Go Live 2

I also love these live albums, in no order.
1Counting Crows
Across A Wire

With only two albums out at the time releasing a double disk live set was a rather brash move for a band. Counting crows had a reputation as mainly a "live band" that liked to re-engineer their songs but I was still completely floored by what I heard upon my first listen. To date this is still my go to CC album when I'm in the mood.
2Eric Clapton
Crossroads 2: Live in the Seventies

One Thing I live for is a large live library of my personal legends as it really gives you a feel for which songs they themselves loved and loved to play. Here i a wonderful version of just that. A four disk Microcosm of all the things EC loved to play at a very specific time in his history. Its no secret that more than rock or blues-rock EC loves to just play the blues and nothing captures that fact more perfectly than a 24 minute version of Sonny Boy Williamsons' Eyesight to the Blind.
3Eric Clapton
Unplugged

Conversely two decades later, finding himself more of an adult contemporary artist and recorded less than a year after the tragic loss of his son there is "Unplugged. An obviously much more somber recording that could pull the emotion from a stone. With the recording going 10x platinum EC showed that no matter what life brings there is still the music to heal. Or maybe I'm being a little overly sentimental here.
4 Van Morrison
Live at Montreux 1980/1974

This is in all actuality a DVD but I never knew that as it was given to me as a two disc bootleg. I have always been in love with his instrumental arrangements and when it comes to his live performances it's pretty obvious he gets the cream of the crop to back him. I have never seen another vocalist meld with the rest of a band live like my hero George does.
5Portishead
Roseland NYC Live

They actually improve upon some already stellar tracks in ways I never would have thought possible. I will generally pick this to listen to over their first two albums do to some of the changes made by adding the New York Philharmonic orchestra.
6 Nirvana
MTV Unplugged in New York

For all the idiots who think Nirvana's fame was solely a collaboration of luck and timing I just point here. This was a concept that never should have worked and yet it is or is almost their best selling CD. Without the crunchy over-distorted guitar Kurt's voice does an even better job of conveying emotion and sorrow. It also ended up introducing us to some of the greatest unknown covers many of us had never heard.
7Johnny Cash
At Folsom Prison

If you actually need an explanation go back and reread the tittle you twat. Johny Cash was a bad ass... nuff said.
8Ween
Live at Stubb's

With colorful renditions of some of their great songs like "Spinal Meningitis (Got Me Down)", "Bananas and Blow", "The HIV Song" and a personal favorite "Mister, Would You Please Help My Pony?" what isn't there to love about this album?
9 Soundtrack
Woodstock: Music from the Original Soundtrack

With music from some of the greatest musicians to ever spit in the direction of a stage I can't even contemplate someone never having taken the time to listen to this tremendous collection of talent.
10Violent Femmes
Viva Wisconsin

No matter what your opinion of the VFs there are two facts you have no control over. They are tremendous musicians and they are a cult favorite. This gem highlights some of their great songs most people don't know. If you've only ever listened to their Eponymous album this is a great who's who of the rest of their catalog pre 1999.
11Simon and Garfunkel
The Concert in Central Park

Believe it or not this is one of the most controversial live albums of all times and you probably didn't know it. Right now your thinking, Omni this is S&G we're talking about... how can they be controversial? Well, quizzical statement made to myself let me tell you how. In 1981 They reunited after over a decade apart for a free concert on the Great Lawn of New York's Central Park which was attended by more than 500,000 people making it one of the largest live concerts in history... or was it (duh duh dumm dumm). Over the last 20 years or so there has been quite a bit of debate about the crowd actually being anywhere near that large meaning the tittle was never actually earned. Besides all of that BS it remains a great live album that should be in any fans collection.
12David Bowie
Stage

There isn't an unknown song in the bunch. Very few live albums hit this mark for me especially when the artist already has 12 LPs under their belt. Bowie is one of those individuals that has a special place in my heart that in my mind just makes this yet another must have for any real fan.
13The Roots
The Roots Come Alive

For me The Roots are pretty much the definitive modern hip-hop group. They are everything I love about the genre and none of the shit I hate. This electrifying live album is hot, cold, high and low. I have to believe that it is on any real fans top 10 live hip-hop albums list.
14 Jethro Tull
Nothing Is Easy: Live at the Isle of Wight 1970

This is for you Jethro42 ;^): No really this is another one that I personally consider to be epic and one of many on the list that have a video companion. The pure energy Ian Anderson and crew put into this performance is truly electrifying and I highly suggest watching the video first as I did.
15Muse
H.A.A.R.P

As much shit as I would like to give them over "The Resistance". This came pre that shit and is truly a phenomenal live album. similar to some of the previous entries I suggest you watch the video but it really isn't necessary at all. All members are running on all cylinders here and it truly shows with one hell of a truly dynamic performance.
