Vlamrock 2013 Review

great day shitty weather. Oh and, GROWN BELOW FUCKING RULES.
1Full Of Hell

First band I saw, also one if the bands I really wanted to see. I was kinda
disappointed, when they were "playing" it actually was really good. The problem is
2/3 of their show was just pointless noise (it was no drone if that is what it was
supposed to be.. Just horrible noise).
2Oathbreaker

Great band, better than I hoped. great stage presence and Caro sounds monstrously
live (think a more diverse George Clarke (Deafheaven). One of the better
performances. I really wanted to see them and they didn't disappoint.
3Whips/Chains

Only saw last 15 minutes of their show, but they were good. Didn't knew band before
but I'll have to check 'em one day.
4Cliteater

Dutch band, more of a joke band. But they had a amazing stage presence, most
likely the best of the entire day. Their crowd interaction made up for their subpar
music.
5Code Orange Kids

One of the bands I REALLY wanted to see. SADLY THEIR SHOW FUCKING SUCKED.
No stage presence what so ever, they literally just got on stage and the male vocalist
said "hi, we're code orange kids and we're from "city". Suddenly after a couple of
songs (which hardly lasted for 15 minutes) they just stopped WITHOUT SAYING A
FUCKING THING. Most shameful/Biggest disgrace of a show I ever saw. I mean, if
you can hardly put up a show at least interact with your crowd. Those fucks did
neither.
6The Monolith Deathcult

Shit music, but hey at least they interacted with the crowd.
7Xerxes

The next band I saw was Xerxes, I didn't knew them but MAN, they know how to put
up a show. Great stage presence, music, etc.. I'll definitely have to check them out
someday, I was impressed.
8Twitching Tongues

Catchy as fuck hardcore. Almost as good as Oathbreaker, I would have been
impressed if i didn't saw Xerxes performance 5 minutes earlier.
9Birds in Row

Another of those bands I REALLY needed to see. And perhaps the only one that didn't
disappoint me. Great show, great crowd interaction and stage presence, great sound.
Nothing bad to say about these guys, top notch.
10Harm's Way

Standard hardcore, good but nothing out of the ordinary. only thing I noticed is how
FUCKING HUGE that vocalist is. You all thought Tim Lambesis was ripped, oh boy wait
until you see this guy.
11The Scalding

Spectacular stage presence, only their second show so far but it wasn't bad. Possibly
the best drummer I've heard so far, the fastest too. I'm normally not that keen on
death metal but they were alright.
12Grown Below

Let me be short in this; Grown Below delivered the single most, BEST live
performance I have ever witnessed. They stand head and shoulder above any band
I've seen so far. PERFECT venue for their sound (think hieaver sludgy sigor
ross/softer mathcore-less amia venera landscape WITH A KICK-ASS vocalist).
Amazing stage presence and show, had a little chat with the vocalist and drummer
afterwards, really nice guys. I don't think I'll ever see a band that will top this
performance. I nearly cried! I feel bad for never having heard of them before. they
played their entire new album (recording starts tomorrow) and let me tell you that if
they don't fuck up the production it will be an easy candidate for AOTY.
13Circle Takes the Square

Last band I saw, and the band I wanted to see above all else. They just were unlucky
to take the stage exactly after Grown Below. They got totally overshadowed because
of that. Their show was in no means bad, but they couldn't hold a candle to Grown
below.
