How has your 2016 been so far?

Okay, so this list is going to be a combination of firstly, the albums that i've liked this year so far. But it's also going to be a list with the things that I haven't had the time to listen to yet but really want to. So, how has your year been so far? Mine has been fucking weird, in like the least weird way possible. I finally got to move out from my mom's (finding a rental apartment here where I live is fucking ridiculous, it's not uncommon for people over 25 to still live at home because of it) and rent my friends apartment for two months, and now i'm back home which freakin' sucks. My mom has been in the hospital for issues with severe muscle weakness and heart problems, my self-esteem been even more shit than usual, and combine that with the fact that i've had a sore throat/cough/cold for basically 3 weeks now. I work a dead end job that I hate, in a place I hate. Basically imagine that i'm this somewhat introverted guy (actually i'm somewhere inbetween extrovert and introvert, ambivert i've heard someone call it, it all depends on mood and setting) and working as a salesman in an area with a lot of immigrants that hardly knows my language, OR english for that matter. It's not great. I've also been a moron and bought way too many things to try to achieve at least a bit of material happiness, so i'm basically broke as well. I'm changing all of that right now but yeah, it's a bit shit. Also my mom is dating a guy who's basically this scumbag who's probably a sociopath. He lies about EVERYTHING, and I even think that he's unemployed even though he says that he has a job, and I think he's actually homeless now as well. Because conveniently the day that my mom got put in the hospital, he had "lost his apartment keys" so he had to get new ones made and stay here until he had fixed that. Also he owes my mom $500+ There are some high points, but as of now they're still a bit overshadowed by the other aspects right now. But I remain hopeful, for real!
1The 1975
I Like It When You Sleep For You Are So Beautiful

(Pop/Indie/Electro)
This is my favorite band as of now, and I know that they've gotten a bit of a shitty reputation here. But I just think that they're the best pop band out there now. They have an extremely varied yet cohesive sound, and basicailly it's just so FUN. They have the emotional songs, they have the upbeat happy songs, and just some really chill tracks, some instrumental, some not. Most of you won't agree and discredit me, and the fact of the matter is that a lot of you WILL hate this list overall (looking at you Pots)
2Anderson .Paak
Malibu

(Soul/Hip-Hop/R&B)
I have mad respect for this guy. Saw him live a couple of months ago, and damn. He put on such a phone show, and he's so much more than your average rapper. Also the fact that he sings and raps while also drumming is really impressive.
3Gallant
Ology

(R&B)
This guy, this guy right here. He's about to blow up big time, and he's been on my radar for quite some time. He was already in the game when this whole new wave of R&B started coming through (call it indie R&B, call it PBR&B if you wish, but I won't), but it's just now he's starting to become really popular.
Bourbon is a fantastic track, and this mans' falsetto is just so cool.
Think modern electronic R&B with somewhat of an 80's pop/soul/funk-vibe, you can hear some Prince in there if you really think about it.
4Honne
Gone Are The Days

(Pop/Soul/R&B/Electronic)
These guys are doing good things. Admittedly it's starting to sound a bit same-ish right now, but No Place Like Home is such a beautiful and chill track. They started out sounding like James Blake Light, but now they've found their own sound.
I'm also sorry guys, my music taste has gotten a bit more... mainstream lately. I don't mind it though. I like what I like. But yeah, don't expect this list to contain any drone/doom or anything. It's just not been my thing this year (or hardly ever, but I don't mind them).
5Dance Gavin Dance
Tree City Sessions

(Post Hardcore/Prog/Tech/Whatever)
Yes. I love this band. Been one of my favorites since 2006. Not many bands have stuck with me that long, and I love seeing how their discography keeps growing, this is one of two albums they're releasing this year.
This is a live-in-studio recording of material that extends all through their discography, but with their "new" singer, and it's interesting to hear his take on the songs. Some he actually does better than their old vocalists.
6Drake
Views

(R&B/Hip-Hop)
This album has been very polarizing, i've seen a lot of people say that it's shit. I wholeheartedly disagree though. I haven't really had the time to spin it all too many times, but what i've listened to, I really like. I like Drake when he's all mellow and sappy about how his life sucks because he's fucked too many bitches that week and how his millions are weighing him down while i have 2 bucks on my bank account. Yeah it's relatable as fuck. No but really, I am not much for his bangers, I prefer the softer R&B songs, and this one has a lot of them. If You're Reading This had a lot of the harder-hitting tracks so I feel that the mixtape brought that, and this shows off the other side of him.
7Fallujah
Dreamless

(Death Metal/Atmospheric/Progressive/"Core")
Nah, I don't really think they're very core, but someone is probably gonna point out and be like "NUH THAT AIN'T REAL DEATH METAL BRAH, YOU CAN HEAR THE INSTRUMENTS AND THE PRODUCTION IS ALL SMOOTH AND GLOSSY", well except for the fact that people who listen to death metal wouldn't talk like that. Also "NAH MAN, THIS SHIT AIN'T PROGRESSIVE JUST BECAUSE THEY PLAY SOME TECHNICAL RIFFS" well, big woop. This album sounds like the follow-up to their previous album, it's basically more of the same but more polished. Delivering some beautiful hooks to an actual death metal record, and some beautiful guitar leads. It CAN become a bit same-y though.
8Frightened Rabbit
Painting of a Panic Attack

(Indie/Rock/Folk)
Yusss. I love me some scottish accents. The first two tracks on here are really beautiful.
I think i've come to the part of the list where I actually haven't listened as much to the albums that i'm listing as I want, so be prepared for that.
9James Blake
The Colour in Anything

(Electronic/Soul/Other)
Yeah, i've heard really good things about this so far. Only listened a bit too it, and it sounds really really good. I just hope that it catches on. Always liked his sound A LOT, yet never actually got into his work more than just listening to the albums every now and then without really getting aquainted with the songs on there.
10 JMSN
It Is.

(R&B/Soul)
This is not even in the database yet, which is a bummer. This guy started out like a darker R&B artist, think The Weeknd meets Justin Timberlake, but he has changed his vibes completely. I preferred his older sound in that it resonated more with me emotionally, but this is also so cool. He has gotten really soul-influenced, some really chill vibes on here. You can hear a bit of gospel/60's soul-vibes yet with a modern R&B touch, and it's smooooth af.
11Radiohead
A Moon Shaped Pool

(Radioheadcore)
I've never been huge on Radiohead. I've never disliked them, but never got into any of their albums.
This is hopefully what changes that. The first track didn't impress me all too much, Daydreaming is a beautiful track though. Will definitely try to listen more to this. And yes i've heard pretty much their entire discography but haven't listened to the albums back-to-back more than once.
12ANOHNI
HOPELESSNESS

(Electronic/Pop)
This one is difficult for me to judge. Her voice is very... unappealing in my opinion. Or unfitting is more like it, but I really like this instrumentals. i'm hoping that it's just a matter of having to get used to the vocals.
13Aborted
Termination Redux

(Death Metal/Deathgrind or whatever you cool kids call it these days)
I actually prefer this to the full-length. Hits hard.
14The Fall of Troy
OK

(Post-Hardcore with some spazzy technical shizzztustichal barshrhumorem I don't even want to talk genres anymore, people will just be like "NO YOU'RE WRONG THIS IS NOT PROGRESSIVE OR CHAOTIC)

A return to form. It can't be compared with Doppelgänger, Manipulator or Ghostship, but so much better than In The Unlikely Event. It's a fun album.
15Saosin
Along the Shadow

(Post-Hardcore/Rock)
I mean, this JUST came out. But i'm a fan of Anthony Green in Circa Survive, and he sounds great on here. It brings me back to the days when they just had their first EP or maybe like just when Cove joined and it mostly when to shit after the first full-length.
Anyway this sounds solid enough from a first listen, it's cool to hear Anthony Green do some more poppy shit yet also scream again. Coolcoolcool.
16Chance the Rapper
Coloring Book

(Hip-Hop and stuffff)
I like the first few tracks, want to check this out more. Like the more gospel and soul-y vibes I get from it.
17Majid Jordan
Majid Jordan

(R&B/Electronic)
Fuck, forgot about this. Should've been higher up. Oh well, I dig these guys. Running out of time to write a list here, have to get to work.
18LUH
Spiritual Songs for Lovers to Sing

(???)
Kinda hard to say. This features the vocalist from WU LYF, and I think his voice is pretty cool.
Think I prefer this to WU LYF even, more electronic vibes.
19Marcus Marr and Chet Faker
Work

Also a very cool EP.
