Here's ten albums that you guys should check out. Honestly, everything here is a 4 at the very least (for me). These aren't necessarily the most unknown records out there, but they aren't recognized by the majority of the users. | 1 | | Harmonium Si on avait besoin d'une 5ième saison
Progressive folk. Really nice, melodic stuff. Soothing, ethereal, and heartfelt, this album skillfully depicts each of the four seasons, along with an imaginary fifth season, the mood of which is captured perfectly in the album's climax, the seventeen minute long epic, Histoires Sans Paroles. For fans of: Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, King Crimson. | 2 | | Winterfylleth The Ghost Of Heritage
Atmospheric black metal. At times, they seem kind of like a slightly more aggressive Drudkh, though they manage to create a relatively unique sound. Perfect album for this time of year. For fans of: Drudkh, early Ulver, Burzum. | 3 | | Desperados The Dawn Of Dying
Thrash. Sodom's frontman pretending to be Clint Eastwood. Sounds like above-average Sodom material with some Ennio Morricone leads thrown in. For fans of: Sodom, Kreator, Megadeth. | 4 | | Angizia Ein Toter fahrt gern Ringelspiel
Avant-garde/progressive. Manages to do what many Gothic rock bands try (and fail) to accomplish: create dark, classical motifs that manage to both scare and enthrall. Disturbing album, largely due to the unorthodox singing, but strangely beautiful and fragile at the same time. The klezmer motifs are really great. For fans off: I'm not really sure, but probably Comus. | 5 | | Dschinghis Khan Dschinghis Khan
Pop. Dated German pop about Genghis Khan and other historical figures. Oddly catchy and fun, if you're not willing to take it seriously. Might become much less entertaining once the gimmick wears off. For fans of: Bonney M, 80's pop music. | 6 | | Carmen Fandangos In Space
Prog. A mixture of prog rock's complexity and flamenco's festivity and danceable rhythms. If you ever wished that King Crimson or Jethro Tull would embrace Spanish motifs, this is for you. For fans of: Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Jethro Tull. | 7 | | Engraved Before The Tales
Death metal. A brief shot of Swedish death metal with some hints of melody (not really melodeath, though). If only it were a bit longer. For fans of: Death, Dismember, Morbid Angel | 8 | | Leper End Progress
Ska punk mixed with black metal. For fans of: Bomb The Music Industry!, Dissection | 9 | | Comus First Utterance
Progressive folk. Much like Angizia, the vocal style here is anything but accessible and conventional, though after a few listens, one can get accustomed to it. Very haunting, but still graceful. Opeth's acoustic segments were influenced by this album, particularly the interlude in The Herald. For fans of: Opeth, Jethro Tull. | 10 | | Rick Wakeman The Six Wives Of Henry VIII
Progressive rock. Yes' keyboardist's first solo album, and also his best. Mixes classical music and prog rock in an attempt to illustrate the personalities of each of Henry VIII's wives (in this respect, it's very successful). Unlike almost all of his later works, this album never becomes overbearingly cheesy or boring and is always a thoroughly entertaining listen. For fans of: Yes, Pink Floyd. | |

10.16.10 | Shameless bump. No idea why I put 5 here, it's really one hell of a guilty pleasure. 1 is quite possibly the best thing on here. | ConsiderPhlebas
10.16.10 | 5 sounds nuts. Seeing if I can find it. | rc1288
10.16.10 | 1,2,9,10 are the only I've listened to, but they are all superb albums. Nice list BTW! | vanderb0b
10.16.10 | Thanks, rc
@Phlebas
A download is pretty hard to find, but not impossible. Here's the most famous song off the album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzycFeqNxIA | Dryden
10.16.10 | Winterfylleth | Nagrarok
10.16.10 | 1 and 10 are already on my to-listen list. | dreamobile
10.16.10 | 8 sounded absurd at first. I listened to a few songs on Youtube and while I think the combination isn't seamless, I give them props for attempting such a mix. Personally it's not for me, but certainly interesting. | DeafMetal
10.16.10 | 2 is fucking awesome.
8 has a cool cover. Hopefully it's more emphasis on the black metal. | AngelofDeath
10.17.10 | Great list man, though I haven't heard 5 or 6. | Thangorodrim
10.17.10 | Engraved just reformed and will be coming out with a new album. | vanderb0b
10.17.10 | Thanks everyone!
