| Nocte's Q1 2021
By now I imagine you've seen a few of these. Who knows...maybe you'll see a few more. Anyways, here are my picks from the first quarter of the year. Criteria is basically 4/5's or higher. Recs welcome, encouraged and invited. | 1 | | Ad Nauseam Imperative Imperceptible Impulse
If this doesn't feature on a number of end of year lists come December then we're all in trouble. III is mind-blowingly good and transcendent of death metal in this modern age. There's nothing quite like it out there. Potential album of the year entries hitting in February, goddamn.
https://adnauseam-official.bandcamp.com/releases | 2 | | Krallice Demonic Wealth
Vocals next to a swamp. bass recorded, drums on a phone - Demonic Wealth sounds ridiculous on paper but massive in a set of speakers.
https://krallice.bandcamp.com/album/demonic-wealth | 3 | | Blindfolded And Led To The Woods Nightmare Withdrawals
Death metal from across the ditch. Covid didn't slow these guys down. Instead they enlisted the help of Nile and Spook The Horses members to create a darting, swirling and massive progressive death record al a Ulcerate, Pyrrhon and Gorguts.
https://balttw.bandcamp.com/album/nightmare-withdrawals | 4 | | Dvne Etemen Ænka
Probably artwork of the year? But this album is massive to boot. It didn't help that this album is so good it took the gloss off a lot of new albums this year.
https://songs-of-arrakis.bandcamp.com/ | 5 | | Cryptosis Bionic Swarm
Technically this was Notrap's find and aren't we all glad. There's a reason why this found it's way onto the Best New Music slot. Modern thrash that doesn't suck. I kid you not.
https://youtu.be/bUCb0nnjTwQ | 6 | | Stargazer (AUS) Psychic Secretions
It feels good to represent a little home-grown music on these lists. Stargazer's newest came around the same time as that Ad Nauseam release and while merging blackened and deathly attributes together its quite the entity by itself. Add some awesome artwork and you've got yourself a stunning February release.
https://stargazeraustralia.bandcamp.com/album/psychic-secretions | 7 | | Rob Zombie The Lunar Injection Kool Aid Eclipse Conspiracy
I'm probably in the minority, but this is the type of album that makes me want to see live shows again.
https://robzombie.com/lunar-injection/ | 8 | | Iotunn Access All Worlds
I don't know why, but I haven't seen a lot of buzz on this album and Sowing, if you're out there - add this to your "metal digs" list. If you liked that Wilderun release (Veil Of Imagination) this should tick a lot of those boxes.
https://iotunn.bandcamp.com/album/access-all-worlds | 9 | | Empyrium Über den Sternen
Dark folk, black metal, mysticism. Art that looks like it came fresh off a Harry Potter novel. Yeah jam this now.
https://empyrium.bandcamp.com/album/ber-den-sternen | 10 | | Chaos Echoes Ecstasy With the Nonexistents
This one is a bit of a curve ball for me and definitely fits into that avant garde territory. It takes the live setting of a 2018 variety and refits it into a blackened, deathly and experimental fashion.
https://chaosechoes.bandcamp.com/album/ecstasy-with-the-nonexistents | 11 | | The Ruins Of Beverast The Thule Grimoires
This one came out so early in the year I feel like a few guys may have left it behind. Which is really unfair?
https://theruinsofbeverast.bandcamp.com/album/the-thule-grimoires | 12 | | Cult Of Luna The Raging River
I thought I'd include a couple of EPs because why not and of course the sheer caliber of Cult Of Luna. Seriously can these guys do no wrong?
https://cultofluna.bandcamp.com/album/the-raging-river | 13 | | Turris Eburnea Turris Eburnea
While death metal seems to be running rampart this year, a few of the EPs are naturally being left behind. Still if you're at all into the expressive, expansive and huge releases that have blown the internet away these past few years you should probably give this 20 minute EP a go.

03.31.21 | Just some albums for listening and such. | rage11111ro
03.31.21 | 1 and 11 are indeed very good. I need to check 13 | Dewinged
03.31.21 | A couple in here I gotta check, Iotumm and Stargazer. Surprised to see Rob Zombie there, I discarded it without much thought but maybe I should check it out. | Sabrutin
03.31.21 | 1 is def going to be in my year list yeah. Need to check 2. Also need to check Iotunn but I heard they changed singer, bummer because the EP was cool. Will prob peep more entries | TheNotrap
03.31.21 | You reminded me that I haven't yet rated Ad Nauseam. I'll check #3 today | Gnocchi
03.31.21 | Best look at adjusting that good sir! | DDDeftoneDDD
03.31.21 | Iotunn is the most "you love and I hate" thing on here lol...I'm wearing off on #1 just a bit tbqh and I've been listening to it, so it's a fresh statement. | Gnocchi
03.31.21 | I've been returning to it when I can, it seems to be holding up. I don't see too much of a fluctuation by year's end. | DDDeftoneDDD
03.31.21 | I mean, there's a "this is the only thing that matters" attitude around it annoying af, and I know its kind of their drill, but the record gets some stretches I tried to ignore from the start, where they seem to be purely going each one randomly - not communicating at all, or those overly long "zoning out" sections...I def enjoy much more their debut and I think I should mark that, but also much more acts like Imperial Triumph and Gorguts etc. Still an awesome experience, the production and sound are still fuckin incredible. A 4 can be more fitting for me at this point. | Gnocchi
03.31.21 | Which I guess in the greater scope of things is all fair enough. | Gnocchi
03.31.21 | Maybe try looking at #13 DDD | Deez
03.31.21 | Love Chaoes echoes and been waiting on my delayed shipping of that album for about 2 months so holding out.
1 is obviously 1 and krallice will be up there.
Havent sat down with The new DVNE yet properly.
More importantly how do you guys who end lists with odd numbers sleep at night??
Dunno if you checked the new DSKNT or Aberration but both are great. | DDDeftoneDDD
03.31.21 | "Maybe try looking at #13 DDD" yeah I mean, read my "brilliant" soundoff | Gnocchi
03.31.21 | I meant if you're falling off Ad Nauseam, a little change breaker? (not the "you haven't heard it" type rec) | Gnocchi
03.31.21 | --guys who end lists with odd numbers sleep at night??--
Like a kitty-kat | DDDeftoneDDD
03.31.21 | oh sure, gotcha, yeah, def the same vibe! loved it too!
| Deez
03.31.21 | 'Like a kitty-kat'
hahahaha Honstly it eats at me. I dunno why. For the 3 people who see it? Ill wake up in the morning and have to round it out. OCD or some shit | DDDeftoneDDD
03.31.21 | 13 tho, its a number | garas
03.31.21 | Very m/ of you. I felt surprisingly hooked by that Cryptosis album, one of the best positive surprises of the year so far. | Gnocchi
03.31.21 | 13 is indeed a number | Deez
03.31.21 | 'allegedly' | DDDeftoneDDD
03.31.21 | Yeah, some wild minds may even give it mystical significances.
Anyway, been jamming 3. Riffs a ton! | Gnocchi
03.31.21 | For someone literally born on a black Friday, I hold no superstitions about the number. | dmathias52
04.08.21 | Ok was knocked out from the covid vaccine yesterday, so doing my death metal dive today. Seems like DVNE has a lot of love from a lot of people - So here I go! | someone
04.08.21 | that's plenty of metal alright.
