05.03.16 | Well you can't be expecting uplifting vibes from every prog album ;) |

I wasn't expecting to be a part of the final round tbh. At first I thought Phoenix and Seven Impale would have taken the lead.
Landberk is really more of my style than Duffard. The latter has its moments (eg, Porte-Moi de l'eau, Marie), but I can't fully appreciate it. On the other hand, Landberk are the specialists of the dark side of the prog. I enjoy every songs off this album, thanks to the very original, fuzzy sounding of the guitarist Reine Fiske, and the mellotrons all around, and in extra, the band plays the early style of symphonic prog, which is a winning combination.
So yeah, Landberk. |
MrSirLordGentleman
05.03.16 | haha is not that, is just that 1 feels too edgy for me and 2 feels like the same modern prog sound you find in, well, modern prog |

05.03.16 | I'll go with Landberk. Nothing truly unique on it for me, but at least it is a pleasent listen unlike Pascal |

05.04.16 | ^^^agreed, they are two completely different albums trying to create different sounds and both succeed (in their own ways). |

05.05.16 | Sorry I only participate now, but as we say in my country, is better late than never.
We have really a truly obscure album right here. I confess that I had never heard anything about the album of Pascal Duffard. However, it's really a very interesting obscure work.
However, the music of Landberk is more in my style than the other. So, my vote goes to "One Man Tells Another", too. |

05.05.16 | This is such a difficult choice, as I truly dig both of these albums for different reasons. Landberk's record is moody and moving and it's one I know I'll return to again and again. However, I really like the variety and eclecticism of Dieu est Fou, and I'm so glad this tourney introduced me to it. My vote goes to 1 this time. |

05.05.16 | With several listens of Dieu est Fou, everything is at the right place and everything makes sense, even the twisted, demential operatic voices and the dissonant instrumental parts. In fact everything is calculated to offer a very coordonated and well structured musical experience as a whole. I only have trouble with Action-Reaction where they pushed the boundaries a little too far. It sounds like an exorcism that turned bad. Also the t/t lacks of cohesion, but I like very much the vocals that simultaneously follow the piano.
It's less easy to digest Dieu est Fou, but once it's done, it's really a treat. |

05.07.16 | I generally love outright experimentation as Dieu est Fou offers. And while I definitely liked Dieu est Fou - it contains some spectacular moments, in fact - I felt its utter weirdness wasn't always necessary, like it is in, say, Magma, or that at times it didn't fully serve the music.
On the other hand, One Man Tells Another is possibly the most successful attempt at blending prog and 90s music trends. My vote goes to Landberk |

05.07.16 | Alright guys, I'm making the call. I excused Meat from having to vote since his dad passed away. I doubt Fripper will come around cause he's still salty as a pretzel. That leaves only Sharktooth. With just one vote left we already have a winner, folks. |
Jethro42
05.07.16 | Yessss!
I confess I was hoping for an equal score to go on over time :) but I'll take it. It was a funny ride even if we sometimes had hard times to gather the contestants. For the ones who are interested, I invite you to visit the short Landberk discog. Take note that Lonely Land is the English version of Riktigt Akta (Swedish version). It's the same band, the same style. Indian Summer is different. It's more a song oriented album. It seems they tried to gain more popularity with that one. |
Jethro42
05.07.16 | Thank you Friday for another successful tourney. It was very funny, and I'll be sure to continue to jam some of these albums. See you in another of your tournaments, who knows! Thanks again! |
Onirium
05.07.16 | Yes, thanks, Friday! I feel more records will become regular listens for me from this contest than previous ones |
MrSirLordGentleman
05.07.16 | Besides my nominee, Savarin is the only one that will stay regular for me |

05.07.16 | Cool guys, glad you enjoyed it. I'll make sure to keep all these bands in my jam list. |

05.08.16 | Another great prog tourney, Friday. Thanks for coming out of semi-retirement and running the show. It really is the best one on Sputnik. |
Friday13th
05.08.16 | You're welcome, TWIG. Thanks, I'll probably go back to "retirement" once I start law school in the fall, but didn't want to completely disappoint the sput prog community this year haha |
