| Greatest Progressive/Technical Thrash Albums
My personal favorite progressive/tech thrash albums. (under construction) | 25 | | Wrathchild America 3-D | 24 | | Depressive Age First Depression | 23 | | Mekong Delta The Principle of Doubt
Out of all the Mekong Delta albums, this is the one that bored me the least. | 22 | | Defiance Beyond Recognition | 21 | | Vendetta Brain Damage | 20 | | Forbidden Twisted Into Form | 19 | | Realm Endless War | 18 | | Dark Angel Time Does Not Heal
The lyrics contain so many vivid depictions of rape and other assorted sex crimes that you begin to wonder if drummer/lyricist Gene Hoglan has ever had his pee-pee touched, or actually perpetrated a rape himself. The intensity of the riffs and the overall lyrical insanity is enough to force a psychotic break. | 17 | | Heathen Victims of Deception | 16 | | Anacrusis Manic Impressions | 15 | | Annihilator Alice in Hell | 14 | | Intruder A Higher Form of Killing | 13 | | Blind Illusion The Sane Asylum
If a thrash album was ever released in the 60's-70's, this would be the trippy outcome. (Also features bass legend Les Claypool - what about that?!) | 12 | | Metallica ...And Justice for All
Featuring an inaudible bass, and a bizarre sterile production, "...And Justice for All" is the most intriguing entry in Metallica's thrash discography. And with it's unique atmosphere and intelligent top-notch songwriting/musicianship -makes it their most progressive. | 11 | | Target Master Project Genesis | 10 | | Aspid Extravasation | 9 | | Deathrow Deception Ignored | 8 | | Vektor Black Future
Behold, the album that put the monotonous retro thrash lineup on their asses and made them realize they'll never hit this level of talent and creativity. | 7 | | Tourniquet Pathogenic Ocular Dissonance
This was the peak of Tourniquet's aggression, and the most progressive selection from their catalog. Most people avoid "Christian" anything like the plague, but you can't help but feel sorry for them - missing out on such killer riffs, solos, drumming, and vocal hooks. | 6 | | Artillery By Inheritance | 5 | | Coroner Mental Vortex | 4 | | Voivod Nothingface | 3 | | Watchtower Control and Resistance
This release boasts some of the most intelligent and thought-out songwriting in all of metal. Not only is Ron Jarzombek a torrent of creativity and amazing riffs, every other instrument is audible and played phenomenally well. | 2 | | Toxik Think This
This is an album I discovered very late in my days of thrash exploration, which is a shame, because it grew to be one of my favorites of all time. If you're not broke out in chill bumps throughout your listen, there's something wrong with you. The drum work, solos, vocals, and general catchiness is something to behold. | 1 | | Megadeth Rust in Peace
This album needs no introduction, for it is a monument to human achievement in music. | |

10.09.14 | Nice list, and props for choosing Nothingface for Voivod. | KILL
10.09.14 | sweet list do you dig believer | manosg
10.09.14 | Great list. 19 fucking rules. | tempest--
10.09.14 | dude fuckin nice | JamieTwort
10.09.14 | Nice list.
17 is 1 though, always. | DakotaRogers
10.10.14 | Thanks for the positive feedback!
Ugh, I knew I'd forget something essential. But yeah! Believer is another Christian band that puts their secular counterparts to shame. Should have fit "Dimensions" in there somewhere. | KjSwantko
10.10.14 | Sweet list Dakota.
I like how you described AJFA as "sterile" lol. Accurate though.
Also I've always been bored by Mekong Delta too. | DakotaRogers
10.10.14 | Thanks!
I bought Mekong Delta's new album a few months back and literally fell asleep when I was listening to it. I've heard plently of positive reviews, but eh... just not my thing. | KjSwantko
10.10.14 | Agreed, I can't listen to them. That Watchtower record on the other hand....fucking crushes. | Avagantamos
10.10.14 | 10 is 1 | bloc
10.10.14 | Only know a few of these, I'll check the rest out for sure. | CursedBell
10.10.14 | where is Thought Industry? | Snowdog808
10.10.14 | So nice to see 3 here! | DakotaRogers
10.10.14 | Thought Industry can be the imaginary #30 spot, as it doesn't really measure up to the others at all. In past lists I've made, I've always included "Mods Carve the Pigs...", but they're generally way too avant garde for my tastes (and that's really saying something.) | JasonCarne
10.12.14 | 2 is insane, one of the best albums ever. I actually haven't heard a few of these though, I need to check them out. | SpiritCrusher2
10.12.14 | props for 7, great list! | TalonsOfFire
10.12.14 | Hell Awaits by Slayer should be on this list, some say it's the first progressive metal album | tempest--
10.12.14 | who says that | tempest--
10.12.14 | wtf lol its not progressive metal in the slightest btw have you heard of fates warning their first album was 84 | tempest--
10.12.14 | and rush are closer to having the first prog metal album than slayer will ever be because slayer are not progressive at all not even a tiny bit | JamieTwort
10.12.14 | Yeah only idiots who know nothing about music would say that a Slayer album was the first prog metal album. Don't listen to
them, Talons. | TalonsOfFire
10.12.14 | Yeah I know, I just thought to mention Hell Awaits because it's Slayer's most technical and with their longest songs.
Though I don't see why it shouldn't be on a list titled "prog/technical thrash albums" that includes RIP. Neither are
progressive metal, though both are very technical. | Snowdog808
10.12.14 | @tempest Neither Fates Warning nor Queensryche were all that progressive in 1984, they were heavily Maiden influenced US power metal at the start. | SpiritCrusher2
10.12.14 | At dawn they sleep and Crypts of eternity are prog as fuck |
