swallowtales
11.23.16 | more ruminations, i hate my username why did i have to be like 13 when i joined |
SandwichBubble
11.23.16 | can we trade tastes? |
swallowtales
11.23.16 | possibly, then i can feel more elite and distinguishing |
swallowtales
11.23.16 | although you apparently have a superhuman ability to digest music as evidenced by your 13000 ratings, i wish i could do that |
DrMaximus
11.23.16 | You probably have no standards |
swallowtales
11.23.16 | certainly a possibility |
SandwichBubble

11.23.16 | not me it's gotta be one thing or the other to tickle my fancy :( |
Joeman82
11.23.16 | I have the same problem 80% of the time, don't worry about it too much as long as you aren't calling objectively bad music classics. |
swallowtales
11.23.16 | yea i figure it cant be too detrimental really, apart from the increasing destruction of my objectivity score lmao |
Joeman82
11.23.16 | Objectivity scores are weird, they practically encourage you to listen to music you don't like to get a good score. |
swallowtales
11.23.16 | yeah i agree, i would usually think if i listened to something thats generally considered good and didnt like it that its probably just not my thing so dont rate it, maybe i should who knows |
Joeman82
11.23.16 | If the popular conesus is something sucks, like Blood on the Dance Floor, you can pretty easily just rate it low after listening to a few songs. It raises objectivity without having to torture yourself too much. |
swallowtales
11.23.16 | fair, i guess because of the way i discover music i also gravitate towards stuff people who are pretty into music think is good so dont end up listening to stuff like that usually |
ArtBox
11.23.16 | Confirmation bias, usually. "Oh, the majority of Sputnik likes this album, I like Sputnik so I'll probably like this album." And vice versa. |
ArtBox
11.23.16 | How it usually goes for me, anyway. |
swallowtales
11.23.16 | for sure yea, that definitely happens to me cause ive gotten so much music from here over the past 6 years |
Astral Abortis
11.23.16 | liking things is good
also you can get a name change if you ask the mods nicely in the meds thread |
Futures
11.23.16 | 11 whoa props. i only listen to an album if i listen to a single and like it tbh so my average rating is probably a 4 |
ScuroFantasma
11.23.16 | "Confirmation bias, usually. "Oh, the majority of Sputnik likes this album, I like Sputnik so I'll probably like this album." And vice versa."
I experience the opposite quite a bit, like it's heavily underrated and really not that bad, or I'm disappointed that I don't like it as much as the average user. |
wristcry
11.23.16 | you are blessed. |
accompliceofmydeath
11.23.16 | I'd say I like most things I listen to, as well. Although, I mostly seek out music I'm going to like anyway. I don't seek out the newest pop country album because I know I probably won't like it. |
onionbubs
11.23.16 | I've been really meaning to check 11 it looks right up my alley |
rabidfish
11.23.16 | fuckin pleb get outta here *fist shake* |
pjquinones747
11.23.16 | I'd say the music you choose to listen to is pretty hq |
accompliceofmydeath
11.23.16 | 11 is great, but Amateurs and Professionals is much better. |
Sinternet
11.23.16 | anyway yeah i'd much rather enjoy the music i listen to, the only times i really dislike something is if i listen to it for a laugh and know i'll hate it |
owen
11.23.16 | because you only check stuff with high ratings |
MercuryToHell
11.23.16 | I was wondering pretty much the same the other day actually, I guess I don't really give things that don't appeal on sight or genre a chance. Which is a little naive and sad really as I could be denying myself some pretty great stuff. |
Sinternet
11.23.16 | i mean, not really but ok |
bakkermaarten007
11.23.16 | Jealous. I'm lukewarm to most music these days |
wristcry
11.23.16 | i don't like much of anything these days tbqh |
porcupinetheater
11.23.16 | Aside from most of the stuff on current alt-pop radio (like whoever sounds like that Fitz and the Tantrums/Foster the People bullshit), I'm right there with you |
tre
11.23.16 | Maybe you should challenge your musical palette with just off the wall sounding music or subgenres you aren't normally exposed to. |
Sowing
11.23.16 | I'm kinda the same way anymore tbh
I don't love everything I hear but I can almost always set the merit enough to not totally hate it |
worthlessscab
11.23.16 | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DFRZ_9FXvs
you like this? |
tre
11.23.16 | lmao worthless what is this? reminds me of some John Zorn type stuff |
worthlessscab
11.23.16 | powerful free noise improv, it's one of the classics |
swallowtales
11.23.16 | I may take your advice tre, that sounds like fun. Any suggestions of genres to jump into?
also worthlessscab that track is pretty challenging I must say, maybe could get into it if I tried tho haha |
Tyler.
11.23.16 | ive never disliked a single album ever |
worthlessscab
11.24.16 | there's no point to jump to things, try different artists in genres you don't listen to and you're bound to find some things that you will like and it'll start expanding from there. In a couple of years you'll be listening to everything from new age to tuvan throat singing mixed with bulgarian traditional folk. And with all the music you've heard you'll have a base for comparison and your standards will rise |
brainmelter
11.24.16 | you probably have no standards[2] |
