I saw TWIABP and Into It. Over It.

Went to the Black Cat in DC with my fellow Asians Chris and Tien to see The World is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die and Into It. Over It. Chris had already seen TWIABP twice before and I hadn't, so we were pumped for that. Tien had never been to a concert, and for that matter I don't think he even really likes music all that much, but he's the kind of guy to pull a bag of Sour Patch Kids out of nowhere, so we need him around.
1Pinegrove
Cardinal

We came in about half an hour after doors opened, got our hands X'd, and saw the opening act. Pretty decent in my opinion, but Chris thought they were a bore. A little too acoustic Jimmy Eat World from the sounds of it, but I dug it enough to cop the album on tape after the show. Funny singer dude, as well. I give it a 7 on the Charmin' meter.
2The Sidekicks
Runners in the Nerved World

Hory chit, this band was awesome. Kind of a Dinosaur Jr, pillows, and Gish-era Smashing Pumpkins hybrid. Basically they sounded like anime. Tien liked them a fuckload, so after the show he got a picture and autograph from the guitarist. His name is Steve. 8 on the Charmin' meter.
3The World Is a Beautiful Place...
Harmlessness

Now for what we came to see; me, Chris, and Tien didn't ever leave for drinks or anything cause we wanted to get as close as possible, so I was pretty damn tired already. They took their time getting setup, but it was a sight to behold once they did. No mosh pits formed, but there was some aggressive head nodding, and I was able to jump in place without spilling anyone's beer. Pretty experimental setlist from them actually. They played January 10th and Heartbeat in the Brain as usual, but then they did something from Death to New Years and played deeper cuts on Harmlessness. Only one other song from Whenever, If Ever and then another EP song (dunno which one; Katamari Duqette I think it was called). Very atmospheric, almost able to ignore the singer's pretty strained voice and the obnoxious asshole behind screaming sexist shit towards Derrick and their keyboardist. Fuck that guy. 9 on the Charmin' meter.
4Into It. Over It.
Proper

It was around 10:30 when this show started, and if we stayed past 11 it'd cost another 10$ for parking so we decided to hit the merch booth and then leave. What I did hear from the set was alright. I've always seen this guy as a less-memorable and less-relatable Jeff Rosenstock. Just as charismatic as him, though. I didn't have a strong opinion of the show at all.
5Nine Inch Nails
Ghosts I-IV

We stopped at Denny's around midnight. Chris got a Harmlessness poster and a little scarf, Tien got an autographed Sidekicks CD and their t-shirt, and I got a cat TWIAB t-shirt and that cassette. Got home at 1:07 about.
