Top 10 Favorite Albums of 2017
We all know who these kinds of lists work. I'll be doing a "Top 10 Most disappointing/ worst albums of 2017" list later in the week. If you know any albums that you think I would dig that I might of missed this year comment feel free to comment below. Also feel free to call me a fucking loser with shit music taste |
1 | | Flogging Molly Life Is Good
Honorable Mention:
Flogging Molly have been putting great Celtic Punk/ Folk Punk albums for years, and "Life Is Good" is no exception. Wasn't strong enough to make my list though.
Favorite Track: Hand of John L. Sullivan |
2 | | Marilyn Manson Heaven Upside Down
Honorable Mention:
Manson seems to be getting back on track ever since he put out "Pale Emperor" back in 2015, good for him. I really enjoyed this album but its been kinda losing replay value for some tracks. I also Marilyn a fast recovery since he got raped by a giant stage prop.
Favorite Track: Blood Honey |
3 | | Neck Deep The Peace And The Panic
Honorable Mention:
With the current state of Pop Punk not being exactly.... well "great" these past few years, I'm happy to see bands like Neck Deep and The Wonder Years keeping it going. While I probably prefer some of Neck Deeps earlier work compared to this album I still really enjoyed it.
Favorite Track: The Grand Delusion |
4 | | Motorhead Under Cover
Honorable Mention:
Yeah I know its a compilation of Cover Songs, Blow me.
Goddamn I miss Lemmy.
Favorite Track: Heroes (David Bowie), Rockaway Beach (The Ramones) |
5 | | Rancid Trouble Maker
#10.
Rancid return from their disappointing 2014 effort "Honor is All We Know" with in my opinion their best stuff since the "Red Hot Moon" days. From tracks like "Ghost of a chance" with Tim Armstrong is in with his signature raspy lovable vocal work, and "Telegraph Avenue" where Lars is able to back him up with his fantastic guitar work. And don't even get me started on Matt Freeman (The Best Bassist in Punk Rock history.) A good mix of the signature Ska/ Punk/ Skate Punk sound that Rancid have crafted over the years.
Favorite Track: Farewell Lola Blue. |
6 | | Hot water Music Light it Up
#9.
Hot Water Music is a band that I've never been huge on but I've definitely still enjoyed them enough to give them a listen every time they put out something new. Light it Up is a great album filled with everything you could want from the title track that has a early 90s Bad Religion like sound (Which is great if you're a BR fanboy like me) to darker songs like "Sympathizer."
Favorite Track: Rabbit Key |
7 | | Goldfinger The Knife
#8.
First off Yes this album sounds ALOT like "California" from Blink 182 with the production of it. But the question for me is, who cares? I was one of the few people that absolutely loved that record and digged the fun vibe that it gave. This album is to me basically "California" with some Ska tunes mixed in. From tracks like "Get what I need" and "Who's laughing Now" that are incredibly catchy Ska Tracks to more Pop Punk like songs "Am I Deaf" and "Orthodontist Girl" I had a blast listening to this.
Favorite Track: Who's laughing Now |
8 | | GBH Momentum
#7.
GBH has been around since 1978 and put put nearly a dozen records since then and this stacks up to most of their best Imo. GBH provide everything you would expect from them staying true to their Punk Roots with blazing fast songs like the title track "Momentum" while also slightly experimenting with "Liquid Paradise" and "Fifty What." If you're into classic punk you should definitely check this out.
Favorite Track: Momentum |
9 | | Blink-182 California (Deluxe Edition)
#6.
Can this be considered a new album? I mean I know its a deluxe edition of a previous one, but it has over 16 new so.... Whatever I'm still counting it. Like I said before I absolutely loved "California" when it came out in 2016 and when I found out their was even more still to come I was stoked. The album seems to feature more "experimental" or "different" kinds of songs like "Bottom Of The Ocean", "6/8", and "Hey I'm Sorry" while also having the same fast pop punk tracks Blink is more known for like "Parking Lot" and "Wildfire" and "Misery" that could easily fit on a TOYAP era Blink record. All in all if you hated California, you more than likely hate the Deluxe Edition. But if you liked it, then you loved this.
Favorite Track: Misery |
10 | | Paramore After Laughter
#5.
After Laughter is a perfect pop rock album. Paramore who had been more known for their "Emo/Pop Punk" sound in the mid to late 2000's showed a slight change in their self titled release in 2013 (Which is my Fav Paramore Record) and it came to completion with After Laughter. "Hard Times" may be the song of 2017 for me. The album is easily Paramore most sincere, catchy, and ambitious effort to date and it shows.
Favorite Track: Rose Colored Boy |
11 | | Creeper Eternity, In Your Arms
#4.
Creepers debut LP is extremely strong with tracks like "Poison Pins" bringing out the gloomy lyricism that the band is capable of and "Black Reign" showing their Early AFI/ Misfits vibe with strong guitar and drum work. I can't wait to see more from this band and I hope they stick around for awhile.
Favorite Track: Poison Pins |
12 | | The Menzingers After the Party
#3.
The most upbeat album with the most depressing lyrics you'll find out their. Heart wrenching, Thoughtful, Relatable. Just some of the words I can think of to describe The Menzingers "After The Party." This album is able to connect with you in a way like being in your early 30s and still having no sign of a girlfriend or true calling in life or feeling like you've fucked up every relationship you've ever had. I would highly recommend giving this album a spin if you haven't.
Favorite Track: Lookers |
13 | | Propagandhi Victory Lap
#2.
Propagandhi have always been a very strong Punk unit ever since their 1993 debut "How to clean everything" and they continue the consistency of great music with "Victory Lap." Right from the start you know what you're in for with the pounding opener title track "Victory Lap" continued by other gems like "Cops Just out of Frame" and "When all your fears collide." An album filled with Thrash like Drumming and Politically charged lyrics are some of the backbone of this record and how enjoyable it is. If you're ever angry about a certain man who's last name rhymes with "Dump" or read an article about how much the world is a shitstorm right now, maybe this album can cool you down.
Favorite Track: Victory Lap |
14 | | 88 Fingers Louie Thank You For Being A Friend
#1.
When 88 Fingers Louie announced that they were releasing their first album in nearly TWO DECADES, I was ecstatic to say the least. When I think my taste in music and what I love I always think of the following... Loud, fast, in your face instrumentals with Drums going 100 mph, Catchy relatable lyrics, and melodic vocals. Thats what "Thank You for Being a Friend" is all about. It in composes everything I love about Punk Rock/ Skate Punk. I felt like I was 15 riding on my bike when I listened to this for the first time. I absolutely loved this record and the nostalgia trip that I got with it.
Favorite Track: ALL OF THEM. |
