savagecabbage 05.18.11	For a great acoustic you're going to have to shell out more money than that. Hate to break it to you. Seagull makes a decent acoustic solidbody in that price range, if you spend 500 on a laminate guitar I will come to your house and kick you in the ballsac. Never buy without playing first, you know common sense advice, but only you know what kind of sound your looking for. Solidbodies will "open up" as you play and as they age, which is a good quality to have in a "lifelong" guitar. Anyhow, I probably sound like a dick, but keep saving and get something that will get better with age and will make you a better guitar player. Taylor, Martin, Larrivee, Breedlove, Guild, Yamaha is making some great dreadnoughts right now. Best of luck, and buy something you won't regret.
zeppelinUSA 05.18.11	Definitely go used, you can get so much more for your money. I second Seagull, I recently got an Artist Mosaic for $600 ($1200 new) and I'm in love with it. Any of the big names are good too, just try a lot of different ones out and see what sound you like more. Good luck!

StrangerofSorts 05.18.11	Okay, used sounds like a plan, don't go laminate (had that already but oh well :P), stick to the big names. Oh, also that 500 pounds not dollars, the sign didn't show up for some reason, so I have a little more spending power. I'll start touring the local guitar shops tomorrow and start seeing which guitar I like and then go look it up and buy it online second-hand. Thanks for the advice.
OneMoreRoland 05.18.11	Well i say Dont get a dreadnaught if you want to reach higher fretsduh. But i have an ibanez acoustic and i love it. People hate playing their acoustics after playing mine. But taylors really impress me. I Didnt know people thought so highly of seagulls. Oh, and my ibanez was only $300
omnipanzer 05.18.11	IF you want new: My brother in-law swears by his Yamaha (I think it's a FG730S but could be wrong). He said it's the only newer guitar that he has tried at a lower price point that sounds good and is made of decent materials. I'm only pointing out as he is really happy with it.

I can refer you to a couple of websites if you are interested. macnichol.com - this guy sells blemished guitars for a great price. He has pictures so you can see what you are getting, they are only minor cosmetic flaws with a Big discount. notableguitars.com - guy sells larrivees from Montana, free shipping, and Montana doesn't have sales tax.
