maybe...just maybe...it's because they both make rap music. just guessing though.

^ you knew what he meant. Even within the same genre, Kanye West and Aesop Rock are like night and day. It's absolutely asinine trying to compare them.

"Drank kool aid from a tube of acrylic
And i grew up in a linseed oil over linen
Joy to the poison voice in the resin
Capture a map of the gesture
Back up add a little accurate fat to the figure
Re do that move that inwards
Zinc white lightning shoots from his fingers
Studios drone with allusions of tinctures"

holy shit stfu

love it, my favorite kind of lyricism. him and jon mess should make a book on lyrics that make no fuking sense but feel good to say

Keyblade

he can't say anything like a normal person, everything has to be hyper-intellectualized just because he can. a cup is a cyllindrical fluid dispenser, a birthday is a genesis of life epoch or some shit. absolutely despise rappers like him

TheFantasticDangler

i mean thats aesop rock for you, you can complain that it doesnt make sense but the guy knows what hes doing

its his style and hes going to stick to it, he has tons of tracks with straightforward lyrics dude you just dont listen enough

see hail mary mallon, tracks like daylight or no regrets

i guess daylight isnt the greatest example but its has epic bars

ill try to listen to those when i get home. tbf he's not the only one guilty of this, but he's like the poster boy of this kind of backpacker rap. every once in a while i hear a dude like him playing at the gym and it's so annoying

i mean fair enough, your complaint is valid but it doesnt bother me or make the guy not worth listening to imo

Calc

i'm pretty sure he words things that way so he can flow with them better. it's not like he doesn't ever say birthday or cup

Keyblade

that's not really much better but yeah he comes across a teenager who just discovered rap who wants to sound really really cool and smart

yea im prolly being harsh but idk it just rubs me the wrong way. i feel like he's cut out of the same cloth as the dudes on here who seek out "intelligent hip hop"...just like no self awareness. almost like "i wanna do that hippity hop stuff but like way more intelligently than those other unsophisticated rapsters"

it's really my indifference, I'm sure you've picked up on it. cultivating an internet personality is just kinda sad imo. Key have you listened to clipping? that guy I think is technically just as proficient as aes but he doesn't do this "intelligent" thing you're hearing here.

Aesop is one of my favorite rappers of all time but I get where you're coming from key. It's different, but it's always annoyed me how Immortal Technique tries to make himself sound intelligent when it kinda just makes him sound like a tool.

You're creating this in your head, dude. He's never said or done anything that would make anyone think that about him, you're literally just projecting that onto him because you don't like his style of rhyming.

TomAkaVeto

And I'm not grilling you, by the way. I see that you admitted that you were being harsh. I'm just pointing out how silly you're being for thinking that of him.

no I get that that's probably not what he's going for, for sure. it's just the impression I get from him. which is why ill look into him more to make sure im not unfairly judging him

that's what poetry is... saying something and meaning something else. how boring would it be if every rapper just called everything what it is, instead of coming up with new words for it to show you a new perspective? some might call Aes wordy or cartoony or whatever, and i get that, but he's got his own style and his lyrics do make sense. just cuz you don't see it right away doesn't mean they don't make sense.
