Smith Street's new song

2015-01-12 by Jordan M. EMERITUS | 19 Comments
The Smith Street Band have announced the release of charity single, 'Wipe that Shit-Eating Grin Off Your Punchable Face'.

Taken from the sessions to Throw Me in the River, the song is about the trials and
tribulations of asylum seekers attempting entry into Australia. Featuring Australian PM Tony Abbot's signature smug grin on the cover, 100% of proceeds will be donated to Asylum Seekers Resource Centre until the end of February.

The single is available tomorrow at 9am via Bandcamp for digital download, while the 7" will see release on January 23.

The cover art is the best thing I've ever seen. Just got all their LP's + Laika on record in the mail yesterday, but looks like I've got something extra to pick up

it's like a mix of the Throw Me in the River and No One Gets Lost (edit: wait that's not true) and it's beautiful aye

considering it was written at the same time as and recorded along with Throw Me in the River it obviously shares a lot with that album; the production and mixing is exactly the same and Fitzy's bass comes through really strong. the dramatic parts and that long build-up intro are definitely characteristic of Throw.

i can actually agree that it would fit on South East Facing Wall because of its rawness, but there's like no guitar melodies except for the intro arpeggios. also the lack of folk punk qualities best fits it for Throw Me in the River. the part where the song picks up instantly reminds me of "Get High See Mice", though.

Amateurs, you're supposed to copy and paste and then amend it if you are having trouble.

The coding sometimes screws up.
