Butkuiss
03.19.24 | Are you @ing me pizza
Mainly because I only generally find myself in threads already in the “My Discussions” tab. It’s a self fulfilling oroborous. |
Sharenge
03.19.24 | sometimes I listen to a new album, but eventually it just becomes the same album |
JDubb
03.19.24 | The vast majority of active music listeners ultimately settle down within a genre and a time, and tend to stay there. Was at a campfire this weekend - and dude was playing early 2000 era post grunge (e.g., Cold, Evans Blue, Earshot, etc.). Hadn't heard these songs in ~1 to 2 decades, but for him it was "fresh". For me, not as much (in some part due to Sputnik and always searching for a new sound). But also - tend to get crickets in responses/comments when you put up the lesser known bands - and much more Sputnik involvement with the more mainstream, but extreme bands. Case in point - an Opeth list. |
ConcubinaryCode
03.19.24 | I literally can't get over talking about Jane Doe, we need like 1000 more pages talking about how Concubine goes so fkn hard like damn whoa. You ever hear about it? Crazy
Also you ever post on an album that had like 2 pages and the last comment was in like 2011? Shit sucks |
Sharenge
03.19.24 | not if you're a necromancer |
Demon of the Fall
03.19.24 | I comment on dead threads all the time
unsurprisingly, you don't get much back but I do it in hope rather than expectation (and sometimes simply for my own ref).
who doesn't love a good quadruple post spread over 3 years or something |
WretchedCacophony
03.19.24 | ^^^ this lol |
Egarran
03.19.24 | Well do you have a guess as to why? Don't be coy, I believe you have a suspicion of the reason that ties in to a fundamental human quality. |
pizzamachine
03.19.24 | Why yes, this list is entirely tongue in cheek |
ConcubinaryCode
03.19.24 | We should bump dead threads agreed |
AnimalForce1
03.19.24 | "But also - tend to get crickets in responses/comments when you put up the lesser known bands"
As someone with a very weird taste in music and a love for some very niche bands, I am fully used to some of my reviews having only one or two comments, and said comments being my own lmao
Also, @pizza, what'd you think of the Turbulence album? I've been meaning to check them, haven't gotten around to it |
pizzamachine
03.19.24 | The Turbulence album is quite nice, though too many instrumentals |
ArsMoriendi
03.19.24 | Glad someone said it
As much as I love Pet Sounds, Kid A+other Radiohead, Hounds of Love etc it gets boring to circle jerk the same few albums over and over |
Demon of the Fall
03.19.24 | Yep. I barely comment in threads for some albums I do enjoy, because they're seemingly on the front page 24/7 (thinking of a few prominent metal-related ones in particular)
Radiohead is also boring to talk about |
pizzamachine
03.19.24 | The art of variety is lost 😵 |

03.20.24 | It's kinda cool that as life goes on sput is always in the time trap. Drop in and see the same arguments that go nowhere then move on with your day. Long live sput |
Butkuiss
03.20.24 | I also find a lot of albums I have on rotation week to week don’t have reviews — and I do not have the time to review all of them! |
pizzamachine
03.20.24 | Good ol Sput |

03.20.24 | pizzamachine how have you been man? i hope you've been doing well. can i have my family back please |

03.20.24 | I don't know about y'all but I've been listening to Kid A recently and wow it is just so much better than Pablo Honey. Does anyone else agree?? Respond if you like Real Music |
gabba
03.20.24 | There’s not much else really worth talking about tbh. I mean music, not radiohead, obviously. |
Storm In A Teacup
03.20.24 | "We should bump dead threads agreed"
Other than me, pizza, and parks 😔 |

03.21.24 | True, Pram are really good. I've been really getting into "Legendary Band From Venus". They have a unique, exciting vibe. |
pizzamachine
03.21.24 | They’re no Ra |
myri14
03.21.24 | Maybe I should check Ra out then, I'll give From One a shot! |
Demon of the Fall
03.21.24 | "Bump Pram threads"
I 'triple posted' at one point in your Helium review thread, a couple of months apart too, lol |
AsleepInTheBack
03.21.24 | I like real music and also believe that Kid A is better than Pablo Honey does that mean we are now friends |
Demon of the Fall
03.21.24 | nah, only if you think it's better than The Bends, this is the acid 'introductory' test. I am highly suspicious of those who mess that one up ngl |
VlacDrac
03.21.24 | Something something Jane Doe sucks ass due to the unlistenable vocals and White Pony is the greatest album ever made. |
Storm In A Teacup
03.22.24 | I dont do this. I find a new album to comment on every day. I am the Sputnikmusic Champion. |
pizzamachine
03.22.24 | There’s only one way to Sputnik |
Storm In A Teacup
03.22.24 | And then theres the champ |
gabba
03.22.24 | So what’s about this thingy that sputnik is dying I read somewhere? Sure, it must have been better in the old days (dunno, but looks like everything was), but it still seems pretty lively around here, with some self-proclaimed champs and alike. |
Demon of the Fall
03.22.24 | I'm here to put the work in of 5 occasional users to make up the difference. It's a thankless task. I will even poison my own 'subscribe' list by making unnecessary comments for albums I will never talk about again, lol (although I've heard if you don't comment for a while they disappear from your convos, hmm... is this true?)
Yeah, probably less people overall, idk about the data. There's still a core group of users who comment a lot and thus keep things ticking over |
gabba
03.22.24 | "I'm here to put the work in of 5 occasional users to make up the difference." - quite a dedication Demon. I'm relatively new here and still get frequently surprised by the number of users posting in most threads. Unless they are the same people, there's a lot of variety here, at least to my standards.

It is lively but the ability to create an account is broken and we dont know if the owner is gonna fix it. |

03.22.24 | I see, so we're kids being locked in the house and having a party while the parents are away, but not being certain if they would ever come back. |
Egarran
03.22.24 | Pretty much, and users have begun to accept their descent into madness. Sputnik is peaking. |

03.22.24 | i got banned for bumping old lists back in the day |
NudeTayne
03.23.24 | there's so many good releases and singles and bands this site has zero coverage on |
Storm In A Teacup
03.23.24 | Indeed. Thats where you are supposed to come in and contribute too. But hey its a party, and we are peaking for a while. |
NudeTayne
03.23.24 | Tried adding a Hugh Hardie track once and it simply didn't post it and I gave up ever since |
Storm In A Teacup
03.23.24 | Oh. Tracks actually arent addable typically. That has to go to a moderator first for approval and 99% of all tracks submitted are denied if they can be found on an EP or LP. |
Storm In A Teacup
03.23.24 | I think its dumb but their reasoning is iirc that was 15 years ago they didnt want so many additions to the database making things clunkier. |
Egarran
03.23.24 | I only listen to bands featured on Sputnik, it's very convenient. |
NudeTayne
03.24.24 | sucks because a lot of talented people sometimes release single tracks that aren't ever added to any discography and they're worth their own ratings and speculation |
Butkuiss
03.24.24 | Honestly sput is pretty rock-centric in both use and design (albums but not singles; a plethora of rock and metal microgenres but little granularity among hip-hop, blues, jazz, and even certain styles of electronic music, etc.). It’s well-worn ground; but my philosophy is that I use rym for genre hair splitting and discography completionism, and Sputnik for its community, focus on long-form criticism of the album as a definitive text, and its stellar Web 1.0 interface. |
Butkuiss
03.24.24 | My #1 wish for sput isn’t singles in the database, it isn’t more genres, it isn’t the forums, and it isn’t even the ability to change names or create an account.
I just want fucking dark mode lol. |
gabba
03.24.24 | Phone app with push notifications? Would treat me dopamine well. |
