03.19.23 | Tundra, why do you seem to go about self-flagellating on here? Can't be healthy. |
Sinternet
03.19.23 | i mean your attitude towards mild criticism is probably why people neg your reviews
regardless, if you want to actually improve (beyond this weak attempt at sarcasm), your reviews suffer from both an overabundance of personal inserts and a general lack of interesting angle. your reviews just read like a long comment on a better reviews thread, its mostly "this is what the band did last time, i like/dislike this album, it sounds like this, thinly veiled track by track" and so on. it technically meets the criteria of a 'review' but it doesn't say anything that draws in the reader's attention. your vocabulary is a little one-dimensional and you write in first person way too much. the reviews you write don't attempt to extrapolate beyond very entry-level artistic analysis, they are very mechanical and unfun to read because of it. not that i'm saying you should copy them, but look at staff writers and how they review albums, if you want examples of what i think are really well-written reviews let me know.
i could go on, but i'm not here to roast your writing or just say you're bad or whatever, because whilst you have some terrible music opinions that should be the basis for some really interesting and engaging reviews. but you desperately need to stop acting insecure and whiny like this, because people (including myself) will jump at you for a quick lol |
Tundra
03.19.23 | have you ever liked a review I made |
Sinternet
03.19.23 | i mean idk about liked but a few of them are competent (outside of the widespread grammatical issues). here's three i think are decent outside of grammar
inferi - vile genesis
erra - erra
bulb - moderately fast, adequately furious
these are mostly better because they attempt to actualy analyse the prokjects rather than reading like a 2006 livejournal entry |

03.19.23 | My man, I've tried reaching out to you, as have many others, but you insist upon pulling the same defensive stuff or sulking whenever there's a slight disagreement. In terms of your writing efforts, there's a long line of users here that would absolutely be down to help you out if you wanted to improve your writing, but when you consistently ignore criticism while dropping clearly unfinished reviews, the shtick gets tiring. And the way you ignore that criticism (hurling insults, immediately launching several self-deprecating comments, etc.) turns folks away.
Being a good writer, for me, means being humble, open and accepting of criticism, and patient; don't pull the trigger on a review too quickly. Let it marinate, check it even after someone else has. Make sure your points are coherent, no mistakes are still left, all that jazz,
You can't push the community away consistently and cry wolf when you receive a negative reaction. You can always DM someone, including me. Shoot me a Drive link or something and let's get to work. You can do it! Believe in yourself and be open to different perspectives. |

03.19.23 | Oh my days and I thought I was bad with criticism |
Tundra
03.19.23 | since I'm extremely slow let's just start with a soundoff, for Empyrean by Fallujah
"While I admire Fallujah for retreating back to their tried and true sound after the extremely polarizing Undying Light (and I think it was the right move for them to go), I still have issues with Empyrean (and this hurts me because they are one of my favorite bands ever). While technical and intricate, the riffs feel very dime a dozen for their standards at this point, recycling the same ideas ad nauseum until the record's conclusion. The vocals are extremely middling, his lows are extremely meh, and his mids are simply fine, nothing more. I am aware of a renowned bassist who provides duties on this record, unfortunately, he barely stands out in any of the tracks, can't name a single section that's worthy of note in all honesty. The lead guitar phrasing is always going to be great as Scott Carstairs is such a phenomenal player, he is consistently a shining highlight in all of their albums. Overall while having a fair bit to offer, Empyrean is a far cry from the band's most illustrious works The Flesh Prevails, and Dreamless"
how's that |
pizzamachine
03.19.23 | ^that’s an improvement |
DocSportello
03.19.23 | undeniably. keep challenging yourself |
Sinternet
03.20.23 | that soundoff is fine, but try to avoid first-person when doing actual reviews, the reader isn't interested in you (usually), they're interested in the album |
Purpl3Spartan
03.20.23 | (2) Anecdotes only work if their brief, self-contained (meaning it doesn't keep popping up throughout the review), and truly tie into your review in a meaningful and engaging way. Best not go there by default |
Tundra
03.20.23 | "While admiration for Fallujah can be had for retreating back to their tried and true sound after the extremely polarizing Undying Light (and it was the right move to go), it's certainly not a perfect outing. While technical and intricate, the riffs feel very dime a dozen for their standards at this point, recycling the same ideas ad nauseum until the record's conclusion. The vocals are extremely middling, his lows are extremely meh, and his mids are simply fine, nothing more. Renowned bassist Evan Brewer joins the fold for this record though unfortunately, he barely stands out in any of the tracks with a minuscule of sections even worth of note. The lead guitar phrasing is always going to be great as Scott Carstairs is such a phenomenal player, he is consistently a shining highlight in all of their albums. Overall while having a fair bit to offer, Empyrean is a far cry from the band's most illustrious works The Flesh Prevails, and Dreamless." |

03.20.23 | What makes the vocals middling? |
Tundra
03.20.23 | New vocalist Kyle Schaefer doesnt do much to impress regarding any vocal technique, whether it be his low growl, mid growl, or high shriek. Comparatively, old vocalist Alex Hofmann while his strength was mainly the low guttural, it impresses more than Kyle's middling performance regarding all fronts |
Mort.
03.20.23 | if you want something to do, i gave feedback for your entire shrezzers review, so you could go and fix it up |
Tundra
03.20.23 | the damage has already been done, but I guess I can fix it |
Mort.
03.20.23 | the damage in what regard? if you mean because of the negs just ignore them. improving as a writer and being happy with your own work is whats important, not peoples first reaction to your work |
