First Half 2011

The albums I've listened to so far this year, ranked. There's a few things on here that almost nobody has checked out but everyone really should. Also I'm listening to the new Primordial right now and will check out the new Vomitory later today, so consider those part of this list as well.
1And So I Watch You From Afar
Gangs

Condensing all of the great things about the s/t into an awesome blast of instrumental rock.
2Foo Fighters
Wasting Light

Did not expect to rank this so high, but every song on here is killer. Can't wait to see the Foos at Lollapalooza.
3Maybeshewill
I Was Here For a Moment, Then I Was Gone

Not quite as good as the last two, but still great.
4Autopsy
Macabre Eternal

Just read my review.
5Wo Fat
Noche del Chupacabra

RIFFS RIFFS RIFFS. 5 long songs of great, swampy stoner metal
6Unexpect
Fables of the Sleepless Empire

Unexpect learn to actually write songs instead of just sections! I enjoyed IaFA a lot, but this is a vast improvement in terms of not sounding like they're trying so hard to be weird.
7Between the Buried and Me
The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues

A logical progression from Colors and the Great Misdirect (which has the most confusing amount of hate on this site). Not nearly as memorable though.
8Glassjaw
Our Color Green (The Singles)

Some of Palumbo's best vocal performances and just a good EP all around.
9Ulcerate
The Destroyers of All

Crushing
10Trap Them
Darker Handcraft

Raw as hell.
11Crowbar
Sever the Wicked Hand

Slow and heavy
12Boris
Heavy Rocks II

Read my review of the first Heavy Rocks and change some of the song titles. This is just fun.
13Scale the Summit
The Collective

Probably higher right now than where it will end up at the end of the year. But these guys are great.
14Protest the Hero
Scurrilous

The bass is really sexy this time around, but it just isn't quite as enjoyable as Fortress or Kezia.
15Touche Amore
Parting the Sea Between Brightness and Me

Why is this only 20 minutes?
16Mitochondrion
Parasignosis

Weird as hell and chock full of heavy, atmospheric bliss.
17Defeater
Empty Days and Sleepless Nights

You've already heard everything you need about this album.
18Manners
Apparitions

My descriptions are gonna be a lot more infrequent now.
19Beastie Boys
Hot Sauce Committee Part Two

Their best since Paul's Boutique tbqh
20Brother Bear
Head in the Clouds
21Cave In
White Silence
22Red Fang
Murder the Mountains
23Rotten Sound
Cursed
24Explosions in the Sky
Take Care, Take Care, Take Care

This is where my ratings drop from 4 to 3.5. Let Me Back In is song of the year though.
25Departures
When Losing Everything is Everything You Wanted
26Dance Gavin Dance
Downtown Battle Mountain II

I am in love with Will Swan's guitar playing. I actually like this better than the first and rank it just behind Happiness.
27Mogwai
Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will
28Weedeater
Jason The Dragon
29I Am Alaska
So They Say

Saw these guys at Bled Fest and they rock. Solid post-hardcore. http://iamalaska.bandcamp.com/album/so-they-say
30My Morning Jacket
Circuital
31CunninLynguists
Oneirology
32Harbours
Remainders

Intense emotional hardcore EP for download. http://harbours.bandcamp.com/
33Raekwon
Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang

I just could not pay attention throughout this one.
34Neuraxis
Asylon

Pretty good for a band with no original members.
35Septic Flesh
The Great Mass
36Wormrot
Dirge

You suffer, but why is that my problem?
37Blaspherian
Infernal Warriors of Death
38Glassjaw
Coloring Book

Bring the hate. I really thought this was nothing more than decent. Sounded too similar to Deftones sometimes (not that I dislike Deftones).
39Boris
Attention Please

Meh. This is where my ratings become 3
40Talib Kweli
Gutter Rainbows
41This Will Destroy You
Tunnel Blanket
42The Human Abstract
Digital Veil

I always assumed this band was second-rate to PtH and BtBaM. Checked this out after much hype and learned that I was correct.
43Atmosphere
The Family Sign

Big disappointment. Just really boring.
44With Words
Cagebound

I TOTALLY FORGOT TO PUT THIS IN THE RANKINGS BECAUSE IT ISN'T ON RYM. But I gave it a 4, and it's probably going to be somewhere in the top 20. Check this shit out if you like Gaza. http://withwords.bandcamp.com/album/cagebound
