05.31.17 | Wild At heart is too low, absolutely cracking film. Then again, it'd be too hard to rank his films, they're all awesome -- bar maybe Dune for being a little weak. |

05.31.17 | okay I'll do my own one:
Inland Empire (5/5): Masterpiece, his most uncompromising work. No wonder there are a lot of people who don’t like it, but there is nothing like it. One of my favorite movies ever.
Mulholland Drive (strong 4.5/5): I still find it a tad long-winded in the middle, but hell, the last third is the best thing he ever touched. The atmosphere is crushing and even that is an understatement.
The Elephant Man (4.5/5): The first of his two takes on doing a full-on drama movie. Succeeded all the way through. One of the most empathetic and self-aware movies ever. Very moving and with great acting performances throughout.
Eraserhead (4.5/5): Perhaps the most impressive debut movie of all time. Nightmare incarnate, just unbelievable. But it takes a while to pick up. Only gets better and better as it goes on though.
The Straight Story (4.5/5): The second take on drama, this one is a little „tame“, but it doesn’t bother me at all, since the acting and characterization are just brilliant. Beautiful movie.
Lost Highway (4.5/5): Took a little while for this one to fully unfold. I really liked it the first two times I watched it, but not as much as Mulholland Drive by a long shot, even though I couldn’t quite grasp the reasons why. Might have been because of the lack of any sane characters in comparison to Betty in Mulholland Drive. Really hit me hard when I watched it a third time though. Amazing use of the soundtrack!
Blue Velvet (4/5): This one has some problems with the acting (especially concerning Dern) and the story-telling. It doesn’t cross the line of surrealism to the point where an illogical story can be easily excused imo. Still a movie with brilliant imagery and atmosphere and Hopper is amazing.
Twin Peaks – Fire Walk With Me (low 4/5) I liked this one much more than I expected. It’s kinda incoherent, but it’s got a chilling atmosphere and the last half an hour has a lot of really intense moments.
Dune (2/5): Yeah, this one has a lot of flaws, especially concerning the story-telling. All the fight scenes have aged very badly.
Wild At Heart (2/5): Can’t stand this movie, never will. Annoying actors in an annoying script. Dumb movie, but the aesthetics still are spot-on, so it does have its merits.
So, all in all no really bad film and a lot of amazing ones. He's my second favorite director of all time. |

05.31.17 | dune is underrated beause i just find it fun although it is pretty bad
and eraserhead is pretty overrated imo, havent really got around to any of his others that i remember |
DoofusWainwright
05.31.17 | Eraserhead either connects or it doesn't, it's not one to get too academic over - despite all the many interpretations of the symbology |
Thalassic
05.31.17 | Eraserhead, Mulholland Drive, Lost Highway, Inland Empire, Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks (S1 & Fire Walk With Me) all rule hard. Straight Story and Elephant Man are great movies, though less my cup of tea. Dune is kinda fun.
Wild At Heart is cringe af |
Crymsonblaze
05.31.17 | I've only seen Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive, and the first couple episodes of Twin Peaks. I've seen enough to safely say I don't care for his surreal style at all. |

05.31.17 | Los Highway > Mul Dr > Ereaser > Inland > Wild heart > Blue Velvet > Elephant Man > FWWM > Dune > The gay story |

05.31.17 | "Los Highway"
Is that the Spanish remake? |
DungeonBoy
05.31.17 | Just finished S1 of Twin Peaks after putting it off for a really long time, and it's easily one of the best shows I've ever seen. Really looking forward to S2, but surprised to see all of those average ratings for it. I'm really curious to watch it and I wonder if I'll agree with the above ratings. |
Rik VII
05.31.17 | Regarding S2, I agree with what Doofus said about it ("eps range in quality from 1.5-5"), but the latter are so damn worth it. Have fun with them! |
DungeonBoy
05.31.17 | I'll take a few 1.5's for some 5's. I'm still holding out for some more backwards talking dwarf dream sequences. |

05.31.17 | Mulholland Drive is so over rated. |

05.31.17 | Straight Story is at least a 4 for the music alone :( |
