02.20.10 | This is a painful list. Sorry. |
tiesthatbind
02.21.10 | 27- Great guilty pleasure song.
29- Don't like rap, but I actually do enjoy this song.
30- Man, I do hate that guy. And that song. |
ECRbubs
02.21.10 | These are not guilty pleasures. There is not too much rap. This is just an awesome list. |
SeaAnemone
02.21.10 | umm... opinions anyone? |
HolidayKirk
02.21.10 | Wow, shit.
1. Yes, I read Pitchfork... A lot...
2. Fuck Opeth
3. It was raps decade, go pout somewhere.
4. JackFr, go back to the '60's. |
HolidayKirk
02.21.10 | 5. A MILLI A MILLI A MILLI A MILLI A MILLI A MILLI A MILLI A MILLI A MILLI A MILLI A MILLI A MILLI A MILLI |
Greenman
02.21.10 | Rap's decade? If we're talking quality, rap probably died this decade. |
HolidayKirk
02.21.10 | Naw, it just changed. So pop-rap became popular. Big deal, its just a natural evolution. Theres always going to be hardcore underground "real" rap for those that want it, but now people who dont just seek that kind of stuff can like rap too. |
SeaAnemone
02.21.10 | I don't think any decade can be called a raps decade, but that's just me. |
HolidayKirk
02.21.10 | I just like the way rap came to International prominence this decade, I predict the best album of this current decade with be a rap album. |
SeaAnemone
02.21.10 | In my opinion that's a pretty weird gauge of quality. |
Greenman
02.21.10 | "Naw, it just changed. So pop-rap became popular. Big deal, its just a natural evolution. Theres always going to be hardcore underground "real" rap for those that want it, but now people who dont just seek that kind of stuff can like rap too."
"Evolution" implies an improvement. Rap is kind of like metal: it's a type of music that was supposed to stay underground, and aside from a select few acts, any attempts to bring it into the mainstream result in disaster. |
Sowing
02.21.10 | it's okay to have some rap on a list like this, but it isn't broad enough. but you didn't claim that it was objective or anything, so any list of opinions is a good list. |
HolidayKirk
02.21.10 | There is a LOT of acts that bring rap to the mainstream and do it well, A TON. I would list them off but you would probably shoot all of them down so I wont even start.
|
SeaAnemone
02.21.10 | you're probly right but what I was saying was-
you judge things by how mainstream they become, as in international exposure = better? that's weird. |
HolidayKirk
02.21.10 | Just cause somethings underground dosnt make it bad, how many people have heard Ande Up? Or Shine Blockas? |
SeaAnemone
02.21.10 | you're misunderstanding me, sorry I probably wasn't clear...
it seemed like you were justifying the amount of rap on your list by saying "rap came to International prominence this decade"
whereas it confuses me as to how popularity factors into the quality of a piece of music. who cares if it's popular or underground? |
HolidayKirk
02.21.10 | I just like these songs.
I took this whole list off a smart playlist on my iTunes, these are my most played songs of the decade. |
Calculate
02.21.10 | GRIIIIIINDING. dope. list kinda rules, dont know what everyone else is on. |
couldwinarabbit
02.21.10 | A few good thing some meh things and a lot of bad things. |
Greenman
02.21.10 | 13 is an abomination. |
HolidayKirk
02.21.10 | Yeah I could see people not liking that song... sort of. |
JulesWin
02.21.10 | nice to see Ante Up on this list, outstanding song
and Ms Jackson was bigger and better than B.O.B. |
sleepyhead
02.21.10 | is this list a joke? where the fuck is radiohead? porcupine tree? sigur ros? isis? or at least mono or some explosions in the fucking sky???
ok now the good points. 29 and 27 are kinda enjoyable, 26&25 are awesome, 24 good, 22 ok, 18 good, 16 ok, 15 good, 8 exceptional. all the rest is garbage. and trust me, 00s was NOT a hip-hop decade! as for opeth, i can understand someone personally not liking their music but man...have some respect! |
JulesWin
02.21.10 | so leaving Opeth out is disrespectful?
people have diff tastes man, chill out |
breesuschrist
02.21.10 | the child of pitchfork and mtv would probably agree. kind of scary |
HolidayKirk
02.21.10 | @sleepyhead
Did you just judge me without looking at my other lists? I FUCKING LOVE RADIOHEAD STUPID, so I don't include... I don't know... Idioteque big deal. |
JWT155
02.21.10 | A Milli isn't top anything material imo, but to each his own. |
sleepyhead
02.21.10 | so leaving Opeth out is disrespectful?
no. but saying "fuck Opeth" is. a little objectivity never hurt anyone |
sleepyhead
02.21.10 | I FUCKING LOVE RADIOHEAD STUPID
oh yeah course you do, you read pitchfork :) |
JulesWin
02.21.10 | @ sleepy
I missed the "fuck Opeth" comment |
robertsona
02.21.10 | som good stuff here
at least it's not generic. |
JWT155
02.21.10 | "at least it's not generic."
On the contrary this is about as generic as Pitchfork lists go...
Wilco - check
Vampire Weekend - Check
Outkast - Check
Lcd Soundsystem - Chcek
... |
sleepyhead
02.21.10 | "I predict the best album of this current decade will be a rap album"
that may be true, but imo would need some other influence to evolve, like MPP (animal collective) for example. now that could be awesome! |
robertsona
02.21.10 | "On the contrary this is about as generic as Pitchfork lists go...
Wilco - check
Vampire Weekend - Check
Outkast - Check
Lcd Soundsystem - Chcek
..."
not rly sry
i mean ok i guess it has a few bands that pitchfork would name but saying that it's generic because it has those bands is like calling every metal list with an opeth album generic
this definitely isnt a generic list
altho wtf dude despicable dogs? lol |
HolidayKirk
02.21.10 | I love Pitchfork.com. Love it. See yall at the festival this year bitches. |
JWT155
02.21.10 | I love to hate pitchfork.com. |
HolidayKirk
02.21.10 | Erryone does, its like hatin on radio cause you liked a song you heard on it. |
SeaAnemone
02.21.10 | Pitchfork has fantastic writers but their taste in music is really topical and subpar |
AnotherBrick
02.21.10 | lmao these are the best songs of the decade? this list is fucking terrible |
robertsona
02.21.10 | pitchfork are good writers and i agree with them a LOT so no beefzies |
SeaAnemone
02.21.10 | guys need to stop citicizin'. These are obviously very subjective... that being said, I really recommend you expand beyond P4K's taste, Ben |
HolidayKirk
02.21.10 | You know... I never said these were the best songs of the decade just my favorite. |
HolidayKirk
06.27.12 | Holy god, I was a Pitchfork goon back then... Still, all great songs |
