Inveigh's Top 10 Hip Hop Songs

Title says it all. These are my 10 favorite songs from my favorite genre of music. Listen to them.
10MF DOOM
MM.. Food

Deep Fried Frenz. Clever lyrics that manage to be somewhat thought-provoking? Check. Signature DOOM flow? Check. Houdini sample? Double-check. This track's got it all, and is a perfect introduction to MF DOOM for anyone who's interested (hell, it got me into him). Also used to constantly jam this with my boy FlyLordz back in college, so it gets nostalgia points for jump-starting the short-lived but illustrious rap career of our group PRE.LiMBS. Word. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SiYDJ432b0U
9Gang Starr
Hard To Earn

Mass Appeal. Another song that was instrumental in my love of hip hop, this shit's straight classic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xtk8j9gAxCA
8Mac Lethal
Love Potion Collection 3

Parliament Menthol Lights. There are better songs by Mac, and definitely songs that are more personal to me (Take Me In My Sleep, Halo, Absolutely Nowhere), but this is the first Mac song I fell in love with way back in the day, and he's become one of my favorite emcees ever because of it. He does straight RIP shit on this track though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yitZmCg8GHw
7P.O.S.
Ipecac Neat

That One. Heard this track for the first time when I was going through some difficult times with a female. Not gonna go into any further detail. Song is incredible though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enBP-dYrpUg
6OutKast
ATLiens

ATLiens. One of my first experiences with hip hop at all, this is kind of the song that started my love affair with the genre. Classic, witty lyricism and a beat from outer space. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NywdVBwzurU
5Mobb Deep
The Infamous

Shook Ones Pt. II. This song just flat-out rules -- a milestone of the Queensbridge sound in the 90s. Also if you pay attention, you can hear a lot of stuff in this song (the flow, the sample, some of the actual lyrics even) in Atmosphere's discog up through Seven's Travels. Hugely influential. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cP0wsET8__Y
4Murs
Murs 3:16: the 9th Edition

Walk Like a Man. Murs was instrumental to my burgeoning love of indie rap about 5-6 years ago -- and this song (and the rest of the album to a slightly lesser degree) is a big reason why. The message conveys a lot of what attracted me to the genre in the first place. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arjhFgvMxAY
3Aesop Rock
Labor Days

Battery. Another song that I connect with to a huge degree. This song (and really, the entire album) is about trying to balance passions with the need to make a living. Obviously, it goes a little deeper than that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isumZjs3dKA
2Wu-Tang Clan
Wu-Tang Forever

Triumph. Not off their best album, but this song exemplifies everything I love about hip hop's greatest group of emcees. Just straight verses, no bullshit chorus mucking shit up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isumZjs3dKA
1Atmosphere
Sad Clown Bad Dub 7

God's Bathroom Floor. This was not only one of the first Atmosphere songs I ever heard (it was either this or Sound is Vibration, my memory fails me), but it also contains probably my favorite lyrics of any song ever. An addict has a change of heart while lying on his bathroom floor, but... well, just listen to it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHxhvs5XoYA
