06.14.16 | I use Goodreads but it's more of an RYM for books, it doesn't have the community aspect like sput. Still a good way to keep track of stuff you've read or some you'd like to read |

06.14.16 | Ulysses is great. Here is some great reads off the top of my head:
Notes from the Underground (Fyodor Dostoevsky)
Home to Harlem (Claude Mckay)
The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch (Philip K. Dick)
Junky (William S. Burroughs)
The Island of Dr. Moreau (H.G. Wells)
The Iceman Cometh (Eugene O' Neill)
Anthem (Ayn Rand) (I like parts of this but not much else by her is intriguing)
Passing (Nella Larsen)
Crash (J.G. Ballard)
On The Road (Jack Kerouac)

06.14.16 | i'm reading Crime and Punishment atm and it's damn great so far |
Torontonian
06.14.16 | @cyg I only read like the first 30 pages but to me it seemed like the writing style of Hawthorne to be overly self indulgent and ultimately tries too hard to make a unique writing style which only results in dischelved and contrived sounding structure and prose. It's really just such a bore to read. I have the same issue with ulysses. Neither of which I've read very much of. |
Cygnatti
06.14.16 | read the first 50 pages of on the road.
was okay. idk |

06.14.16 | Harry Potter Books 1-7 (J.K. Rowling) |

06.14.16 | @adr/guitarded_chuck: Dostoevsky is an amazing writer. I have been reading some of his short stories lately and I have to say that they are just as powerful as his novels. I really like White Nights, The Dream of a Ridiculous Man, and The Peasant Marey from the collection I picked up. Of course nothing touches The Brothers Karamazov. |
p4p
06.14.16 | Goodreads but idk some of the ratings there are just sad |
guitarded_chuck
06.14.16 | yeah im almost done tbk and read crime & punishment before that, i could go on and on about both of them |
Idolatrous
06.14.16 | @cyg you have to read all of On The Road to truly appreciate it.
@Toad I do not like Rand much. But I was rather fond of Anthem due to how she developed her themes throughout its short length. It is very predictable though and I only read it because it was free. |

06.14.16 | @Torontonian Now that I think of it the way I got into Joyce was through some of his shorter novels. Therefore I suggest The Dubliners and A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. They are both beautiful works and the latter is very close to my heart so I hope you would enjoy it. Then you can perhaps divulge into Ulysses much easier. |
guitarded_chuck
06.14.16 | ive got both of those lying around to read soon hal1ax |
