Top 75 Albums of 2015
^What the title says^ |
75 | | Panda Bear Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper
Meh |
74 | | Aphex Twin Computer Controlled Acoustic Instruments Pt. 2
An OK EP |
73 | | Father John Misty I Love You, Honeybear
Beard-rock be gone |
72 | | Oneohtrix Point Never Garden of Delete
Controversial but within the first few minutes I wanted to murder this album because it was giving me a headache |
71 | | Cloudkicker Woum
Probably his most mediocre release, which is a shame because I really loved Subsume and was hoping for a return to that quality |
70 | | Boris Asia
Sadly a disappointment for me and the weakest out of their new albums this year |
69 | | The Decemberists What A Terrible World, What A Beautiful World
Some fun songs but overall lacks consistency |
68 | | Purity Ring Another Eternity
I hoped I would like this more since I love dream pop, but it ended up just being a very OK album |
67 | | Adventures Supersonic Home
A fun little album |
66 | | Toundra IV
A very OK post-rock album |
65 | | Sigh Graveward
Not as good as their last one IMO |
64 | | Max Richter Sleep
Haven't really had enough time to digest it fully, but it's an 8 hour album so can you blame me? |
63 | | Tame Impala Currents
A few great songs but overall their weakest album so far |
62 | | Iron Maiden The Book of Souls
Better than the Final Frontier but could probably have been a single disc with the fat trimmed |
61 | | CHVRCHES Every Open Eye
One of the bigger disappointments of the year for me.. not a bad album, just very very OK |
60 | | The Tallest Man on Earth Dark Bird Is Home
I don't mind him changing up his style, but this album wasn't as memorable as some of his other ones |
59 | | Susanne Sundfor Ten Love Songs
Not necessarily a bad album, but her weakest album so far |
58 | | Boris Warpath
The middle album of their 3 releases. Some good stuff, some meh stuff |
57 | | Mount Eerie Sauna
A bit inconsistent with some brilliant highpoints, but stretches of songs that didn't stand out very much |
56 | | Enslaved In Times
Another solid release from them |
55 | | Periphery Juggernaut: Omega
Good album that has dropped because of other releases in the year |
54 | | Periphery Juggernaut: Alpha
Good album that has dropped because of other releases in the year |
53 | | Gazpacho Molok
Not as good as their last few albums, but it felt like a nod to their first few releases and I enjoyed it |
52 | | Bjork Vulnicura
I know this is low, and it definitely deserves to be higher. I guess part of what plays into it, is if I see myself returning to an album a lot, and while Vulnicura brings it quality-wise, and is Björk's best in many years, it was a hard album for me to listen to, packed with emotions, and I don't think I will be returning to it often |
51 | | Steven Wilson Hand. Cannot. Erase.
It might seem low but honestly I think it's his weakest solo album, but it still has its good moments. For me it's just that the good moments are fewer than before, and with the exception of Routine, I don't think any other song on the album reaches his best, even if the album is well constructed like always |
50 | | Rishloo Living as Ghosts with Buildings as Teeth
Put Tool and Mars Volta in a blender |
49 | | Gavin Harrison Cheating The Polygraph
Some really cool versions of classic PT songs |
48 | | Laura Stevenson Cocksure
Worst album title of 2015? Either way, this is a great album that I think would have been more forgiving if it was the debut album. But because she has already put out Sit Resist and The Wheel, this is a great album that looks like a disappointment in contrast... but I still liked it |
47 | | Faith No More Sol Invictus
Doesn't reach the level of Angel Dust, Real Thing, King For a Day, but on par with Album of the Year and pretty much what I would hope for from a FNM album in 2015, so I'm not that disappointed |
46 | | Etherwood Blue Leaves
Perhaps a bit inconsistent but the best songs make up for the lowpoints |
45 | | August Burns Red Found in Far Away Places
My first exposure to this band and I would check out more |
44 | | Leprous The Congregation
Good stuff |
43 | | High on Fire Luminiferous
Some crushingly heavy riffs |
42 | | Ghost (SWE) Meliora
I'm not really a massive Ghost-fan, but another solid release from them |
41 | | The Wonder Years No Closer to Heaven
Some great songs on it and overall a well crafted album |
40 | | Submotion Orchestra EP III
Short little release but I liked it. Not as great as their last EP, but good stuff |
39 | | Intronaut The Direction of Last Things
They continue to drop great albums, even though I keep hoping that I will eventually get more hooked |
38 | | Lupe Fiasco Tetsuo & Youth
Very good hip-hop album that paled a bit for me when Kendrick dropped TPAB, but I still like it, even if it's lower |
37 | | Amplifier Residue
On one hand it's leftover songs, but I love the band and really liked most of them |
36 | | Sun Kil Moon Universal Themes
I would say it's on par with Benji and has a few standouts, but as a whole album there are parts which are hard to sit through. Not on the level of Ghosts or April |
35 | | Panopticon Autumn Eternal
Probably on par with the last one, but harder to absorb |
34 | | So Hideous Laurestine
Mono 2.0 but it doesn't bother me |
33 | | Death Grips The Powers That B - Part II: Jenny Death
Probably their best album since Money Store, and has some great standout songs, but overall I'm just getting a bit fatigued on DG |
32 | | Dog Fashion Disco Ad Nauseam
Not as good as Sweet Nothings, but another solid release. Always fun listening to a DFD or Polkadot album |
31 | | Viet Cong Viet Cong
An early favorite this year that I still very much enjoy, but there has been a lot of great releases since |
30 | | Gunship Gunship
The sound of the 80s is strong |
29 | | Beach House Thank Your Lucky Stars
Not as good as Depression Cherry, but another good album from them. Doesn't reach the highest level of Bloom/Teen Dream or DC, but still adds some more great songs to their discography |
28 | | Boris Urban Dance
Easily the best out of their 3 albums this year |
27 | | Grimes Art Angels
Not AS good as Visions, but several standout songs and overall a great album |
26 | | Joanna Newsom Divers
A really great album and I guess I should check out her other stuff |
25 | | Sufjan Stevens Carrie and Lowell
Didn't like this quite as much as Illinois, but another great album from him |
24 | | Attalus Into the Sea
Very good debut album |
23 | | Mew +-
Not as good as Kites or Stories, but on par with Frengers overall IMO |
22 | | Godspeed You! Black Emperor 'Asunder, Sweet and Other Distress'
I know some people were disappointed but I really liked it, just that their discography is so strong that even an 8/10 looks weak |
21 | | Fightstar Behind the Devil's Back
Some sick riffs on this |
20 | | Everything Everything Get To Heaven
TAKE ME TO THE DISTANT PAST |
19 | | Prurient Frozen Niagara Falls
What a great experience this album was |
18 | | Riverside Love, Fear and the Time Machine
A very laid-back album from them and perfect to listen to at night time |
17 | | Loma Prieta Self Portrait
Not AS good as I.V, but I still really liked this a lot. Closing track is epic as hell |
16 | | Chelsea Wolfe Abyss
She continues putting out great albums |
15 | | Hop Along Painted Shut
Got into them through their previous album, but this one was even better |
14 | | Riya Sublimation
I can feel the DnB running through me |
13 | | Turnover Peripheral Vision
Really catchy album |
12 | | We Lost the Sea Departure Songs
Post-Rock standout of 2015 |
11 | | mewithoutYou Pale Horses
Really great album with some really good lyrics |
10 | | Foxing Dealer
This album was pretty much a sleeper. Didn't think much of it after the first 5-6 listens, put it away for a month or two and then returned, and was surprised by how many songs that just clicked. Right moment in time I suppose |
9 | | Between the Buried and Me Coma Ecliptic
Still the most enjoyable album they have done after Colors IMO |
8 | | The Dear Hunter Act IV: Rebirth in Reprise
Went into this without any expectations after being very underwhelmed by Migrant and Casey's side-project, but this was awesome, and on par with Act II |
7 | | Beach House Depression Cherry
Initially I wasn't sure if I loved the album or only liked it, but after hearing some of the songs live, it grew on me |
6 | | The World Is a Beautiful Place... Harmlessness
They took what they did on the debut and made it even better! |
5 | | Deafheaven New Bermuda
Not as amazing as Sunbather, but a very good follow-up that stands on its own |
4 | | Julia Holter Have You In My Wilderness
Not sure if I like it more than Loud City Song, but it's in the same league |
3 | | Kendrick Lamar To Pimp a Butterfly
Lives up to the hype and tops GKMC |
2 | | Vennart The Demon Joke
Mike is back and I hope he doesn't vanish back into being a tour guitarist for Biffy Clyro again |
1 | | Kamasi Washington The Epic
3 hours of epicness |
|
