Most Disappointing Albums

After being severely disappointed at spending over $800 to go home and attend the FSU ass-whooping of Miami on Saturday night, I decided to make this list about the ten most disappointing albums. These are ten albums from bands who either were already established or had showed promise on their first or second releases.
1Modest Mouse
We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank

After many releases that were adored by critics and fans alike, Modest Mouse was poised to take over the music industry with their follow-up to "Good New for People Who Like Bad News." Despite songs like Parting of the Sensory and Dashboard, "We Were Dead.." was a giant disappointment, as the band began a foray into "poppier" waters.
2Hopesfall
A Types

"The Satellite Years" was a breakout release for Hopesfall, opening up many wandering eyes in the post-hardcore world. Unfortunately, they decided to pop a squat on my car stereo with "A Types," and all that magic seemed lost.
3Suicidal Tendencies
Join the Army

With the attitude of a punk band and the speed of a thrash band, ST had put the crossover world on its head with their self-titled, but failed to follow up on any of that promise with "Join the Army," the 38-minute shitfest that betrayed a very hardcore fanbase.
4Judas Priest
Nostradamus

After "Angel of Retribution," Judas Priest seemed to be on the fast track to becoming the band they used to be, albeit 20 years after the fact. Unfortunately, they decided to slap me in the face with the poop-glove that was "Nostradamus," an album that defines the word "cliche."
5The Ocean
Heliocentric

Oh god, was this terrible.... All those different layers and waves of brilliance that was "Precambrian" all disappeared on "Heliocentric."
6Muse
The Resistance

After establishing themselves in Europe with "Origin of Symmetry" and finally breaking out with the follow-up, "Absolution," Muse seemed ready to become the biggest band in the world. Unfortunately, they hit a huge roadblock on the way with "The Resistance." "Resistance" is an almost hour-long snoozefest that fails to encapture everything the band was about. Thanks Muse for helping me waste $14.
7The Smashing Pumpkins
Adore

While "Adore" wasn't really all that bad, it still didn't live up to the expectations that were set forth with "Mellon Collie..." Instead, the band experimented with broadening their horizons and range and instead ended up with a massively inconsistent album that left everyone yearning for more(and not in a good way).
8Tool
10,000 Days

If you're going to make your fans wait 5 or more years in between releases, you better make them extraordinary. Unfortunately, Tool failed to do so with "10,000 Days." We've come to expect Tool to push our boundaries, making one think. They instead remake "Lateralus," just with eye-popping packaging and a different title.
9Dinosaur Jr.
Green Mind

After releasing 3 albums, 2 of which were beyond excellent, Dinosaur, Jr. released "Green Mind," which was really an ode to J. Mascis himself. As he alienated the rest of his band before the writing and recording of "Green Mind," he also alienated his fans. The album isn't all that bad, it's just missing that individuality and creativity that made "Bug," and more so "You're Living All Over Me," classics.
10Sick of It All
Life on the Ropes

The Kings of Hardcore Inconsistency Sick of It All began their downfall(at least with me) with "Life on the Ropes." "LOTR(not Lord of the Rings, you fucking nerds)" was as generic and hardcore "bro" as it gets, as SOTA tried to turn themselves into their NY counterparts(Madball, h20, Agnostic Front) and forgot what got them where they were in the first place. They've fortunately since returned to form(somewhat), but loyal fans(like myself) will never forget "Life on the Ropes."
