| Top 10 Power Metal Bands
UPDATED LIST http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?rlistid=137536&memberid=440312 | 1 | Sonata Arctica
What can i say? This band is outstanding. Earlier albums such as Ecliptica had
some of the finest, catchiest songs of all of metal in my opinion, even their
latest style of a more progressive sound, still has you enjoying thier songs
just as much, not many bands can change their style and pull it off very well,
but these guys managed that while keeping some of their older styles to keep
fans happy, while experimenting. songs you'd find yourself humming too while
doing your late night shopping, you'd pick up a turnip with the song being
played in your head, then go home and listen to the song, and you'd think of the
turnip. This band just has that effect that no matter where you go, you'll
always be reminded of thier outstanding melody's. Not to mention the singer Tony
Kakko, has got to have one of the finest voices in all of metal.
Recommended Songs: /Blank File/
/Don't Say A Word/
/Paid In Full/
/Flag In The Ground/
/The Last Amazing Grays/
/Victoria's Secret/
/Broken/
Weballergy | 2 | HammerFall
This was a close one between Sonata and HammerFall, both outstanding bands.
HammerFall drop the common keyboard elements in Power Metal, and rely on some
beautiful guitar riffs, and great vocals. Earlier albums are worth a listen too
if you like a bunch of great sounding guitar solos, these guys pull of guitar
solos with almost perfection. Best part, there is a guitar solo in 90% of their
songs. Get that guitar tuned!
Recommended Songs: Dragon Lies Bleeding/ Stone Cold/Renegade/ Hearts On Fire/
Fury Of The Wild/Riders Of The Storm | 3 | Freedom Call
You might be thinking, who? Yes, Freedom Call actually do great power metal!
First song i listened to was "Eternal Flame" It started of an opera sort of
intro, then BOOM! one of the most inspiring beautiful guitar riffs i've ever
heard that still makes me emotional to this day, one of the best song in Power
Metal I've heard, and personally don't think it can be topped, again, personally
being the key word. Outstanding stuff. Give these guys a listen, they aren't too
popular but probably one of the harder working bands out their that deserve some
popularity!
Recommended Songs:
/Eternal Flame/
/Warriors/
/Starlight/
/Out Of The Ruins/ | 4 | Stratovarius
Intros Intros Intros! Man do these guys know how to do a great intro to keep you
listening! One of the more popular bands in Power Metal, and for good reason!
Some great writing by these guys. And they know how to put a keyboard to good
use!
Recommended Songs:
/Hunting High And Low/
/Infinity/
/Black Diamond/
/Destiny/ | 5 | Sonic Altar
New band on the block! Released their first album in late 2011, and I'll tell
you something, for a first album, incredible. A mix of Heavy Metal and Power
Metal, I'll be damned if they are not huge in a few years.
Recommended Songs:
/In The Night/
/Holy Suicide/ | 6 | Firewind
A band that has experienced quite a few problems regarding their line up, all
but 2 out of 8 albums have had different line ups, so needless to say their
sound has changed somewhat in most of their albums, but not a big change at all,
not changes that have you questioning who they are. Even through their problems,
they still produce some great Power Metal!
Recommended Songs:
/Mercenary Man/
/Breaking The Silence/
/Falling To Pieces/ | 7 | Galneryus
Japenese Power Metal, what can go wrong? Well no English, right? Wrong. Most of
their songs and in English, even though with the strong accent, and the
unfamiliarity of the English language, they actually give out some great music
with very strong vocals. Give them a listen on youtube, they are like marmite,
you either love em, or hate em. I think they are alright...Wait
Recommended Songs:
/Destiny/
/Ancient Rage/ | 8 | Dragonforce.
Flame me...Guo on, i know you want too. Yes i'm putting them down here, because
i think they get a little too much hate, come on guys, they aren't bad at all!
And i don't think it's all that nice to ridicule them considering i'm sure most
of you haters out their ain't musically gifted, so don't hate too hard! I'm sure
you've heard of them, so i won't say much, but one thing i'll say, some of the
fastest in Power Metal, and highly edited or not, their albums are pretty damn
good. And The Warrior Inside intro just reminds me of being on a merry-go-round!
Recommended Songs:
/Through The Fire And The Flames/
/Operation Ground And Pound/
/Heroes Of Our Time/
/Fury Of The Storm/
/The Warrior Inside/ | 9 | Kamelot
Darker Power Metal in their earlier albums, now they also have went to a
different style. But check out the Black Halo album. It's close to a
masterpiece!
Recommended Songs:
/When The Lights Are Down/
/Serenade/
/Soul Society/
/The Haunting/ | 10 | Power Quest
Another not to popular band, thier early albums were not for everyone with the
sometimes screeching high vocals and heavy emphasis on keyboards. But with thier
recent line up changes with new vocalist Chity, they made on of the best albums
I've heard in recent years, keyboards are not half as dominant, and the vocals
were much more suited. Great new direction they are were going in! Until Chity
left a few months after the album released :(
Recommended Songs:
/Glorious/
/Sacrifice/
/Survive/
/Crunching The Numbers/
/Better Days/ | |

02.05.12 | BURNING BURNING WITH DESIRE | feanaro

Iced Earth
Sabaton

02.05.12 | Epica...power metal? humm...I know labels worth a damn, but I really wouldn't call them power metal. | Whiskers
02.05.12 | Symphony X are more progressive.
After listening to a couple Blind Guardian albums today, and must admit, they are up there in the top 5 without a doubt. I think I've played Mirror Mirror over around 200 times in the past 12 hours. | feanaro
02.06.12 | Whiskers, you should listen to Celesty's "Vendetta." only other power metal that stands up to BG and Sonata imo. | tiesthatbind
02.06.12 | Kamelot is actually pretty good even though I'm not into this genre. Symphony X is cool too, but then again I prefer their newer, less power-metal oriented stuff. | Whiskers
02.06.12 | Yep i actually enjoyed Vendetta, Autumn Leaves and Fading Away were great songs! | Snowdog808
10.02.14 | Blind Guardian rapes all of this [2] as does Symphony X, Crimson Glory, Jag Panzer, Helloween, and early Fates Warning.
| ChoccyPhilly
10.02.14 | 1 is 1 but your song choices aren't that great? No white pearl or end of this chapter? |
