Friday13th
11.13.17 | I'm settled with all but one of these match-ups. I'm gonna have to jam those two to make my decision. | bgillesp
11.13.17 | 2,3,5,7
Easy match ups for me this time | e210013
11.13.17 | As a newbie here, Friday, can you confirm to me what is the next step? For what I could understand of the last tournament, each contestant choose four albums. And I suppose that without any kind of order. Am I right? | Papa Universe
11.13.17 | Todd
Quartero
Garolou
Slapp Happy and Henry Cow | MrSirLordGentleman
11.13.17 | 801
Quarteto
Island
Ingranaggi | bgillesp
11.13.17 | You pick 1v2, 3v4, etc | e210013
11.13.17 | Ok. Thanks bgillesp. | e210013
11.13.17 | Here are my choices:
1 - 801
3 - Quarteto
4 - Island
8 - Ingranaggi Della Valle
Nice tournament week. But it seams that it will be very short and fast, for what I can see. | Jethro42
11.13.17 | We're moving towards the winner...
I have couple of hard decisions to take... | Friday13th
11.13.17 | @e21 Like bgill said, 1 v. 2, 3 v. 4, etc. You don't rank them, just get to chose one from each pair. | e210013
11.13.17 | Thanks Friday. As you see I did it already. | Sabrutin
11.13.17 | Island v. Garolou
noooooooo | e210013
11.13.17 | @ Jethro
I can see it. With my decision I left behind the album of Universal Totem Orchestra, one of my favourites. But, besides Quarteto be my knight, it passed already the test of time while the other still no. So, in my opinion, this was the right decision, in this case. | Jethro42
11.13.17 | @e21
Yeah, Quarteto is an instant winner, but it's an hard call between it and Universal Totem Orchestra, which is my best prog discovery of the tourney. | Friday13th
11.13.17 | Yeah, I like Quarteto, but there's no question I'm going to choose my favorite, UTO. | e210013
11.13.17 | I agree, Jethro. But I can join also Island and Ingranaggi Della Valle, in my case. | e210013
11.13.17 | No problem Friday. No hard feelings. | bgillesp
11.13.17 | I wasn't a big UTO fan and Quarteto was my fav | Jethro42
11.13.17 | It's good to hear that, cheers, e21. | e210013
11.13.17 | I always had a very sportsman spirit, ah,ah,ah. | Jethro42
11.13.17 | That's a good thing really, pal.
I was cheering for your best prog discoveries ;) | e210013
11.13.17 | In reality they are many, as you know for what i wrote in my comments. But those three are the biggest of all. By the way, congratulations for your choice. | Jethro42
11.13.17 | It was a hard battle to go through in my case. I think it would have been easier with my second choice, Fabio Zuffanti, since it's more accessible. | TwigTW
11.13.17 | I see we're taking the brakes off this week.
| Divaman
11.13.17 | Oh no! The nightmare scenario -- choosing between Quarteto 1111 and UTO. Brutal choice. | Jethro42
11.13.17 | Same here, Diva :/ | TwigTW
11.13.17 | By the way Jethro... I had a chance to listen to your first entry only once, but I was surprised when you changed it. I thought you had a sure winner there. | Jethro42
11.13.17 | Yes Twig, I really love La Quarta Vittima, but I had Warm Spaced Blue in priority, even if I didn't know it as much as La Quarta Vittima. I only had the feeling that WSB had more chances than the other one for its similarities with Anglagard and Anekdoten. WSB is also shorter, and I prefer the vocals too.
The thing is I was unable to find a proper link for WSB. That's why I opted for La Quarta Vittima... Until I finally found a link for WSB. Glad that you took the time to listen to my other entry, and that you seemed to dig it. | TwigTW
11.13.17 | Oh yeah, will definitely be listening to that again. | Jethro42
11.13.17 | I take advantage of the tribune; I would like if people would take the time to listen to Fabio Zuffanti - La Quarta Vittima. Album is brillant modern prog influenced by the 70s symphonic prog. I invite you guys to try at least the opener.

11.13.17 | It will be a hard tough for my Quarteto, indeed.
Do you all remember what I said on my comment about "Mathematical Mother"?
I wrote: "Damn, this is really a serious rival to my Quarteto."
It seams that I was right. It was really bad this direct confrontation between both albums, in this phase of the tounament, even for me. All of you know that I love "Mathematical Mother", too. I think both would be two perfect contentors as finalists. | Jethro42
11.13.17 | Yes I remember your statement about UTO, and it's the match I can't decide for. I will have to relisten to both albums to make a verdict. Both albums have great melodies, UTO is varied and generous, and Quarteto have all those captivating mellotron bursts. Ah well........ | e210013
11.13.17 | Yeah, tough decision, I know. I opted by Quarteto, mainly because, after so many years, is a classic album already. | Friday13th
11.14.17 | My tough decision is 801 or Todd. Really loved both of them. | MrSirLordGentleman
11.14.17 | I know you're a smart man, Friday | Frippertronics
11.14.17 | yeah, todd is the reasonable choice | Friday13th

11.14.17 | Todd's still awesome. One of the discoveries that I'm keeping from this tourney along with Formal Female, Two Isles and Stand By | Divaman
11.14.17 | >Yeah, tough decision, I know. I opted by Quarteto, mainly because, after so many years, is a classic album already.
I agree with you, e. Listening to UTO again as I type this, and it's going to be a tough call.
I was leaning one way this morning, now I'm leaning the other way. I'm soooooo confused! | TwigTW
11.14.17 | I didn't think anything could touch 801, but now I'm not sure which I'm voting for. Todd has really grown on me. | bgillesp
11.14.17 | 801 Todd was my toughest call too but Todd is more what I like | e210013
11.14.17 | @ Diva
In my opinion, if you are pragmatic, which mean that you use your brain first, you can vote on Quarteto. It passed the test of time already and is one of the best examples of the use of mellotron, which is, by excellence, the main prog instrument, by definition.
However, if you prefer chose a new album, clearly good but that didn't prove yet, its value in the history of prog, which mean you use your heart first, maybe you can vote on Universal Totem Orchestra.
For me, since I always was a very pragmatic and logical guy, I never hesitated between my brain and my soul. Anyway, I agree that it will be always a very tough decision for almost of you all.
| e210013
11.14.17 | About 801 and Todd, here is my point of view.
801 is a great live album with great tracks and with great artists. It's difficult to have in the same album such kind of artists and tracks. Todd is a very good album with great moments but that it's, somehow, a bit unballanced. It has some great moments and others not so great.
So, I think 801 is a better album, as a whole, than Todd. However, I have a small problem with 801. It's a live album without original tracks. Still, I continue thinking that 801 is a better album, as a whole. It's one of the greatest live albums from the 70's. | Divaman
11.14.17 | They're both new to me, e. I'll just be going on my own preference, and it's going to be close either way. | gagnonov
11.14.17 | i haven't listened to the others yet, but can i still vote 5 over 6? | Friday13th
11.14.17 | um...wait till you vote on all since it's easier to compare that way. | SCREAM!
11.14.17 | "i haven't listened to the others yet, but can i still vote 5 over 6?"
no but you can vote for 6 over 5, I'll allow it :3 | Jethro42
11.14.17 | 801
UTO
Garolou
Ingranaggi
Sorry e21, mate. It was extremely hard to make a decision. Quarteto is really a classic symphonic prog album with every ingredients to please. Emotional and sincere, I really enjoy listening to it. My only gripe is the lack of variety for a 30 minute album as Friday once said. UTO is an ecclectic prog album full of surprise and colours. There is a lot of work and it shows. If I had to bring with me one of these albums to a ''desert island'', I would keep with me both. | Friday13th

11.15.17 | I hope there's still hope for Quarteto. | bgillesp
11.15.17 | Bnelso and Jethro have the exact opposite taste as me | Jethro42
11.15.17 | I'm still not comfortable towards my choice between Quarteto and UTO, but now it's done.
@bgillesp; It's a part of the fun we can get :) | bgillesp
11.15.17 | Haha, yeah. I'm sad to see Todd and Slapp looking down so far but my fav is still Quarteto, so at least it is doing well | TwigTW
11.15.17 | At this point, I think the albums are all great . . . not so easy to choose. | MrSirLordGentleman
11.15.17 | If there's someone I expect to vote for 801 it is you Twig | TwigTW
11.15.17 | Yes, love that album, but Todd is growing on me. | bgillesp
11.15.17 | 6 and 4 were not ones I'll ever revisit after this comp. If I could've replaced those with Formal Female and Two Isles, that would be my top 8. | bgillesp
11.15.17 | Oh, and Flash! Two Isles would be my 9th favorite and Flash would make top 8. I have 9 4+ ratings though from here | TwigTW
11.15.17 | I might vote for 4. It's operatic vocals suck me right in, but I agree with 6. It's lovely, but it's not really my thing . . . I'm disappointed I can't vote for Heldon. That was one of my favorites. | Jethro42
11.15.17 | I love the way Garolou were using very old traditional folk songs and lyrics from the last few centuries and readjust, played them in a modern rock way with a progressive rock twist. Their first 3 albums are a good demonstration of it. It's good to relisten to them after couple of decades (I know them since they released their very best).
UTO is my best discovery of the tourney (I knew Quarteto before). I think one needs to get into Zeuhl to fully appreciate, but they have so much more to offer. Every songs have their magical segments that makes me toe-tapping.
| bgillesp
11.15.17 | Okay, gonna eat my words. UTO is really awesome, idk why I missed that in the discovery round. Quarteto is still my favorite but UTO may even be in my top 4 now | Friday13th
11.15.17 | Yeah, Mathematical Mother is a home run. I definitely need to check out UTO's first two albums also. | Divaman
11.15.17 | I'm ready to vote. (I'm in pain, but I'm ready to vote).
801
UTO
Garolou
Slapp/Cow
The UTO/Quarteto vote was as close to a tie for me as you could possibly get. In the end, I went with UTO because I like the vocals better, and I think the album is a little more varied. Hard to go against some of those beautiful synths and mellotrons in Quarteto, though. | Friday13th

11.15.17 | I'm scared for Quarteto. | Jethro42
11.15.17 | Same here. At first, I thought about cancelling that vote, it was that difficult to choose. | e210013
11.15.17 | Thanks for your support of Quarteto. I'm very glad that you both love the album so much as I do. | TwigTW
11.16.17 | I guess it's best to vote before Sputnik has its Friday breakdown.

11.16.17 | I've no doubts about it.

11.16.17 | This was a very tough decision. My problems were between Quarteto and Uto and with Slapp Happy/Henry Cow and Ingranaggi. But here is my decision:
801
Quarteto
Island
Ingranaggi
I am still a bit divided, but this is my final decision. | e210013
11.16.17 | It seems that there may still be some hope for Quarteto. | Friday13th
11.16.17 | 801: Sir, e21, Friday, Jethro, bnelso, Diva, Twig, SCREAM, Intruder

11.16.17 | a 801 vs Quarteto semis would make my brain explode | Friday13th
11.16.17 | 801 will win this match unless we get more voters than usual. Island has a solid lead, and the other two matches are dead heat. | e210013
11.16.17 | Yeah, it would be great. But it seems that only 801 has a secure place on it. | Jethro42
11.16.17 | ''My bet is the winner of the Quarteto/UTV match wins the tournament.''
Definitely. My attention is all focused on that match. I'm now convinced that my Fabio Zuffanti - La Quarta Vittima would have done a better nominate than IDV for this actual tourney. | e210013
11.16.17 | Don't give up. You see that IDV is in a good shape. It's with the same points of its rival. All is possible in this moment, dude.
But I'll promise to you that in Christmas time I'm going to listen to "La Quarta Vittima". You called my attention to it, definitely. | Jethro42
11.16.17 | By the way, you didn't mean UTV, Diva. It's more like UTO.
@e21, La Quarta Vittima is more accessible, and mellotron is present there too. There are interesting riffs and patterns, it's rocking hard, and some parts/songs will be stuck into your head, I promise you. | e210013
11.16.17 | I've no doubts. I'm also a great fan of Zuffanti. | Divaman
11.16.17 | Yeah, that, haha. Don't know where I got UTV from. | Jethro42
11.16.17 | @e21, I don't give up, but my main interest is towards Quarteto and UTO. I can't wait to see the winner, cos everything is played there. | e210013
11.16.17 | Yeah, I agree. But whatever the winner will be, we are really between a clash of titans. A great representant of the classic era of the 70's and a great representant of our days. This is really an undeniable fact. Two very different proposals, from different eras, but both with great quality. This is the beauty of prog. | bgillesp
11.16.17 | If UTO wins, I don't think it'll get my vote over any other potential winner unless IDV or Garolou somehow match against it | Sabrutin
11.16.17 | Todd
UTO
Island
Slapp Happy
It pains me to vote against Garolou but Island is my favorite album in the tournament so I have to. Also, between Quarteto and UTO I'm not completely sure but I decided to give my vote to UTO because after all Quarteto is already a revered classic! | Jethro42
11.16.17 | I agree with what you say, e21. It's a given that a modern prog album is able to rivalize with a classic prog album. We have the proof right here. The difference is that Quarteto stood well the test of time and UTO still has to prove itself over time.
My guess is that UTO is promising.

11.16.17 | shhhh it's a perfectly sound justification :X | Divaman
11.17.17 | My three favs of the tourny (other than my own nominee "Flash", which is an album I've loved for many years) have been Quarteto, UTO and Garolou. Looks like two of those three are going down this round. | Friday13th
11.17.17 | Elimination round is pretty brutal, getting four well-liked albums eliminated at once. | bgillesp
11.17.17 | Quarteto I have at 4.5, Slapp at 4.3, Flash and Todd at 4.1. | Jethro42

11.17.17 | Happy progday! There are three votes left: Spaceman, Cusman and Mythodea. | TwigTW
11.17.17 | three... then Island and 801 shouldn't end up in a tie, nice. | Friday13th
11.17.17 | right, 801 and Island have it made in the shade. | TwigTW
11.17.17 | Honestly, when I entered Island, I had my doubts about it getting past its first match-up. It's a little... different. I'm glad to see people liking it as much as I do. | bgillesp
11.17.17 | Quarteto is still alive... | e210013

Looks like 801, UTO (!!!), and Island have it wrapped up. The Slapp and IDV match is still too close to call. | Jethro42
11.17.17 | @e21, don't be too disappointed. The real game was played around your Quarteto and UTO. The winner was arguably assured to win the tournament, so, in my book, you are the second winner. That was a good battle. All like some contestants,I will always revisit Quarteto and Jose Cid stuff. Long live classic prog of the 70s! | Divaman
11.17.17 | Agreed. The margin for my vote was razor thin for UTO. But you influenced me to go out and buy Quarteto 1111 for myself. | e210013
11.17.17 | No problem Jethro. No hard feelings. As you said, the real game was played around my Quarteto and UTO. And besides that, "Mathematical Mother" was one of the two albums that impresses more in this tournament. The other was "Island". So, as you can see, besides Quarteto, I've my two greatest surprises in the next round. And your "Warm Spaced Blue", my third best surprise wasn't defeated yet.
But above all, my main objective was achieved, dig up the album from the dust of time and bring it, and Cid, to the light of the day, a bit more.
Long life to the classic prog era of the 70s. | e210013
11.17.17 | Great Diva. I'm very flattered with it. Cheers, buddy. | Friday13th
11.17.17 | @Divaman nice! Did you get it on CD or vinyl? | e210013
11.17.17 | I think on CD. I'm not sure if is any vinyl new copy is available now. I'm a lucky guy. I've a vinyl copy bought in the 70's and a CD copy bought some years ago. | Friday13th
11.17.17 | @e21 nice! Seems like there are some vinyl reissues when I search on ebay, but the original looks like a fairly rare vinyl. | bgillesp
11.17.17 | Aww. Well Slapp and Island are my next two choices | Friday13th
11.17.17 | Well...we're at a stand-still until Spaceman or Cusman show up. | Divaman
11.18.17 | On CD. I haven't had any equipment on which to play vinyl for many years. | Friday13th
11.18.17 | CD's are still good. I only buy used vinyls, since you can get great deals at bargain stores. I'd be extremely lucky to find a Portuguese import, though! | TheSpaceMan
11.18.17 | Todd Rundgren
Quartelo 1111

11.18.17 | Slapp and IDV is neck and neck! Looks like Cusman is going to make the call. | Divaman
11.18.17 | I've actually purchased a number of CDs, based on this tournament. I bought both the Quarteto and UTO, and since the Garolou album isn't available on CD, I bought a live album of theirs instead. I already owned IDV, based on Jethro's rec to me a few months ago, and of course I owned Flash. And I've downloaded a few of the songs I've liked best from some of the other albums (including, some Todd). So the tournament has been a windfall of musical discovery for me. | SCREAM!
11.18.17 | I always hope I'll stumble across some of these tourney albums on vinyl as I've been collecting old prog records for a while now but given how little known they are that never seems to happen :(
Only own a few on my own recs (Garolou, Greenslade and Maneige from previous tourneys) | Friday13th
11.18.17 | Yeah, you're best off buying these online. | SCREAM!
11.18.17 | That takes away the fun of the hunt though
Although I might eventually bite for some of my favourites (assuming I don't have to give up an arm and a leg to get them) | Friday13th
11.18.17 | Yeah, I do like to hunt, but some you can't reasonably expect to find. Of albums in these tourneys, I had found two of my own picks (Universe Zero on CD and It's a Beautiful Day on vinyl), and then later found Triumvirat and Utopia. Very few. It's not like trying complete your Yes and Jethro Tull collection, but it may very well depend where you live. | SCREAM!
11.18.17 | Oh right, I have seen Utopia a few times but still have yet to really grow into Rungdren so I passed on that one for the time being.
Triumvirat would be a great find though! | CusmanX1
11.18.17 | I'm perennially late, sorry again guys. My choiches are: 1, 3, 6, 7 | CusmanX1
11.18.17 | It seems that Quarteto won't pass this round, imo here it's the best by far | Friday13th
11.18.17 | 801: Sir, e21, Friday, Jethro, bnelso, Diva, Twig, SCREAM, Intruder, Cusman

(10-7)
Quarteto: bgillesp, UU, Sir, e21, Fripp, Intruder, Spaceman, Cusman
UTO: Friday, Jethro, bnelso, Diva, Twig, SCREAM, Sabrutin, wham, Mythodea
(8-9)
Island: bgillesp, Sir, e21, Fripp, Friday, Twig, Intruder, Sabrutin, wham, Mythodea, Spaceman
Garolou: UU, Jethro, bnelso, Diva, SCREAM, Cusman
(11-6)

IDV: Sir, e21, Friday, Jethro, bnelso, Intruder, Mythodea, Spaceman
(9-8)
Well there you have it, folks. Island and 801 win comfortably, but UTO and Slapp win by the narrowest margins! Vote over. | Jethro42
11.18.17 | I would have preferred to be beaten by any other nominee but this one :/ | SCREAM!
11.18.17 | As chance would have it, a local record store was running a sale and I happened to stumble upon 4 Triumvirat albums. Pretty great coincidence haha | Jethro42
11.18.17 | Illusions on a Double Dimple, Spartacus, Mediterranean Tales and Old Loves Die Hard are all essentials Triumvirat (in that order) | SCREAM!
11.18.17 | Got illusions, spartacus, old love and Pompeii. I saw that Pompeii is a little lower rated on here but it was $4 so figured I'd risk it
Got two Octobre records along with that so all in all a great haul | Jethro42
11.18.17 | I have to give other spins to Pompei
You can't go wrong with any Octobre album (the last one to a lesser extent). I own L'Autoroute des Rêves,
Live - Chants Dans La Nuit
and the compilation album 1972-1989 | SCREAM!
11.18.17 | I got Survivance and Les nouvelles terres :) i actually considered choosing Survivance for this tourney before ultimately settling on Garolou instead | Friday13th
11.18.17 | @SCREAM haha nice, fate is smiling upon your prog addiction! | Jethro42
11.18.17 | Yes, Survivance has a bunch of classic songs, same for Les Nouvelles Terres. I think that Octobre are a hit or miss for many people, and it's much easier to get into Garolou.
Les Nouvelles Terres loses meat near the end, but it might be better than Survivance imo. L'Autoroute Des Rêves and the debut album are worth a purchase too, but the compilation is pretty much complete too. Here is the link for Chants Dans La Nuit; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CnTi7MrpZq4 | Jethro42
11.18.17 | Chants Dans La Nuit has the best version of ''L'Oiseau Rouge'' ever. Take a flight, try it!... | SCREAM!
11.18.17 | This is actually my first listen to Nouvelles Terres. I'd heard Survivance before through a friend's dad who had the record. I'm liking Terres so far but I think I still prefer Survivance by a slight margin. I'll check out that link, I'm intrigued to hear this version of l'oiseau rouge! | e210013
11.18.17 | Ok. It's all over on this round. I'm very happy with my Quarteto. When UTO defeated Heldon, which is for me a great album, it was 11-0. My Quarteto was defeated only by one vote, it was 8-9, against the same opositor. So, despite the defeat, excellent performance indeed. It was against, probably, the future winer of the tournament. It was really an epic fight. | Friday13th
11.18.17 | ^ yeah haha good point | Jethro42
11.18.17 | @e21; Long live Quarteto. You came close to the ultimate victory. It was heads or tails, really.
@SCREAM, Survivance is a fantastic album. ''En Famille'' and 'L'Oiseau Rouge'' are my faves. Les Nouvelles Terres has the title track and ''Violence''. I'm on an Octobre binge, thanks to you :D | TwigTW
11.18.17 | I agree. The Quarteto/UTO was a tough one... |
