08.29.15 | Haven't seen it yet Rowan, will avoid the list for now to keep away from spoilers and discuss later. |

08.29.15 | Agreed adr sucks but holy shit what a blaze of glory to go out on
fair enough danny |

08.29.15 | I'd been watching it exclusively online anyway because there's a 2-3 day gap between US and UK broadcasts. Always confused as to what night it actually airs in America, so that it'd be up on streaming sites the morning after. Doesn't help that they changed its scheduling midway through the season.
Great finale though, not quite as overwhelming as its predecessor but powerful nonetheless. I did think the story had slowed considerably since Hannibal's incarceration but I guess that was only because events were essentially identical to Red Dragon. Glad they modified the ending without losing its dramatic impact.
Only thing that irked me a little was Dolarhyde's finding and overpowering of the police patrol. Could've done with some explanation as to how he located it so easily. Maybe Will filled him in with details of its route? Idk |
Rowan5215
08.29.15 | it was definitely a slower season and the Florence part could have lost one episode but on the whole I think it was the best for sure
As soon as they changed what happened what Will's family a few episodes before I was just so excited because literally anything could happen from that point and holy fuck they delivered
agreed about the police thing but I think it's fair to assume Will gave him the route
my main nitpick was that they didn't delve into Dolarhyde's past, the movie did that a lot more and they had like 2 less hours to work with. If they'd had an episode delving into that it would have been a perfect series |
InfamousGrouse
08.29.15 | Did Dolarhyde not attack Will's family in the movie before the climactic scene in Will's house? Been years since I saw it but I thought I was clear on the major details.
Actually laughed post-credits. Was like "Damnnn Gillian is looking fine... oh.."
Whatever happened to Chiyoh anyway? God bless. |
Rowan5215
08.29.15 | Nah that's the only time he interacts with them in the movie that I can recall, they moved it forward to pre-Freddy's death in the TV show and obviously changed that scene majorly
I was genuinely confused what was happening for a while, didn't even notice the leg thing till I looked online
They really did not play that storyline well, if the show ever comes back hopefully they redeem it |
Deviant.
08.29.15 | Really want another season just so I can see the murder husbands storyline in full swing. I mean, that table at the end was set for 3 people |
Confucius
08.29.15 | I don't think Will and Hannibal REALLY fell off that cliff, it was a metaphorical scene. Otherwise it would be unrealistic. |
Deviant.
08.29.15 | Would completely undermine the earlier conversation about how the rocks had eroded away |
Rowan5215
08.29.15 | First of all wasn't really a fall more of a jump and secondly are you expecting realism from this show? |
Confucius
08.29.15 | Yeah you are both right

08.29.15 | I bet it's rubbish. Can't we have an HBO box set, massive budget series thing based in reality? A kitchen sink drama Hannibal would be amazing.

02.07.16 | i loved it. it firmly cements hannibal as a love story of sorts. i just wish they kept it going |
Rowan5215
02.07.16 | did you only just see it gyro lol |
Gyromania
02.07.16 | lol yeah i was WAY behind :P
one of the best tv shows i've ever seen though. the character development is so good - so good, in fact, that it led me to empathize with hannibal and understand his quest to liberate will |
Rowan5215
02.07.16 | It's not perfect - my main problem is the sometimes dreadfully boring pseudo-deep dialogue - but in almost every other respect it was incredible. The cinematography especially was just head and shoulders above any other tv show around right now |
Gyromania
02.07.16 | yeah i feel like sometimes the dialogue was meandering and silly, or maybe just unnecessarily dressed up in metaphors and purple prose. but then again, why not? right? hannibal enjoys exercising his literary genius. while i did enjoy the series finale, i felt like it was... rushed. the season 2 finale was breathtakingly beautiful though |
Rowan5215
02.07.16 | S2 finale is one of the best ever on TV, I can't recall my jaw ever dropping that hard for anything else. Purple prose is definitely a good way to describe the dialogue, it's just kind of... muddy |
ScorchingMerkaba
02.07.16 | I'm such a fan boy of this show. I think every season is amazing. Favorite moment of season 3 was the one two punch of Dolce and Digestivo. Wrath of the lamb was fantastic of course |
Gyromania
02.07.16 | the conversations can be a little highbrow. i found myself on a few occasions being confused if my mind ever wandered for a few seconds, have to replay conversations to discern usually pretty simple meanings.
i'm a little bit confused overall though. i mean, does this show go by a completely different timeline? does it exist in a separate universe where silence of the lambs never happens? |
Rowan5215
02.07.16 | It's set in its own universe. The content is obviously influenced by the original movies/books but it took those as a basis and then created its own canon, which is why the events of S3 played out completely to the Red Dragon movie |
Gyromania
02.07.16 | they didn't though. hannibal doesn't escape in red dragon, to my knowledge (it's been a while since i've seen it). also will catches him early on in red dragon and puts him away. otherwise yeah it's like a carbon copy |
Rowan5215
02.07.16 | It's really not. In the original movie, it's Freddie Lounds that Dolarhyde captures and kills, not the doctor from the asylum. Will 'catches' him when he burns down his house because he thinks Dolarhyde's dead, but then he comes to Will's house and nearly kills him until Will's wife shoots him dead. None of that happened in the TV show, for obvious reasons - they knew it was gonna be the last season and so they needed a confrontation with Hannibal, Will and Dolarhyde to end it with, hence Hannibal escaping and Dolarhyde coming to Will's house a lot earlier in the season. It's an extremely different story |
