Favorite Albums of the Year So Far
thinking Beck may wind up topping the list but haven't heard it yet |
1 | | Avey Tare Eucalyptus
Feeling washed over by Avey's indescribably soothing LP; I find a certain inner peace that only Deakin's Sleep Cycle even touches. Although sonically far and away his most amorphous since perhaps as far back as Spirit, They've Gone... it achieves everything it sets out to accomplish. Masterfully stripped-down yet sonically sound; my personal favorite of the year thus far hands down. |
2 | | Gorillaz Humanz
What can I say? I love this band even if their albums are constantly over-scrutinized. Remember when Demon Days got lackluster reviews? I was just as perplexed then as I am now and that is, I suppose, what it means to be a Gorillaz fan. |
3 | | LCD Soundsystem American Dream
Seeing James Murphy do his thing live touring for This Is Happening with probably the coolest crowd i've ever been in at like 3am will go down forever as the best night of my life. Even the weirder songs have grown on me. I totally get some of the confused/negative feedback for the change in direction; but honestly I don't want to hear Sound Of Sound Silver over again i'd prefer they mutate a bit. In a strange way this reminds me at times of David Bowie's "The Next Day" in the strange choices that seem to actually pay off throughout. |
4 | | Slowdive Slowdive
The shoegazers are back and I love it. Someone please call Kevin Shields and remind him the movement he started is even more lucrative now so it doesen't take so damn long for the next MBV record. The more shoegaze the better and this LP reminds me of Just For A Day which will always be in my top ten 90s albums. |
5 | | Daphni Fabriclive 93
Dan Snaith crafting perfect electronica as usual |
6 | | At the Drive-In in•ter a•li•a
The more i spin this the more i hear Noctourniquet influences all over the place which is a great thing. Over the top is just how this band operates and, really, there isn't much music out there like it. |
7 | | Grizzly Bear Painted Ruins
Need to spin this more but already quite impressed. This is a band that really can't let their fans down; too much talent and intricacy in all the right places for it to be anything less than classic Grizz. |
