good calm before the storm of the Deathly Hallows movies |
TalonsOfFire
12.29.14 | Deathly Hallows Pt. 1 is pretty underrated, I love how miserable and contemplative it is and the ending is so bleak and gets you pumped for the finale |
riffariffic7
12.29.14 | Yeah, I loved the bleakness of Deathly Hallows - Part 1. You really got the sense that the stakes were heightened because of the great performances and chilling atmosphere on-display. The only part that took me out of the movie was when they played Wormtail getting knocked out for laughs, that character betrayed Harry's parents, killed Cedric and brought Voldemort back to life, he didn't deserve to be knocked out only to have it played for laughs, he should have been killed (which I believe did happen in the book, which explains why he wasn't in the final film). Little dumb moments like that detract from an otherwise great film, but that's how I feel about all the Potter films, they all have their fair share of stupid moments, but that's what you get when you have a series about witches and wizards. |
FruityCatOfDoom
12.29.14 | Goblet of Fire is the worst movie. Then Chamber of Secrets Though I read all the books before the films, so yeah. |
Flugmorph
12.29.14 | all bad tbh
|
Gyromania
12.29.14 | order of the phoenix is hands down my least favourite harry potter movie (and maybe book for that matter), otherwise this is pretty close to what my list would be |
Muisc4Life26
12.29.14 | @riffariffic7- Awesome list man, you definitely know your Harry Potter.
I definitely loved your statement on Deathly Hallows Pt.1 |
Gameofmetal
12.29.14 | hmmm i always though prisoner of azkaban was the worst with half blood prince at a close second. dunno what my favorite would be |
Tunaboy45
12.29.14 | Part 2 is much better than Part 1 |
Gyromania
12.29.14 | hell no, part 1 is much better |
Trebor.
12.29.14 | part 2 feels like mindless action unless you watch part 1 right before
also it's more inferior to the book form compared to other harry potter movies |
Gameofmetal
12.29.14 | half blood prince is the most inferior to the book counterpart for sure |
Flugmorph
12.29.14 | but 1 is 1 and 4 should be 2 |

12.30.14 | Goblet of Fire's a pretty dece movie imo, I don't see what there really is to hate about it |

Gameofmetal
12.30.14 | they're really all about even in quality tbh |

Gameofmetal
12.30.14 | The books are all better [2] |
SharkTooth
12.30.14 | deathly hallows part 1 was a bit rushed imo, it kinda felt like buildup to part 2 rather than a full
movie |
Mongi123
12.30.14 | I always thought that's what it was essentially meant to be |
Rowan5215
12.30.14 | Basically nothing happened in the first Hallows movie and the dancing scene was cringe-worthy |
Mongi123
12.30.14 | I guess you missed the purpose of that scene then |
Rowan5215
12.30.14 | The purpose being to suggest a romantic development between Hermione and Harry that was never expanded on or made use of because it was a stupid development in the first place? Yeah, guess I did |
Mongi123
12.30.14 | I never thought about it like that at all. They were going through a really rough time and he was trying really hard to brighten her day. I honestly thought it was really touching. |
TalonsOfFire
12.30.14 | The dancing scene was one of the best of part 1 |
Faraudo
12.30.14 | 2 is 1 for me, i'm glad to see it on the top spots, such an underrated film. |
Rowan5215
12.30.14 | He could've shown her affection in a less melodramatic way
it was just so cringey |
Mongi123
12.30.14 | You're cringey. Idk I liked it and never thought four as a romantic gesture haha |
wwf
12.30.14 | I liked it too |

12.30.14 | I'm siding with rowan and cringey. |

01.01.15 | #8 has an amazing score. |
Muisc4Life26
01.01.15 | I forgot to put the Snape and Harry's private lessons scene in Order of the Phoenix lol |
