| Sputnik I Need Your Help, Could You Answer A Survey I Made?
I'm doing a research essay pertaining to downloading music for one of my courses, I needed rrto make a survey in order to gather my own information on the topic. If you guys could rranswer it i'd rreally appreciate it, it's only 24 questions. If you have any questions leave rrsomething in the comments, or if you'd like to add to your answer say something, it would be rrgreat information to include in my essay. SURVEY: rrhttps://spreadsheets4.google.com/viewform?rrrrauthkey=CP2MoesG&ui=1&formkey=dE16LUMwNjdZdU5zUDVLTTRVRlpJTEE6MQ#gid=0r rr*List is current 5 digs* | 1 | | Weezer The Blue Album | 2 | | Weezer Pinkerton | 3 | | The Gaslight Anthem American Slang | 4 | | Kate Nash My Best Friend Is You | 5 | | Deerhunter Halcyon Digest | |

An interesting point was the question about the decline in the music industry. I selected "not enough interesting music" as the answer, but I'm not sure there's a 'decline' as such in the music industry, it's just heading down the path of greed by catering to the mass (and unquestioning) public.
I also think digital music (iTunes etc) is overpriced. It's just as cost effective to buy a CD in most cases, so what's the point? | bailar14
10.05.10 | ill gladly help. but you should repost the link to the survey in the comments because the new lists
have a bunch of r's for some reason. edit: nvm man i got it. survey here:

10.05.10 | Edwin what you said about iTunes I think is very true, iTunes tends to have lower sound quality and the absence of album art which make the Cd worth it yet they're equal on price level. Thanks bailar, I really don't know whats up with the submission I fixed it twice but it kept reverting back. You guys are awesome for answering btw. | Liberi Fatali

10.05.10 | Is this for a uni/college or school course? I have a uni essay coming up which I was going to base on a similar subject. | qwe3

"I buy all of my music"
Depends on what you mean by "my music"? I consider "my music" to be the stuff sitting on my shelf. There's plenty of other stuff on my computer but I don't consider it to be my music, only stuff that I'm checking out to see if it's worth buying or not. But I thought maybe you meant it to be all the music I listen to, so I went with "disagree".
"What do you think is the prominent cause of the steady decline in the music industry?"
I went with 'Not enough interesting music in the mainstream' because I think it's essentially the mainstream artists who suffer from this, because their audience is by definition made of people who don't care that much about music/artists (as opposed to music geeks, passionates, etc. who are more likely to invest time and money in music that someone who see music as just another entertainment outlet)
"I believe downloading is wrong"
Yeah I think that ultimately it helps unknown artists to be known so I went with "disagree". Obviously it's not a black or white issue, but when I see small artists that no one would have even heard of if it weren't for people posting their album on a blog complaining about the leaks, I'd like to ask them how many albums do they think they would have sold if it weren't for downloaders sharing their stuff.
Regarding fair prices for downloads, I went with the lowest answer because I think a fair price for lossy digital music is ZERO. Lossless is another story, I would say no more than $5.
"Do you feel you should have to pay for the music you listen to?"
I went with "no" because the term you used is "listen". I think we should be able to check out music for free before buying. There are more and more legal ways to do that so that's cool, just don't expect people to throw $15 at an album based on media outlets who praise everything and their mother or a couple of tunes off myspace. | acorncheese

10.05.10 | Done, some of the questions I found a bit iffy. I did an essay like this when I was in High School too. I doubt I still have it though. I posted it on the forums, so, I might be able to link it. But it was a while ago. Good luck anyway. | ButcheredChildren

10.05.10 | Done survey, good luck with the report. I do agree with what most people are saying here; most music I'm into just isn't available to buy anywhere I'm near or is ridiculously overpriced (average price for an album down here is $30 aus, and that's just for your run of the mill metal release.) So yeah, the music industry in aus is horrible. In the end though, I think downloading is positive; most bands and artists in the last ten years wouldn't have gotten anywhere near the exposure they have now (Case in point: Bieber, for better or worse) had it not been for downloading. | Phil
