| Alt/Prog-rock
Bunch of albums which aren't well recognized within this genre that should be. | 1 | | Sinew The Beauty Of Contrast
Band proclaims to be a mix of Dredg, Muse and Tool. It's spot on with that, too Check them out yourself: http://www.myspace.com/sinewmusic | 2 | | Prisma Collusion
Nearly all prog-rock wants to be Tool. These guys are the closest I've seen, bar the unique singer. Stay away if you hate clones, pick it up if you don't mind them.
http://www.myspace.com/prismaband | 3 | | Sans Seraph After The Rain
These guys are more kinda Dredg-like. They have their own style and don't really copy anyone directly. http://www.myspace.com/sansseraph | 4 | | Cire Wholesale Buyout
Seems to copy the APC sound directly. Again, if you hate clones you should stay away. http://www.myspace.com/thecire | 5 | | Khoma A Final Storm
Band is popular enough, but their latest album seems to have been ignored. Cult Of Luna with clean vocals, In the same kinda tone as Karnivool's "Simple Boy". http://www.myspace.com/khoma | 6 | | Rishloo Eidolon
Most people know of these guys by now on here, But there are some who don't. I suggest listening to them to hear the singers vocal range, if anything. http://www.myspace.com/rishloo | 7 | | Demians Mute
I'll throw in a new album here too. STEVEN WILSON LOVES THIS GUY. Just thought I'd say that because that is how he used to market himself. Good acoustic proggy alt-rock. http://www.myspace.com/demiansmusic | 8 | | The Mayan Factor In Lake' Ch
You might of heard these guys, you may have not. More progressive acoustic stuff. Singer reminds me of Fred Durst sometimes. http://www.myspace.com/themayanfactor | 9 | | Melodyssey The Two Windows
Higher pitched vocals are the main key here. Standard alt-rock, but if you like the vocals from those types of bands, check these guys out. (drummer is from Dead Letter Circus) http://www.myspace.com/melodyssey | 10 | | Day One Symphony AViciousCircle
Really easy to pick up and play. Listen to the song Comabath. http://www.myspace.com/dayonesymphony | |

07.09.10 | Thought I'd do something different from my standard "post" stuff. | Yazz_Flute
07.09.10 | Only know 6 and 7 but love both. I just reviewed 7 yesterday also so check that out if any of you haven't. | acorncheese
07.09.10 | Ahhhh, I will give these bands a thorough checkout. | DDconjoined
07.09.10 | sweet list man. I have heard a few of these.. don't mind a Tool clone | Yazz_Flute
07.09.10 | I never got around to checking Karnivool out besides like one song. | Powerban
07.09.10 | Karnivool aren't that bad. But yeah, I made this list for underground stuff that people won't really know.
I highly recommend Sinew. I don't know how they haven't made any impact. Maybe they need some better marketing. | Masochist
07.09.10 | I know of #6, of course (they're not obscure here on Sputnik), and I only know of #8 because of AnotherBrick (they're his second-favorite band). | Powerban
07.09.10 | 5, 6, 7, and 8 were bands to get everyones attention in a way. But I didn't want to put in the standard Tool/Dredg/Fair To Midland/Karnivool/The Butterfly Effect etc etc.
Sinew and Prisma were my main reason in making this list. They should feed the average prog-rock fans hunger.
Just get Sinew, if anything. | DDconjoined
07.09.10 | shit dude, sinew sounds really good. vocally sounds like the lead singer of Flaw.. can't hear much Tool, but yeah.. thanks heaps for the rec.. is the new demians worth checking out?? | Powerban
07.09.10 | yeah, sure is dude. not much different to his first overall. | Yazz_Flute
07.09.10 | The new Demians is definitely worth a listen, but it may take a few for it to grow. | BrahTheSunGod
07.09.10 | Gooood stuff, I've heard of only a few of these and will listen to the rest for sure.
Allow me to rec:
The Panic Division - Versus
The Panic Division - Sleepwalker
Dark, DLC-esque awesomeness with a bit of an 80's Cure-ish influence as well. Worth a look, they're massively underrated. | Powerban
07.10.10 | Thanks man, I'll check them out.
Suns Of The Tundra should also be on this list too. Justin from Tool used to be their bassist and they're a more Kyuss-like version of Tool I guess. | AnotherBrick
07.13.10 | sweet dude. lots of stuff i want to check out | Powerban
07.13.10 | The Panic Division are decent. Definitely have some 80's vibe goin'. |
