Astral Abortis 04.18.17	I hate most people so i avoid most of them. I live with three good friends and my partner is equally as disgruntled about going out and socialising, and we both share similar anxiety issues (though mine is more closely linked to my neurosis and obsessive compulsive tendencies). I'm not a nihilist but I make it clear when I don't want to interact with someone and I don't experience much trouble with it. I'm happy the way I am and don't need to make excuses for why other people can't/won't deal with me.

evilford 04.18.17	I feel ya. I'd usually rather be listening to music than doing anything else. Not huge on social interaction, I don't hate people I'd just rather be doing stuff by myself

Typhoon24 04.18.17	yeah i feel i should redefine "hate" to being unable to relate with on a personal level. like I can be polite and know how to act and stuff, friendly acquaintance shit. as for ephemeral, you'd be surprised about the wife thing, at least with mine. i love her to death but she can't even sit through an album that she likes all the way through. she loves to go out and be social whenever she has the time. so we compromise. lol.

Demon of the Fall 04.18.17	I can understand this, definitely. I get nervous in social situations & often end up drinking just to calm myself down. I do go out & meet people a reasonable amount but most of it is actually with my wife, even though she's much the same I guess we drive each other to do things. Oftentimes it'll just be the two of us though which is cool. Honestly, I'd like to do a little less sometimes but she gets insanely bored if we stay in too much. I like my own space occasionally.

EphemeralEternity 04.18.17	Omniverts>introverts>extroverts btw Extroverts can be some of the most insecure insufferable people withe their drivel and need to talk just for the sake of it often with opinions on areas they're completely ignorant in again I'm only talking extreme extroverts I'd say most of the memorable conversations I've had were with people who were initially a little bit reticent , these people often have a lot of hidden depth and interesting shit to bring to a conversation. Just my thoughts but I guess opposites can also attract so who knows

AsleepInTheBack 04.18.17	nah man being introverted / socially anxious in the sense that you described it is nothing to be concerned about in my opinion, and sticking with a few close friends that you can actually stand is much better than spreading yourself thin which a bunch of people you are somewhat indifferent to. sounds like you've got some generally healthy hobbies and if you're wife drags you out now and then that continues to push you to at least try situations you are uncomfortable with then I think you've got a good balance in life

At least choose not to have an opinion, it's less irritating than blabbering on about something you know nothing about, or talking about inane rubbish like what you bought at the supermarket this week. I don't need to know every minuscule detail about your unremarkable life.
AsleepInTheBack 04.18.17	also yeah I'd add to what some people have said about people you may consider extroverts. Just because individuals appear confident and comfortable chatting with strangers / loose friends about nonsense doesn't mean they feel any less anxious about it than you; from my experience appearing confident and friendly and somewhat fake its a defence mechanism for many (though not all, some are of course legit comfortable with such socialising and damn good at it)

p4p 04.18.17	wow so many losers itt. im an introvert and also a narcissist so my ego is quite high. i learned to fake my emotions and feelings when interacting with people in college. whether you like it or not, socialising is very important for your future. you gotta fake your true self for social values otherwise you will lose on the journey to the middle. just wear a mask, pretend that you care and you'll be fine.

Divaman 04.18.17	Yeah, people kind of suck sometimes. I have a big old reclining chair in the middle of my living room, central to my TV, music player, etc. And when I'm out in the world, doing the things I have to do, running errands, etc., I feel like I spend my whole life just trying to get back to my nice, safe chair.

Dedes 04.18.17	Being extroverted can have its perks however. Interacting with people can be fun so long as you have good tolerance. Otherwise a lot of people will feel like a pestilence to you.
Demon of the Fall 04.18.17	"just wear a mask, pretend that you care and you'll be fine" I cannot do this, it feels like an impossibility to me. I would rather die than spend my life being fake, why be blessed with individuality & then choose not to use it? It's strange, I genuinely feel completely incapable of pretending to be something I'm not, even if I wanted to (which I don't, so that's ok).

MoosechriS 04.18.17	This sounds like me in a nutshell to be honest dude, don't have any major anxiety problems i just can't be bothered with people. My wife is a very social person who also has to drag me kicking and screaming into most social gatherings. My idea of a good day is just chilling out with my wife and kids and getting a bit of time in to listen to music, i don't mind going out and doing things as a family. I just got to a point in my early 20's where i just couldn't smile and put up with other peoples bullshit anymore and thought "why am i doing this?". I spent my time doing stuff and attending occasions that i was usually nagged into going to and then spent my entire time there hating it. In a strange twist of fate i had to stop drinking at 25 and now when people know i don't drink they don't even bother inviting along for things anymore (thankfully). It is also kind of a show of how much some peoples social interactions are purely structured around alchohol.

MoosechriS 04.18.17	Yeah, it's funny being on the outside looking in because most people i work with literally revolve around going to the pub and the bookies every weekend and thats it. Then they look at you like you've got 10 heads when you have actual interests, one of the guys at work couldn't fathom why i would spend a decent amount of money on a rare lp that i wanted and then looked confused when i said "how much money do you spend in the boozer on the weekend?"
butcherboy 04.18.17	Faking it is the wrong way of seeing it.. it can be an interesting observation point.. besides, once you go through puberty, you realize how much of life is precisely faking it in some way or another.. if you split hairs enough, everyone compromises every day..
Dedes 04.18.17	My own friends are nothing like that actually nor are a lot of the people I know, but then again I surround myself more so around people I like and that share similar interests to me.

ScuroFantasma 04.19.17	I'm not super keen on parties or whatever, but some of you guys maybe just need to push your comforts a little and see how it goes. Not everyone who is relaxed and ready to be be really social got that way by avoiding social situations. Not saying you have to do it, or that it's necessarily a bad thing for events like that to not be your thing, but if it is something you feel like you'd have fun at and you avoid going because you're uncomfortable, well, practice makes perfect. Just try to keep in mind that most people don't give a fuck anyway and are just as weird, or work on minimising how much you care about what strangers think of you, that works for me.
