2017 - you may have missed these
Yeah, we all have heard Kendrick, Alt-J, Tyler, Manchester Orchestra, SikTh, etc.
Here's stuff for you to check out. |
1 | | Advent Pain & Suffering
Hardcore. I love their albums, but did not at all expect this to be this good. If you like aggressive hardcore and haven't listened to them before, you're doing something wrong.
https://bridge9.bandcamp.com/album/pain-suffering |
2 | | American Arson Waymaker
Punkish Post Hardcore. TREOS + The Wilhelm Scream + I The Mighty. Lots of earworms here.
https://americanarson.bandcamp.com/album/waymaker |
3 | | Arms and Sleepers LIFE IS EVERYWHERE
Chill Trip Hop. Mostly instrumental, some with a rapper (Airøspace & Serengeti).
https://wearearmsandsleepers.bandcamp.com/album/life-is-everywhere |
4 | | Black Map In Droves
Alternative Rock. Mark Engles (dredg guitarist), Chris Robyn (Far drummer) and Ben Flanagan (The Trophy Fire vocalist/guitarist) live up to their potential. So many hooks, so much of this will stay in your head forever. Catchy, but with an ever brooding atmosphere. Makes me feel as if I'm standing in their rehearsal room with them. Check this out.

5 | | Blood Command Cult Drugs
Norwegian Post Hardcore in the veins of The Bronx / Refused / JR Ewing / Single Mothers / Gallows, etc. with female vocals. Basically, if you like music, check them out.

6 | | Can't Swim Fail You Again
Hardcore Pop-Punk? Throw Hot Water Music, The Menzingers, Trash Boat and a whole lot creativity in a blender and you might get this.
https://purenoise.bandcamp.com/album/fail-you-again |
7 | | Conveyer No Future
Melodic Hardcore. Sound a lot like Counterparts. A LOT. Maybe with a little Comeback Kid mixed in there. If you like either of those bands, you should like this as well.

8 | | Deaf Havana All These Countless Nights
Rock. You can tell that it took them four years to write this one. The passion is still there. Though it might not be as good as Old Souls, Deaf Havana still show they're leaps and bounds ahead of all similiar sounding bands.

9 | | Die Negation Herrschaft der Vernunft
German Post Hardcore / Punk. Angriest record of the year, hands down. And I do know that Converge is coming. Listen to Knochenmann or Scheusal von Oldenburg if you doubt me. The drummer is also in Heaven Shall Burn, but this sounds nothing like them. Dry as a bone production, awesome riffs, great lyrics (if you understand German ;) ). Give this a chance, you might be in for a surprise.

10 | | Eidola To Speak, To Listen
Post Hardcore. Dance Gavin Dance + Artifex Pereo + lots of ADD and creativity. Needs lots of listens to fully sink in.

11 | | Fort Hope The Flood Flowers, Vol. 1
Rock. Not as catchy as their EPs, but shows all signs of a band growing. Despite signing with a major they went for a cohesive, melancholic album feeling, instead of a hit song. The Ward is definitely one of the best songs they ever wrote.

12 | | Ghost Key If I Don't Make It
Melodic Hardcore. Another band with a huge Counterparts influence. I also hear a lot of The Carrier. If that doesn't get you to check them out they're probably not for you anyways.
https://invoguerecords.bandcamp.com/album/if-i-dont-make-it |
13 | | Heretoir The Circle
(very) Melodic Black Metal. I don't listen to enough Black Metal to be able to compare this to anything without making myself look like a fool. Listen to The White and Fading With The Grey, if you don't like either of those, try listening to the album as a whole. If you still don't like it, go see a doctor, have your ears checked.

14 | | Loathe (UK) The Cold Sun
Post Hardcore / Djent / ??? Like many others, I'm growing more and more weary of Post Hardcore and Djent these days. All bands sound the same. Well, until Loathe came along. This also reminds me a lot of Spitfire's Cult Classic (overall feel and electronics, not as chaotic though).

15 | | Nyck @ Knight Nyck @ Knight
Hip-Hop. Nyck Knight is one of the most overlooked rappers right now. This is even better than his stellar debut album. Audiopium is up there for Hip-Hop track of the year.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUC01qHsMOQ |
16 | | P.O.S Chill, Dummy
Hip-Hop. It does not beat Never Better as my favorite album of his, but that's the only negative thing I can say about it. This album really shows his fearlessness as a producer. Roddy Piper is one of his best tracks ever if you ask me.
https://p-o-s.bandcamp.com/album/chill-dummy |
17 | | Push Over Demo
Post Hardcore. Thomas Erak (Fall Of Troy) + Kurt Travis (ex A Lot Like Birds, ex Dance Gavin Dance). Need I say more?
https://pushovermusic.bandcamp.com/ |
18 | | Sevdaliza Ison
Trip Hop / Dark Pop. If you like Banks and/or Portishead, this is up your alley.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znV9KDsNtXY |
19 | | Tigers Jaw spin
Emo / Indie Rock. This seems to have gotten overlooked somewhat. It rules though. Should have all the hype Charmer had, as well. Check it out.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?list=PLgCWAIYIgqz14rx9rOcSUzsApmwqiCL-M&v=NW5XKQbPDto |
20 | | Tigerwine Die With Your Tongue Out
Post Hardcore / Grunge. Taking that Grunge revival to some other spheres I haven't really heard from another band before, except maybe Safe To Say. Lots of great songs on here, they manage to show their whole spectrum while still achieving a great cohesiveness and longevity.

21 | | UNKLE The Road, Pt. 1
Trip Hop legend James Lavelle is back. This is somewhat of a reinvention for UNKLE as he doesn't have a main collaborators, but instead a lot of different ones. More importantly though, he takes it from a more Rock oriented sound to a much more electronic sound. Back to the roots some might say. Great either way I say.
