| Albums that I can listen to with my parents
I am working a 11.5 hour shift now, and I just heard a Nickelback song on the radio. That got me thinking of all the songs and albums that both myself and my very conservative, religious, midwestern parents can at least tolerate. Here is the list I can think of after looking through all my music on my phone. I'm sure this list can apply to other people and their parents also haha. | 1 | | Train My Private Nation
I am not sure if Calling All Angels is religious, but my parents sure do think it is. | 2 | | Matchbox Twenty Mad Season
Matchbox twenty does a great job making decent, 'nonthreatening' music. Unwell is the best example of this. | 3 | | 3 Doors Down Away from the Sun
3 Doors Down's first two albums are examples of good 'nonthreatening' music. | 4 | | Nickelback Dark Horse
You can hate Nickelback all you want, but God damn it, they can really make catchy singles. Gotta Be Somebody is defiantly a guilty pleasure for me. Nickelback singles are played everywhere, so I know my parents dont hate it | 5 | | Hoobastank The Reason
While 'the reason' started playing on my phone, my mother mentioned how if my band sounded more like Hoobastank, she would actually enjoy my music, and tell her friends about my music. | 6 | | Toto Toto IV
I remember seeing this CD in my dads CD collection when I was a child. Africa is one of his favorite songs. My mother never tells me to turn it off when I have it playing. | 7 | | The Cars Heartbeat City
My mother doesn't tell me much about her music taste when she was in High School, but she did mention to me that she had a cassette of The Cars greatest hits in high school. I bought this album and have played it while I was in the car with her. She never tells me to turn it off. | 8 | | The Beach Boys Pet Sounds
It blows me away how easy of an album this is to listen to. I remember being in a car ride with both my parents and grandparents, and all four of them mentioned how they liked the music that was playing, which was Pet Sounds. | 9 | | The Alan Parsons Project Eye in the Sky
This was another album that my dad had in his CD collection. He doesn't listen to it much anymore, but when I play it in the car, he doesn't tell me to turn it off. He does like to complain how Michael Jordan diminished the Alan Parsons Project or whatever. | 10 | | The Beatles Help!
"If you are going to play the Beatles, don't play that awful hippie, drugged up Beatles crap. Play anything before Rubber Soul." | 11 | | Skillet Comatose
"If you are going to play music in the car, at least play a Christian band that doesn't sound like the devil himself is singing it." | 12 | | Simon and Garfunkel Bridge Over Troubled Water
Come on, who doesn't like Simon and Garfunkel??? | 13 | | Michael Jackson Thriller
My parents will start tapping their leg until they realize its Michael Jackson. Then they will say, "Turn that creeps music off!" | 14 | | Nickelback Silver Side Up
I know I already mentioned Nickelback, but they are essentially geared towards my parents generation. Plus, this album as a whole is pretty respectable. | 15 | | American Football American Football
So I took my parents to a play in Minneapolis, and its about a 3 hour drive from my parents place to Minneapolis. I played this album during that car ride and they did not complain. They didn't tell me to turn off the devils music, or make snarky comments on how this isn't real music or whatever. So I am counting it on this list. | 16 | | The Cure The Head on the Door
My mother tells me that this reminds of her high school. She never tells me to turn it off. My dad can't stand it though. | 17 | | Johnny Cash The Legend of Johnny Cash
My dad loves Cash. My mother hates how big of a dick he is, but always hum the tune to Ring of Fire when its on. | 18 | | Elvis Presley Elvis: 30 #1 Hits
My parents love listening to Elvis, especially his Christian stuff. | 19 | | a-ha Hunting High and Low
"This is that one song with the music video that looks like a drawing right? Haha, ohh boy that takes me back to High School" | 20 | | ABBA Arrival
Dancing Queen is my fathers jam apparently. | |
