Spreading the Love
As the holiday season winds down, here's a handful of albums I highly enjoy that have 10 or less user votes in the spirit of sharing. Feel free to share your own and try to spread the love for music you think goes unknown and underappreciated. |
1 | | Harlots The Woman You Saw Is The Great City
Metalcore/post-metal: The most underrated of the three Harlots releases and my personal favorite. You can expect the controlled chaos characteristic of 1990s-early 2000s metalcore with Amia Venera-style post metal breaks. It's coupled with a very raw, unclean production that contributes to the album's dense atmosphere. |
2 | | Astral Blood Astral Blood
Black metal: A pretty fun release with symphonic sample backing that works effectively with fellow instruments. |
3 | | Hord The Waste Land
Industrial metal/progressive metal: Think of Rammstein heaviness with Gojira songwriting. These guys hit hard and craft songs that easily get stuck in your head. |
4 | | In Dread Response Heavenshore
Melodic death metal/metalcore: As time has gone on, I've grown to love this particular album more and more. It's not necessarily groundbreaking, but it is a ferocious and passionate display of musicianship. It's overflowing with energy and powerful guitar leads. |
5 | | Methexis Suiciety
Progressive rock: Suiciety blends funky beats, prominent synth work and horns together in a engrossing prog work. Surely inspired by Yes at certain times, particularly later on in the record, Methexis create a work that stands on its own. Features previous Enid vocalist Joe Payne. |
6 | | Ni Les insurgés de Romilly
Math rock/Metalcore: When it comes to sheer complexity, Ni's songwriting is up there. The Frenchmen lay out captivating, intricate rhythms that can be overwhelming sometimes in their technicality. If you enjoy The Dillinger Escape Plan and similar acts, this could be right down your alley. |
7 | | Tacoma Narrows Bridge Disaster Wires/DreamWires
Progressive rock/Metal: It's odd to see this gaining so little attention when its predecessor is close to 80 user votes in total. Wires/DreamWires brings out an addicting jam session with some post-metal influence lingering about. It's heavy and easy to enjoy. |
8 | | Tanooki Suit Euclid
Post-hardcore/Alt.rock: These guys have some sort of charm that just keeps me listening to them. Perhaps its the strength of their vocalist or their consistently good and unforgettable tracks, or just their great passion in what they do. Either way, Tanooki Suit never fail to deliver on all fronts. |
9 | | Tanooki Suit Vaati and Veselekov
See above. |
10 | | Zapruder Fall In Line
Metalcore/Post-hardcore/Post-metal: More crazy Frenchmen with crazy riffs. You can hear elements of Botch (particularly in their below EP) and Converge in their songwriting, which is uncompromisingly heavy and in-your-face. The album is very well-produced and never loses energy. |
11 | | Zapruder Straight From The Horse's Mouth
See above. |
12 | | Zygoma The Forgotten
Metalcore/hardcore: I think I've paraded around this release a bit too much already, but it's hard for me not to sing its praises. The Forgotten is much like The Woman You Saw... in the sense that both are soaked in an atmosphere that makes the album even more gripping. Plenty of hard melodies are abound in this record. |
