This is terrible. I'm all for improvisation and freeform but there's no tribal here, no krautrock, no black metal, and pretty much nothing else that it's tagged as. It's just some dude plucking randomly with really empty production while kids scream in the background.

at least you gave it a listen, i appreciate the honesty a lot

Gotta echo the sentiments of breaking, sounded really random and the production was dull/echoey. Not my thing at all though tbh so I'm probably not the best judge.

yeah, i produced it and did the keys and kind of planned each song a bit beforehand. first time doing an album with this lineup of musicians too. each song was done in one take, so the rawness and random nature is intentional. my intent was to make the production sound like a crackling vinyl with channels shifting about, like old recordings sometimes used to. i can totally understand how somebody would not like that at all.

glad u jammed scuro, thanks for the feedback

Ah well if ^ that's the case maybe I'm being s bit unfair expecting it to sound rehearsed. I'll give it another go tomorrow with that in mind.

cool man! yea all the albums in this 'series' of sorts are straight up improv, this definitely being the loosest one of the bunch

Isn't the point of improv to still play together? Seemed like the guitarist refused to ever start actually doing anything on that first track. He was like "Oh no, the drummer is catching on. Let's hit a note / chord that doesn't fit in, stop for a few seconds, then do something else unrelated..."

Personally, though, I thought the production was fine. I'll listen to more tracks to see if I have the wrong impression.

Its a total experiment. I told him to play against the beat, as if trying to overpower it. With both of your critiques, I can definitely see what you guys mean

Only listened to a couple tracks but it sounds like there's not really any point where it all meshed into anything coherent imo.

"envelopment" and "tumeric extract" are particularly coherent tho

You must be hearing something totally different.

yes, the songs are not coherent at all on their own; they aren't supposed to adhere to any structure. the instruments are played in contrast with one another. i wanted to see what would unconsciously arise in the music from doing this

with experimentation - in this case, improv - there is an inevitably of failure (I don't mean "failure" in a strictly negative sense... more of a scientific one?). pulling off improv music is a skill all its own. haven't heard this yet but don't get discouraged (not that you were, really).

I'm in no way discouraged. I made this the way I did because I like it. If other people like it, that's wonderful. If not, that's cool asf too

Right on man. That comment wasn't meant for discouragement. If you like doing what you do music wise, then keep going. This just isn't my cup of tea, like what a couple of people have expressed in the comments.

this was the third time tbh

i wanted to get new people for this specifically to make it as spontaneous as possible. we talked online but little was rehearsed apart from brief verbal direction before we played. the other albums in this "trilogy" are with people ive played with for years, and the goal was to make this a quiet, schizophrenic finale (of sorts) to the whole thing

Gave the whole album another spin and I feel more or less the same, much too scattered/random and out of time for my liking and not particularly good. It's hard to hate it knowing the concept and also the fact that's it's so slapped together that it doesn't really 'fail' to do anything, only thing that changed with this listen was my aversion for the production, which is decent enough I guess.
