03.12.10 | Shutter Island was good. Good list but Jonsi at the rating of 3.9 sounds pretty spot on to me. It's about a 3.5/4.
Check out The Evpatoria Report - Dar Now. |

03.12.10 | I haven't seen it yet but all of my friends who have thought is was stupid and they didnt like it. |
YouAreMySilence
03.12.10 | Yeah alot of my friends didnt enjoy it either.
Idk for Jonsi, Grow Till Tall gives it atleast a 4. My rating might lower but I cant give it anything but a 5 right now. Pure gold. |

03.12.10 | I called the ending of the movie pretty much as soon as they entered the facility. But it was a hell of a lot of fun getting there. Loved the visuals, every camera shot was epic and composed perfectly. Basically exactly what you should expect from Scorsese, and he created the mood/atmosphere brilliantly as usual too. |
Electric City
03.12.10 | yeah hearing 1 in shutter island rocked my world.
and Jonsi isn't that good dude, I wish it was better but I sometimes like negative emotions to simmer underneath my music, if only because the happiness shines a little brighter in the end. |
BallsToTheWall
03.12.10 | I didnt even want to see the movie originally. My borther made me go and i'm glad I did. |
YouAreMySilence
03.12.10 | Same Downer, thats why I was so surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I usually hate when music "mollywhips me with sunshine" but in this case it puts a constant smile on my face in away like no other record has. And the vocal melody to Grow Till Tall has to be one of the best Ive ever heard. |

03.12.10 | Movie was pretty meh by Scorcese standards imo. |

03.12.10 | Shutter Island was pretty amazing |

03.12.10 | Dude 3 is one of the greatest albums ever. I want to see Shutter Island pretty bad actually I should get on that. |

03.12.10 | Just finished listening to Jonsi. Sweet! |

03.12.10 | I wanted to see it but am less excited cause I apparently guessed the ending almost perfectly. Still should be good cause it's Scorcese. |
Brokenjewel
03.12.10 | Scorsese is pretty consistent. I thought The Departed was a cluttered mess, though. |
ninjuice
03.12.10 | boooooooooooooooooooooo
You suck. |
Brokenjewel
03.12.10 | Who, me? |
ninjuice
03.12.10 | Yes, cause The Departed is amazing. It's not very complicated at all. |
Brokenjewel
03.12.10 | I never said it was, dude.
It was an ugly pastiche of better films. Like the part when he lifts his hand up and tells the therapist how his hand never shakes...In The Godfather when Pacino realises his father is going to be assassinated in hospital and he stands outside with some none-mob dude who's hand is shaking like a shitting dog as he tries to light a cigarrette, Pacino takes the lighter, lights it for him and looks at his own steady hand. The beginning of his descent into criminality. Elegant and subtle. |
ninjuice
03.12.10 | So one scene is similar to another scene. Anything else? |
Brokenjewel
03.12.10 | Ok, now I'm annoyed.
I'm not saying it's a poor film because one scene is like another. I am saying that I see The Departed as cluttered and unfocused, for reasons that would fill a long essay. I attempted to condense my argument into a brief example. |
ninjuice
03.12.10 | Fine. I'm just glad you're alone there. |
Brokenjewel
03.12.10 | It was just an opinion, man. Whatever. |
MUNGOLOID
03.12.10 | movie was decent. it was a little too long and the twist ending was just, bad. did love the atmosphere, weird dream scenes, & acting though.
i'd give it a 2.5 / 4 |
tombits
03.12.10 | The film had a great concept and was shot well, but the plot became too convoluted for its own good and the explaination at the end was way too much. It was Sorsese at his most ridiculous and unrestrained, and he nearly pulled it off too. |
ninjuice
03.12.10 | "It was just an opinion, man. Whatever."
Which is why I said "fine" instead of "you're a faggot". |
Brokenjewel
03.12.10 | It wasn't the 'fine' part I took exception to.
It was the: 'I'm glad you're alone there.'
Because I disagree with your opinion I am alone in mine? Arrogance. I dislike you. |
porch
03.12.10 | Ninjuice is an ignorant douche, and doesn't seem to know much about movies either. Shutter Island was a disappointment, but then Scorsese has been rehashing old ideas for a long time now so i'm not that surprised. |
Brokenjewel
03.12.10 | Have to agree with MrPorchular. |
ninjuice
03.12.10 | The Departed has 92% approval on Rotten Tomatoes and an 8.5/10 average on IMDB, so you are definitely in a small minority when you don't like it.
Sorry that misunderstanding me makes me a douche. |
Brokenjewel
03.12.10 | It wasn't a misunderstanding; you didn't mention a 'minority'.
And yeah, I'm aware I'm in a minority when it comes to my opinion of that film, but I don't see what that has to do with anything. There has been a lot of critical theory aimed at Scorcese's work and The Departed is flawed, whatever the majority thinks.
Personally, I'd have been interested in your detailed opinion about the film, but instead you apparently feel 'glad' about my being 'alone'. Great way to voice an opinion. |
ninjuice
03.12.10 | Then I should have "minority". Settle down. |
ninjuice
03.12.10 | "Ninjuice is an ignorant douche"
Lol yeah I make rasputin look like Waior |

03.12.10 | Ok.

03.12.10 | Going to to see the movie this weekend/next weekend depening on how Uni work goes. Not going to read any comments in this list in case of spoilers, but yeah, looking forward to seeing it. |

03.12.10 | ok well i'll weigh in with my thoughts then...
this is just scorsese dumbing down for hollywood. i suppose if you switch off your brain then its enjoyable but considering i'm a huge fan of his older movies its hard to do that. |

03.12.10 | i wouldn't say he's dumbing down for hollywood because the film itself feels so polished from the production values to the scope. shutter island, actually feels like a movie. |

03.12.10 | Touche. |

03.12.10 | I kinda agree with Leotard. Movie was not good. Horribly cliche, extremely predictable. It would have been a bigger twist if SPOILER........ it wasn't all in the protaganist's head. Anybody that seen a psychological thriller in the last 15 years should've seen that coming. That "twist" is so stale now. |
MUNGOLOID
03.12.10 | the twist was so stale that i bet M. Night Shyamalan would grunt if he seen it. |
Ulsufyring
03.12.10 | whoever said the production values were high on this movie is fucking retarded. if you're anything less than blind you can spot the terrible green screening on the boat and during the drive through the forest a mile away.
not only that, and it might have just been my theatre, but i swear the color filter changed like 8 times during the movie |
MUNGOLOID
03.12.10 | i said the production values were good. never said they were perfect. |
porch
03.12.10 | The twist was in the fucking book that this is based on so stop complaining about it as if its Scorsese's fault
|
MUNGOLOID
03.12.10 | the twist isn't the problem, it's how it was delivered that knocked off major points. |

03.12.10 | visually, Shutter Island was far superior to The Departed. Didn't have the characters, or the acting though. The plot in The Departed was pretty ok, albeit a bit standard. It's a remake though, so whatever. Gangs of New York was Scorsese's last borderline classic IMO, and it had been awhile before that he'd released one (Goodfellas). All of his movies are entertaining, but nothing will ever top Taxi Driver, which is the greatest film of all time in my opinion. |

03.12.10 | Gangs of New York sucked anus. TV-movie quality at best. |

03.12.10 | It seems Casino is pretty underrated |
Deviant.
03.12.10 | I enjoyed Casino, but it almost seemed like Goodfellas part 2. Which is fine and all but being the first movie he made after Goodfellas I was hoping for something a little different |
porch
03.12.10 | Yeah, but still probably his last great movie though. Don't know what he was thinking with The Aviator or Gangs. Another good one that a lot of people seem to have forgotten about is Bringing Out The Dead. Nic Cage is really good in that
|
MUNGOLOID
03.12.10 | the reason casino and goodfellas feel similar is because they're both based off of books written by the same guy. |
Inveigh
03.12.10 | Casino is good, but it's kinda a poor man's Goodfellas. The Aviator was ok, just kinda boring. Gangs of New York was Scorsese's baby, 20 years in the making. It was also fantastic. I have no idea why anyone wouldn't like it, other than Cameron Diaz's annoying ass. They really, really should've gotten someone else to play that role. The opening battle is just fucking epic.
Bringing Out the Dead is DEFINITELY underrated, and maybe Nic Cage's best movie. Which I guess isn't really saying all that much, but Leaving Las Vegas and Raising Arizona were pretty good.
Forgotten, and kinda bad Scorsese movie: The King of Comedy.
Also, De Niro's peformance in Cape Fear saved the movie.
Yeah, I love Scorsese. Was a film major and wrote multiple papers on him/his movies. |
MUNGOLOID
03.12.10 | the nic cage that made me realise that he actually did have some acting chops was Adaptation. can't believe no body talks about that movie any more. |

03.13.10 | the trailer gives away the ending, but its a good idea so i won't be disappointed when i see it |
