Music
Do you have those albums instill a genuine hunger in you? Albums that might not be your favorite, but that speak of incredible depth to those that take time to comprehend them? Albums that unfold slowly over time, or that lay their genius bare all at once? That's what this list is about for me; the albums that drive my musical progression. Albums that not only make me want to keep listening to them, but discover more like them. I'll try and add soundoffs at later dates for those that care to read them. |
1 | | Atmosphere God Loves Ugly
Very quickly becoming my favorite hip-hop album. He doesn't just throw out meaningless cliches hoping some listeners will latch onto them. He jams his life and his pain in your face and lets you decide. |
2 | | Faith No More Angel Dust
Mike Patton. Faith No More. Angel Dust. That is all. |
3 | | Mr. Bungle California
An album where each song feels like it could be expanded into an entire album, and a fantastic album at that. |
4 | | Stevie Wonder Innervisions
Stevie is the man. He plays all of the instruments on this record, and not only that, but he composes timeless songs that establish a legacy far beyond what many could ever hope to achieve. |
5 | | Miles Davis Birth of the Cool
Pretty much ditto to Mr. Wonder. |
6 | | Opeth My Arms, Your Hearse
DEMOOOONNN OV THE FALLLLLLLL |
7 | | mewithoutYou Brother, Sister
An album that's not only multifaceted, but leaves you thinking even after the music stops. |
8 | | Hella Church Gone Wild
Gotta rep my band, right? Zach Hill is one of my favorite drummers, and there is just something about the instrumental duo that captivates me. |
9 | | Anberlin Cities
Great lyrics and an outstanding vocalist sells almost each and every moment of the stories Anberlin weave, leaving it believable and personal. |
10 | | Brand New Daisy
Took what I loved most about TDAG and turned it to 11 |
11 | | Porcupine Tree Deadwing
Just some of the most beautiful music I've ever heard. Even the hidden track is outstanding. |
12 | | Sikth Death of a Dead Day
Craziness Incorporated. Sure, many bands try to imitate Sikth, but there really are none like them. Even their spoken word sections in the midst of a tech metal maelstrom don't sound out of place. |
13 | | Band of Horses Everything All the Time
Dunno what it is about these guys, but their folky brand of music cuts in its simplicity. |
14 | | Streetlight Manifesto Everything Goes Numb
Best ska album ever. |
15 | | Rosetta The Galilean Satellites |
16 | | Jeff Buckley Grace |
17 | | Off Minor The Heat Death of the Universe |
18 | | Cave In Jupiter |
19 | | Defeater Lost Ground |
20 | | More Than Life Love Let Me Go |
21 | | Gospel The Moon is a Dead World |
22 | | Celeste Morte(s) Nee(s) |
23 | | The Gaslight Anthem The '59 Sound |
24 | | Panzerballett Panzerballett |
25 | | Bomb the Music Industry! Album Minus Band |
26 | | Refused Songs to Fan the Flames of Discontent |
27 | | Sublime Sublime |
28 | | Third Eye Blind Third Eye Blind |
29 | | Burial Untrue |
30 | | Hurt Volume 1 |
31 | | Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here |
