The Real Best Albums Of The 90's

Obviously I left out a shit ton of good stuff. Ordering these is impossible, but I tried...kind of.
10Nas
Illmatic

I was skeptical about including this, but Illmatic is, after all, one of the hip hop bibles.
9Soundgarden
Superunknown

The pinnacle of grunge and that's a fact. Fuck Nirvana, fuck Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam's ok. Superunknown has the best combination of songwriting, singing and actual musical talent.
8Kyuss
Welcome To Sky Valley

A masterpiece of stoner and desert rock. Better than BFTRS and sadly Josh Homme hasn't come close to this album with anything he has done since.
7Nine Inch Nails
The Fragile

The peak of NIN, the peak of industrial rock and the quintessential modern-day double album. Everything about this is perfect. One of those rare cases that takes forever to come out but once you hear it you understand why.
6Radiohead
Ok Computer

As overrated as this is, and Radiohead is in general, I can't deny the greatness of Ok Computer. Probably the quintessential 90's album.
5Megadeth
Rust In Peace

I tried to keep the artists on this list mostly modern, but when we're talking about the greatest thrash album ever made, I can make an exception.
4 Tool
Ænima

One of Tool's two masterpieces and what a monster it is. Released at a time when metal and hip hop were huge and grunge was slowing down, the boys of Tool showed that their unique brand of art-rock/metal was as potent as anything out there.
3Opeth
Still Life

This seems to be the pick for most troo Opeth fans, and while it's not my favorite by them, it's still an incredible sonic adventure and easily one of the best metal albums of the 90's. Created a new benchmark of songwriting and intensity when it came out.
2Wu-Tang Clan
Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)

The best hip hop album of the 90's, my favorite hip hop album of all time. 12 tracks of perfection from 9 ridiculous mc's. While Biggie's fat ass was rapping about getting pussy these dudes were talking about torturing and killing you in the most creative ways possible. Long live the Wu!
1Massive Attack
Mezzanine

Mezzanine gets the #1 spot because when it came out it put electronic music on a whole new level. One of the best headphones albums ever made and the absolute pinnacle of production. Incredible guest artists, phenomenal songwriting, it's a modern day masterpiece. What more is there to say?
Special mention goes to Music Has The Right To Children.
