Favorite releases of 2021
Looking at my lists, I realized I didn't do my top records of 2020, but that year didn't exist did it? Anyways, here my list of stuff I loved in 2021, in no particular order. It's also in alphabetical order, since I use a smart Playlist from Itunes to know what was released in 2021. |
1 | | Aorlhac Pierres Brûlées
I actually discovered this band with this record. It's full of energy and pride of the Auvergne region of France. Thanks to Dany Tee from Los Males Del Mundo (and many more) for sharing this band! |
2 | | Blaze Bayley War Within Me
I wasn't getting into his last records but this one felt fun and good. A classical Blaze bayley record to be honest, I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoyed his records. |
3 | | Chevelle NIRATIAS
Chevelle being Chevelle, a 3.5 band as described here! |
4 | | Darkthrone Eternal Hails
Now this one got me through some long driving hours. Loved the doom sound that this record has. |
5 | | Der Weg Einer Freiheit Noktvrn
Again, thanks to Dany Tee for sharing this band. I haven't listened to their previous releases yet but this one is particularly good in its genre. |
6 | | Djevel Tanker som rir natten
I'm not sure how I found about this one, probably Dany Tee or Lys (Enisum) but this is probably one of my most listened of mid 2021. I highly recommend this record to any fan of Atmos BM. |
7 | | Dream Theater A View From The Top Of The World
Now I'm not too much of a DT fan (used to be though) BUT, this record was fun to listen to. It had some awesome solos and composition. |
8 | | Gojira Fortitude
A Gojira release always has an impact on me and this record did too. I always loved the lyrics, the unique sound and the amazing creativity of Mario. This one is softer than their beginnings but I liked it in its own genre, wherever you feel it fits. |
9 | | Jinjer Wallflowers
Talent. That's all I hear. Sometimes it isn't sufficient though, it feels like they are in a safe zone, but at times they get creative. I love the ending of Pearls and Swine. |
10 | | Los Males Del Mundo Descent Towards Death
Dany + Nikita Kamprad from Der Weg Einer Freiheit, what can go wrong? Absolutely nothing. Hell of a record! I actually reviewed this here:

11 | | Massilia Sound System Sâle Caractère
Occitan (South of France) Ragga from masters of the genre. Didn't disappoint! |
12 | | Mastodon Hushed and Grim
I was a bit skeptical when I heard the single but listening to the whole record blew my mind. One of my favorite of this year! |
13 | | Me And That Man New Man, New Songs, Same Shit Vol. 1
This one and Vol2 are great Dark Folk (or whatever this genre is) records. Loved it from the start to the end! |
14 | | Neil Young Carnegie Hall 1970
Neil Young, live, in 1970. What can go wrong? Nothing, and nothing did. Great record! |
15 | | Opprobre Fragments de Destinées
Second offering from French atmospheric BM band. Lots of maturity in this record, it didn't disappoint! |
16 | | Vallendusk Heralds of Strife
As always, awesome record! Loved the change of voice in this one, lot more raw! |
