Underrated 2018 releases

Some records that have been released this year that deserve more attention. Honourable mentions to Castlebeat and Hot Mulligan, I guess.
1The Summer Kills
Last Night We Became Swans

post-rock / alternative rock / shoegaze

Hammock + Matthew Ryan join forces for an absolutely breathtaking record. It has the usual hammock instrumentation with some more rock-elements to it and Ryan's vocals are perfect layered on top of it. If you liked to more immediate tracks off Everything and Nothing you'll probably enjoy this.
2Johan
Pull Up

indie rock

This album by Dutch indie rockers Johan is not their best album, but definitely a fun collection of melancholic 60s-infused music. Initially nice as background music, the songs grow with repeated listens making it a very rewarding album.
3Heavy Things
Glimpse

pop punk / alternative rock

This record has the instantly-catchy qualities of pop punk combined with a more melancholic indie rock mood. Lyrically, Glimpse speaks to me due to its simplistic miserableness... which also makes it a tad whiny.
4La Rose
Same Hell

shoegaze / post rock

La Rose is a one-man bedroom project and it's some of the most beautiful, atmospheric music I have heard this year. While not being anything new/original, Same Hell thrives off its simplistic beauty.
5Dearist
Sonder

pop punk / alternative rock

Some straight up alternative rock/pop punk. It's nothing too special, but the songs are immediate and catchy enough to keep your attention for the full record.
