| i saw Sunn 0))) last night
and it was weird | 1 | | Leila Bordreuil Headflush
the show started off with Leila Bordreuil doing some interesting noise/drone stuff on her cello. never really understood this genre but I guess it makes sense seeing it live and really loud. at one point I felt the shit in my lower intestines rattling cuz of the low ends (or maybe it was the chopped cheese), so I guess that was cool. overall, it felt like I was stuck inside a Bladerunner transition scene or the first circle of hell | 2 | | High Command Eclipse of the Dual Moons
not gonna lie, I went to the show to see High Command again. last time I saw them was 3 years ago in the basement of a small club in DC, seeing them on a big stage in a huge warehouse loud as hell was amazing. these guys just do not disappoint. cherry on top was watching the unsuspecting wine-sipping brooklyn art hoes getting caught in the mosh | 3 | | Sunn O))) Pyroclasts
had no idea what to expect and was super excited to find out. always thought this band was a meme, like seriously, people actually enjoy listening to this shit? but after hearing it live, I think I get it. it sounds so intense, grating, bone-rattling, and a bit anxiety inducing (the fog and strobe lights didnt help). I soon found my feet glued to the floor as I was caught in a drone-y trance. the slow, low riffs lasted for about an hour and a half, culminating in an outro/finale that saw the band play their fastest riffs yet (I think it was like, at least 5 notes over a few minutes??). felt overcome with relief when their set ended and the tension dissipated. very cool experience, tho I don't think I'd do it again | |

12.19.22 | a sunn gig is therapy. every molecule of your body is heavily massaged. | Prancer

lmao this made me laugh | frozencarl
12.19.22 | Stakis that is exactly how my friend described it leaving the show, couldnt agree more. one of the best sleeps I ever had that night.
Prancer, the fast switchup at the end felt like I was seeing Dragonforce. it were as if someone held vodka up to my nose, snapping me out of a coma | SomeCallMeTim
12.19.22 | we need more post-concert lists/threads like this. Seeing Machine Girl tonight, will make one after
I would love to see Sunn live, sadly Philly and NY are the closest they're getting to NE it seems. | frozencarl
12.20.22 | hell yeah Tim! that sounds cool, Machine Girl looks like a good time live. definitely give us your thoughts on it.
from what I hear, Sunn unfortunately doesn't go on the road often. but maybe they've got something in the works | Eakflanderyof
12.20.22 | Sunn was the same experience for me. I thought they were a boring gimmick and then I saw them live and it was like tectonic plates shifting and it clicked for me | frozencarl
12.21.22 | it still seems gimmicky to me if it isnt live, like you'd really need an amazing sound system to truly appreciate their music since a lot of it comes from the intense vibrations.
funniest thing about the whole thing was the long applause and cheering at the end. dont mean to discredit them at all, it just seemed so surreal and silly at the time | kodama
12.21.22 | If you have to see a genre/band being played live for it to be good it's not good to begin with. | SomeCallMeTim
12.21.22 | @kodama there are a handful of bands I've seen live whether because a friend brought me or they were an opener for the main act or whatever it may be, where I didn't care for their music before but after seeing/ them live my perspective of their music has changed greatly | frozencarl
12.21.22 | yea, exactly what tim said. but also, there seems to be a lot of people that like Sunn on record just anyways. I'm just in the camp that thinks it was cool to experience live but won't be listening to their records on the train home from work or something, ya know? | Eakflanderyof
12.21.22 | I mean, music used to only be played live hundreds of years ago |
