10.11.16 | Porcupine: if you can, do you have an opinion on the best conducted performances of those pieces?
Fripp, I was actually kinda waiting for Insurrection to pop up and put in some stuff but Jac also sounds like a great user to go to as well thanks |
SandwichBubble
10.11.16 | Not very knowledgeable with classical music, to be frank. So many compositions!..
But, I did go on a binge recently and listened to a good performance of "Symphony No. 4" by Mahler. Can't for the life of me find it though. I'll see if I can dig up a YouTube video of it.
Edit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Efj5HUa4Ah8 I think this was it. Not sure. |

10.11.16 | Lemme fill you in on a few from my man Debussy.
Reverie: The proper performance length for this piece should be about 4 min 30 seconds. Thollier has a very nice rendition.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRjllL-MP0U
Clair de Lune: We’ve all heard this one. Malinowski’s interpretation is top-notch.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJsyMmC76aM
Sarabande: The version by Beroff is head and shoulders above the rest.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t23kdDayv9E
Nuages: This one is written for orchestra. You can’t rush this piece. The Chicago Symphony Orchestra recording has excellent pace and emotion.

10.11.16 | I asked for recs to include renditions you feel are the best interpretations of the work, conductor/orchestra and all. Frankly, if I wanted composers or symphonies plain and simple I'd've looked at the charts |
Pon
10.11.16 | You'd be better off asking Havey or Liledman because they're infinitely better versed in classical music than I am. I'm generally not a huge fan of romanticism (which you seem to be after) but check Solti's rendition of Dvorak's 9th with the Chicago Symphony. |

10.12.16 | but if i were you, tvc, i would just browse the RYM romanticism , serialism, baroque, etc. etc. charts and listen to the most highly rated, popular renditions, and then once you have familiarized yourself with all of the styles, then maybe get picky about the various renditions. |

10.12.16 | I can't really add much to this conversation. But I can say that I've listened to many, many versions of Toccata and Fugue, but my favorite is probably this one:

Why this one? I don't know. Perhaps it's because I can actually watch him playing it and I'm more impressed in that regard, but this remains my favorite.
