| Reign of Angels, The Basals, Funhouse
This is one of those lists that's probably only of interest to me, but what the hell. Saw a trio of '80s-influenced '90s bands tonight, with a focus on The Basals, one of my favorite bands from the late '90s. They're an alternative band that features a female lead vocalist with a kind of raspy, kind of trilly voice. A couple of their albums are up on Spotify and YouTube, although their first album, "Dive", which might be their best, is not. Both of the surrounding bands, Reign of Angels and Funhouse, had a very Echo and the Bunnymen/Psychedelic Furs vibe, and featured Sean Crusher from the punk band Jones Crusher as a supporting musician. | 1 | | The Basals Dive | 2 | | The Basals The Basals | 3 | | The Basals Kingpin | 4 | | The Basals Songs from Suburban Ave. | 5 | | Jones Crusher Blue Collar Stories | |

03.23.19 | This was kind of a nostalgia trip for my wife and I, as her old band played with The Basals a bunch of times. On the off chance that it means anything to anyone, the setlist is up at https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/the-basals/2019/katies-of-smithtown-smithtown-ny-1b93bd54.html, and there will be a full write up on my blog (longislandmusicguy.blogspot.com) by tomorrow. |
