A Deviant 2010: Bits, Bobs And Loose Ends

The best compilations and EPs from the year that I decided to exclude from the top 100, simple really. These all deserve your time
1Twelve Foot Ninja
Smoke Bomb

Schizophrenic doesn't begin to sum these Aussie lads up, they've taken their helter skelter musical palette and increased it tenfold
2Skrillex
Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites

There are some out there who will tell that Skrillex is just another in a long line of people killing the genre they've thrown themselves into, I say fuck that. The man's just out to have fun, which is the whole point behind "electronic" music. Stumbling through electro house and dubstep, Skrillex's latest ep is the best example of good old natured party music. And not to mention Noisia's first foray into dubstep goes off like a rabbit in a minefield....
3Tesseract
Concealing Fate

i don't even know how to pronounce djent
4Commix
Re: Call To Mind

Few years back, Commix released a definitve drum and bass album in the form of Call To Mind. 3 years later their record company have finally got off their collective asses and issued the remix album, and its a fucking scorcher. Now I imagine the average sputniker won't think a hell of a lot based of what I just wrote but if I said there's a Burial track on it......
5James Blake
Klavierwerke EP

Dubstep for indie kids
6The Tallest Man On Earth
Sometimes The Blues Is Just A Passing Bird

I'll admit that I was increasingly late to the party regarding this guy, but all the acclaim is worth it. That The Wild Hunt is one of my favourites (there's a u in favourite btw) is one thing, the fact that he returned a few months later with this simply beautiful and delicate ep is something else entirely
7Pariah [UK]
Safehouses

Ignore the idiotic comparisons because Pariah is something else. A gorgeous and vibrant mix of dubstep, future garage and IDM spread out over 6 lush filled tracks. Simply the ep of the year
8Heinali and Matt Finney
Lemonade

Huge thanks to TheSpirit for introducing me to these guys, simply amazing
9Digital Mystikz
Return II Space

Eerie, spacious and atmospheric dubstep
10Herve
Ghetto Bass 2

The house mix of the year (Yeti get this) - the ultimate party starter
11Spor
Conquerors & Commoners

More of this neurofunk nonsense, also more of Spor securing his place in the upper echelons of drum and bass
12Adam Freeland
Cope Remixed

Last year, Freeland dropped the spectacular album on us in the form of Cope, an indie album masquerading as big beat. A year later we get this, the remix album that covers every conceivable dance style you could think of - highlight being the Joker Remix of 'Do You'
1316Bit
Chainsaw Calligraphy The Remixes

Earth shaking, god save me from these wobbles
