11.26.11 | Anyone care the shed any light on this phenomenon? It happens frequently in the Midwest, you should have seen the Bassnectar concert photo's. |

11.26.11 | Dubstep is going in both directions, with Justice's new release. I think heavier is more popular among dubstep circles tho |

11.26.11 | Dubstep is alright. I've encountered numerous awful releases and then some really amazing ones |

11.26.11 | The softer side will baffle me for a bit, I can at least see the appeal of heavier wobbles. |
Rev
11.26.11 | heavier wobbles suck
garagey stuff is the best |

11.26.11 | I like a balance between the complete idiocy of brostep and the softer side - 1 is my preferred poison. |

Uh, what?
The heavier side of dubstep is doing well because kids like noise, they want music as loud as it can possibly get and the majority of artists within this strain of dubstep only know how to make noise, and not atmosphere. It's become a huge commercial entity, and artists have latched onto it to become more successful (Bassnectar for one, Nero as well) |

This was noted by fans at the show (I didn't attend but heard the same story many times after it), as they had seen it all before when Bassnectar previously came to town.
Is it safe to say that the mainstream view of the genre is going to be false after awhile, due to this new use of atmosphere and outside influences? |

When the average person hears the term dubstep they'll automatically think of Skrillex etc, so the common perception of the genre is wrong. But I don't know what you mean by this "new" use of atmosphere etc, that's how dubstep started off 12 years ago |
Acanthus
11.27.11 | I suppose I don't mean "new" at all in that case, considering the history.
Will the genre in it's original form ever find mainstream appeal? |
Deviant.
11.27.11 | Probably not, mainly because most of the material isn't built around hooks and such, like I said it's more atmosphere and quite minimal at times |
Trebor.
11.27.11 | Kids love them hooks |

11.27.11 | Huh well thanks for the input, I'll have to look into the genre's beginnings sometime. At the very least I'll be more considerate when I use the genre tag. |

I still have no idea what Justice was doing being mentioned in this list though. Is all midtempo electronic music now referred to as dubstep by the idiot masses now? |
Acanthus
11.27.11 | I don't know, I was letting that dragon lie personally.
This is really strange, different than anything I would have thought fitted under the genre. |
wabbit
11.27.11 | I'm pretty sure most people think dubstep is synonymous with electronic music that is "loud" of any shape or form.
@Deviant traditional dubstep was almost exclusively in a 2/2 time signature right? |
Imploder
11.27.11 | that's the same as 4/4. since dubstep is probably never notated, its better to just say dubstep often has a half-time feel. the big beat is more important than smaller subdivisions |
tarkus
11.27.11 | I like dubstep like Emika but not the WOMPWOMPWOMP stuff. As we can clearly see, I know nothing about dubstep |

11.27.11 | sorry I didn't include the 2/2 time signature with the emphasis on the first beat. |
Imploder
11.27.11 | either is technically correct but i just doubt when artists are putting tracks together, that they ever pick a tempo of 65 bpm and then decide the half-note gets the beat. the tempo of dubstep is usually around 130 (right?) not 65, the "big beat" feel just gives it the impression of a slower tempo. |
Imploder
11.27.11 | nvm, its normally around 140, with 70 bpm implied, but my reasoning is intact regardless. the kind of dubstep i usually listen to is a bit slower i think. |
