02.27.21 | It'll keep me busy for the next two weeks anyway. |

02.27.21 | 5 seems interesting. 1 is good. I want to hear what you think on the new Sirenia, as I've seen a general disappointment |
Koris
02.27.21 | Hey, what a coincidence! I just bought In Rainbows the other day :] |

02.27.21 | Whoa didn't know you liked 4 Diva, vinyl? |
Divaman
02.27.21 | I gave the new Sirenia a listen last night, and so far, I really liked it.
Your review alerted me to 4, Dewi, and I gave it a listen before I bought it. It wouldn't normally be my thing, but as a native New Yorker, I (sadly) appreciated the accuracy of their vision. (I also like the make sure I listen to a certain percentage of new music by local artists every year.) I bought the mp3 file from bandcamp. |

02.28.21 | Nice list, Diva. I can't imagine you digging 1 |
Divaman
02.28.21 | Oh, but I do Jethro. Although my favorite band in this style is still Nightwish. |
Jethro42
02.28.21 | I'm really surprised, really am. I have yet to discover Nightwish...Let's methul, brother m/ |

02.28.21 | What makes you surprised? |
Divaman
02.28.21 | If you think about it, it makes sense. They check a lot of the boxes for things I enjoy in my music. They have a good vocalist whose voice can be quite pretty. They have progressive rock elements, including a grandiosity of sound that even maybe gets a little bombastic at times. More often than not, they're melodic. About the only elements of their music that might be outside of my usual taste zone are the male "dirty" vocals and the fact that the music sometimes gets heavier than I normally go for. But I don't actually mind the beauty and the beast vocals as long as there IS a beauty to counterbalance the beast, and I don't mind at all if a band gets heavy as long as that's not all they can do. |
Jethro42
02.28.21 | The fact you dig metal. Your musical palette is really diversified. There were a time I was into metal (2 or 3 years max), but now I'm less and less into it, even if I know there are good metal bands out there. |
Divaman
02.28.21 | I actually like them better than certain pure prog rock bands like Wobbler (who I sometimes feel are form over substance), or bands that get very atonal or jazzy. I'd rather have metal mixed in with my prog than jazz. |
Divaman
02.28.21 | Also, I think my ear hears them as more prog than metal, although they certainly incorporate both genres. |
Jethro42
02.28.21 | You dig metal for pretty much the same reasons as me. I don't know if you'd appreciate Opeth's growls. |
Divaman
02.28.21 | No, although I discovered that Alvvays album from SOTD. I wasn't wild about their other album as a whole, but I loved "Plimsoll Punks". That's what put them on my radar. After first listen, I like this album better, though, and "Marry Me, Archie" is what inspired me to pick it up. |
Divaman
02.28.21 | Yeah, so far, I don't get Opeth. I picked up their last LP, and I didn't really love it. I know a lot of people on Sputnik are crazy about them. |
