The Infected Mass
Another grower, happened upon this one by virtue of it being on the Constellation label, which is very often its own testimonial. Those looking for a lot of melody will be disappointed, but damn if this thing doesn't pack mood and atmosphere in spades, with its drones and tragic-yet-plainspoken word parts (the context of which I only recently learned, via a Sputnik soundoff) cohering into a disarming, potentially upsetting, but ultimately altogether flooring listening experience. | | 6 |  | Redshift Pilots
Moonlight Synthesis
Another Sputnik-inspired discovery, a pretty interesting sound that reveals new intricacies upon each re-listening. Seen it labelled elsewhere online as blackgaze, which is a stretch at best and really just demonstrates how meaningless a lot of genre labels become with time, but the featuring of blackened portions intermingled with a particularly melodic post-hardcore vibe and some frankly beautiful instrumental interludes makes for a very interesting and diverse listening experience. Latest addition, purely by virtue of the Redshift guest spot/endorsement. Digging it well enough so far, but definitely need to give a few more listens before I decide how I really feel, since some of it seems a bit rote. | |
