| Aids' 2011: Eps
My top EPs/Splits/whatever of 2011. Basically, anything I liked but
couldn't put on my LP list cause it wasn't really a proper album.
GUESS WHAT #1 WILL BE. | 20 | | The Flaming Lips and Lightning Bolt The Flaming Lips and Lightning Bolt
Awesome track names, scary music. Good music, but weird as shit and kind
of freaky, especially if you're on drugs (which I think is almost a pre-
requisite for listening to this thing). | 19 | | Massive Attack vs. Burial Four Walls/Paradise Circus
Man, Burial is all over the place in 2011. At least he picked great people to
collaborate with. Fingers crossed for the new LP everyone. | 18 | | Sorrow [UK] Existence
uhn-tss uhn-tss uhn-tss (this rules) uhn-tss uhn-tss | 17 | | Broken Bells Meyrin Fields
Catchy, electronic infused indie-rock from Danger Mouse and Shins frontman
James Mercer. | 16 | | Frightened Rabbit A Frightened Rabbit EP
Scottish indie-rock outfit Frightened Rabbit deliver the goods. They probably
won't ever match 'The Midnight Organ Fight' but that's understandable, and
this is good enough to hold me over for a while. | 15 | | EmAy Mind Altering Dynamics
Great, concious hip-hop from an up-and-coming Canadian producer. | 14 | | Kidcrash Naps
Great screamo music | 13 | | James Blake Enough Thunder
James Blake | 12 | | Reso Valken
Hard-hitting, but cleverly constructed dubstep. The first track "War Machine"
speeds up to nearly twice the tempo of a normal dubstep beat and the
result is a high energy, abrasive track that will have you seizuring on the
dance floor with all the other hipsters. | 11 | | Zeds Dead BBC Radio 1 Mini Mix
Toronto dubstep producers Zeds Dead released this 10 minute minimix of
all their new material early in 2011. Their music falls in with the drop-heavy
"brostep" music that is drawing such mixed reactions from the musical
community. So call this a guilty pleasure I suppose, but whatever man it
rules. Electro/dubstep that is sure to get your blood pumping. | 10 | | Nicolaas Jaar Don't Break My Love
I have, for some reason, still not given his LP a listen, but if this is any
indication of what it will sound like, count me in. The title track on this is
flooring. | 9 | | Burial, Four Tet and Thom Yorke Ego / Mirror
Three modern day electronic music legends combine to produce two
awesome tracks. What a surprise! | 8 | | bansheebeat Galactics
Sputnik user TheReverend724 (or something like that) makes a four song
EP that will take you to outerspace and back with a delightful piece of IDM. | 7 | | Kerouac/The Long Haul Split
Crossing my fingers for a new Kerouac LP in 2012. Awesome split by these
two hardcore/metalcore bands, but I needs more. | 6 | | iNTRiKeT Songs For Sleepy
Sputnik user Jash blends soothing ambient textures with beats and sub-
bass to craft a unique product not to be missed out on for any fan of
electronic music. | 5 | | Reso Ishimura
Dirty dubstep that will rape your face in every hole, but will still cuddle
afterwards. Attention various american "brostep" producers: this is how it
should be done. | 4 | | Love American / Harbours Split
Much apologies to Jash and Rev, but the sputnik user musical project of the
year goes to Mr. Adam "redskyformiles" Thomas and his delicious slice of
hardcore punk. "Olde English Hearts" stops my rectum to the floor and
"Kayfabe" rules too. I'm less sold on the Harbours side of the split, but
Love American's work on this is enough for a top 5 spot. | 3 | | Glassjaw Coloring Book
I have a love/hate relationship with this band. Half of their music I really
really like, the other half I find insanely overrated (but not 'bad'). Also, the
lead singer, Daryl something, is possibly the hugest douche ever. So when
this came out, I was expecting, nay, hoping that it would suck (especially
seeing as the lead up to its release was a disgusting clusterfuck of
shameful marketing). But, god damn it, this EP rules so fucking hard it's
unbelievable. I guess this means I'll hate their next album and then all will
be right with the universe again. | 2 | | CityCop Seasons
It's too bad that this came out very late in the year, otherwise it would
have almost certainly been near the top of the user's EP list. With
'Seasons', this acoustic screamo act has taken their music to a level they
couldn't reach with their previous LP. The drumming on this thing is out of
this world, as is much of the guitar playing. | 1 | | Trophy Scars Never Born, Never Dead
Cliche choice for the best EP of 2011, yes. But I love the shit out of this
style of music that Trophy Scars have perfected with their last two EPs.
Besides having wonderfully structured music, the band are absolute
legends when it comes to picking samples for their songs. The phone call
between Desmond and Penny from 'Lost' at the end of 'Angels' still gives
me goosebumps. And also, fuck fish. | |

02.07.12 | yeah never got around to Street Halo.... i have much catching up to do but I just wanted to get this list out of the way. to be honest the reason i checked out the collabs was because of the artists he picked (Massive Attack, Four Tet etc.) and less about Burial. but I will check out Street Halo eventually.

02.07.12 | Existence in all its form and splendor functions solely on one principle...Deviant is infallable. | Deviant.

02.08.12 | "How is Ishimura higher than Valken?"
because I like Ishimura more, pretty simple really.
"The day that someone makes a list with dubstep on it if Dev hadn't joined Sputnik is the....... "
lol so true. I would have gotten into it eventually but you definitely accelerated the process.
"but no Crosses? :( "
didn't like it, that's the Deftones side-project right? Deftones kind of piss me off, so overrated. | Aids

02.08.12 | Understandable, Deftones is love/hate kinda thing.
