SCREAM!
04.22.15 | To make sure everyone has time to listen and get familiar with the albums, the discovery rounds will last 3 days each. I might post the next round sooner if all 16 participants cast their vote before the 3 day mark but voting will remain open until that three day period ends for anyone who didn't nominate an album.
Voting for this round closes Friday evening |

Keyblade
04.22.15 | will try to give 1 a listen, but 2 is seriously one of my favorite bm records |
RadioSuicide
04.22.15 | digging the shit out of 1 |
SCREAM!
04.22.15 | Some of the cleans in 2 are a little lulzy not gonna lie. The riffs are sweet though |
hal1ax
04.22.15 | ya thanks for putting this all together scream, this is awesome. Just started Flames of Hell ! |
puntugruhm
04.22.15 | sabbat! |
SCREAM!
04.22.15 | You gotta hear both before voting! |
emester
04.22.15 | Man forgot how tiring the Dwelling is of a listen. I mean its spectacular but one track for an hour is quite exhausting. |
SCREAM!
04.22.15 | Kind of the impression I'm getting on my first listen as well. Will still try to give each a couple of listens before voting |
emester
04.22.15 | Okay, just finished 2 and honestly it does the whole single track album thing extremely well. Right about the time i get bored with a certain part on the album, the band switches things up and manages to keep me engaged. Gonna have to listen to it some more times but 1 is gonna have to really impress me to get my vote |
Cosmoblue
04.22.15 | Not really liking the vocals in the first one much at all |
emester
04.22.15 | I dig them a bit. They sound like a crack hungry hyena |
Cosmoblue
04.22.15 | EVIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIL |
hal1ax
04.22.15 | I didn't like the vocals in 1 very much initially, but they grew on me pretty hard. |
SharkTooth
04.22.15 | sweet, I don't bm much but I fucking love tournaments like this, will def check both out |
L4titudes
04.22.15 | 1's vocalist sounds a bit like adam sandler doing shakespeare in billy madison |
SCREAM!
04.22.15 | Overall 2 definitely impressed me more on first listen although 1 dragged less. Definitely will need to give each a couple more spins. The vocals in 1 fit the style well, I find, although some of the shrieks can sound kind of funny |
hal1ax
04.22.15 | 2 is astounding. I was captivated from beginning to end. I didn't really feel the dragging or tedium. I'll listen to them both again, but I think I may be giving this round to 2. |
porcupinetheater
04.22.15 | Gonna listen a couple more times but I'm pretty sure Sabbat has this thing locked down for me. |
Cosmoblue
04.22.15 | After listening to both, I can confidently say I enjoyed 2 a lot more. The riffs were better, and although some of the clean vocals were kind of funny, they weren't nearly on the level of the vocals in 1 in terms of being so bad that they made me laugh. |
oltnabrick
04.22.15 | never listened to flames of hell before but i like them now |
L4titudes
04.22.15 | My vote is for 2.. engaging from start to finish |
porcupinetheater
04.22.15 | Going to call it. Both are great, but 2 is greater. My vote goes to Sabbat - The Dwelling. |
hal1ax
04.22.15 | voting 2 as well. |
oltnabrick
04.22.15 | im voting for 1 |
SpiritCrusher2
04.22.15 | 2 is a masterpiece, but I'm giving 1 a listen or two now |
Valkyrion
04.22.15 | voting for 2 (if it's even possible to vote for your own proposal) |
emester
04.22.15 | I honestly love both albums. 1 is just engaging all the way through and incredibly fun to listen to while 2 is a much more rewarding listen that experiments with so many ideas and is sucessful in nearly all of them. Plus for the entire hour long track I never felt bored. It definitely was a tiring listen though I have to admit. |
linguist2011
04.22.15 | The Flames of Hell album is pretty awesome if I'm honest. I mean the vocals are pretty standard for the thrashier side of the sound, and their "evil" twist is all the more fun to listen to. It's not an ideal vocal range to have, but what can one expect from an Icelandic guy? Musically, it's very complex and bears similarities to Cirith Ungol's slower moments (for me, at least). The guitar work has a really sadistic vibe to it and just adds to the overall creepy, hellish atmosphere throughout. Definitely enjoyed it. Will check No.2 out accordingly. Can't wait actually since I've heard many great things about Japan's Sabbat. |
SCREAM!
04.22.15 | @Valkyrion as long as you've heard both albums you can vote in every round! |
Valkyrion
04.22.15 | 'kay
to be honest I found both the vocals and production of 1 pretty dated, kind of like the first two bathory albums but not as enjoyable. |
SpiritCrusher2
04.22.15 | 1 is great, absolutely love the guitar sound! but I gotta go with The Melody of Death Mask |
Flugmorph
04.22.15 | great idea dude |

04.22.15 | Sabbat - The Dwelling |
SCREAM!
04.22.15 | 1 almost reminds me of a BM version of Anvil |
SCREAM!
04.22.15 | I'm going with 1. I like the variety 2 has and it's amazing moments are better than anything on 1. However, I feel 1 is more consistently good throughout and doesn't drag as much. |
ChoccyPhilly
04.22.15 | Wow, it's gotta be 2 for me |
SCREAM!
04.22.15 | sabbat is killing this first round |
emester
04.22.15 | I cant believe im saying this but im going with 1. Just easier to listen to all the way through. Really close competition for me but 1 comes out on top for me. If ot were Karisma instead of the Dwelling the outcome would have been different.
In the end, both albums rule face |
Gameofmetal
04.22.15 | 1 was great, pretty thrashy in that old school black metal way that isn't necessarily my favorite but cool stuff. The vocals were hard to get into at first but by the time the halfway point rolled around they felt very much a part of the album. Didn't really dig some of the solo bits though. They kinda came off very amateurish.
Anyways, now onto 2 |
MoosechriS
04.22.15 | Loving the bass tones on 1 adding to the murk of it all, gonna jam 2 again in the morning before casting my vote |
Gameofmetal
04.22.15 | Digging Sabbat more at the moment, but I'm gonna give em both another go before I decide on my vote. |
linguist2011
04.22.15 | The Sabbat album is really, really adventurous. A lot of great ideas thrown around but they all seem to connect with each other in one hour-long epic song. Not sold on the vocals (Somehow, I think the vocal delivery of the Flames of Hell album is more suitable), but the musicianship is excellent just as on the other album.
Needless to say, my vote is for 1. I honestly prefer the vocal delivery AND instrumental performance of "Fire and Steel". It's just the overall impression I'm left with after listening to it numerous times. Both albums are great, but I prefer the slightly more straightforward nature of No.1. Plus the guitar work there is unbelievably well-executed and consistent. |
puntugruhm
04.22.15 | i have heard both. sabbat! |
Hawks
04.22.15 | 1 is sweet, gonna jam 2 tonight. |
SCREAM!
04.23.15 | Haha alright puntugruhm! Vote counted! |

04.23.15 | Gonna vote for Sabbat on this one, although that shouldnt take away from fact that flames of hell are also awesome. |
SCREAM!
04.23.15 | Still have yet to hear anything from Hyperion, Yak or OvDeath
Come on guy you have until tomorrow! |
Hyperion1001
04.23.15 | i listened to both and wasnt really a fan of either but my vote goes for sabbat because the vocals on 1 are hilariously bad and not really in an entertaining way. |
